Overview

Recommended Pool Ideal for Kids Walk to Village

Villas Jelsa, on the island of Hvar, are in a perfect location for enjoying life in authentic stone cottages surrounded by lavender, figs and olives. They are situated in one of the oldest parts of the island, near the village of Pitve with its narrow cobbled streets, pretty stone squares and panoramic hilltop views.

There are three stone cottages which are exclusively let out to larger groups of friends or family wishing to holiday together yet regain a little independence from each other. They share beautiful gardens, a stunning private pool and a lovely outdoor wood burning fire which can be used for cooking under the stars or just simply keeping warm with a glass of local wine in hand.

The cottages are very traditional in style with a rustic and homely feel throughout both inside and out. The first villa, with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a living room, is traditionally furnished with antique furnishings added to contemporary touches. The one bedroom cottage, with a sofa-bed in the living room, is newly renovated with a more modern interior and lovely elevated views towards Jelsa to the north. The third cottage, with two bedrooms and a living-kitchen-diner, has also been furnished and decorated in a contemporary style.

The relaxed atmosphere continues outside with lazy hammocks swinging in the trees and sun-loungers dotted around the inviting swimming pool. Those with more energy to burn will enjoy the large basketball court with enough space for a game of football or volleyball as well, or make use of the two bicycles available for guests. The large aromatic gardens are surrounded by lavender, figs and olives and could be the perfect spot to sample some of the wines produced by the owner.

The town of Jelsa is three kilometres away and here you can enjoy fresh fish and local wine in a decent choice of tavernas and restaurants. It is a great base for exploring this part of the island. You can walk or cycle through the dense pine forests, discover pretty beaches and coves or take boat excursions a little further afield. There are numerous walking tours that start from Jelsa and various trekking paths across the island.

This really is a great place for discovering the island yet enjoying the peace of the countryside. Hvar has gained a reputation as one of the trendiest spots in Croatia and may now be a celebrity hot-spot but in the rustic and relaxed atmosphere of Villas Jelsa, with the sweet smell of lavender surrounding you, you will feel a world away.

The Dalmatian island of Hvar has recently gained a reputation as one of Croatia’s trendiest destinations with Hvar Town becoming a celebrity hot-spot. Yet the interior of the island remains relatively unvisited despite its beautiful landscapes. Villas Jelsa are located near Pitve, a typical Dalmatian village with narrow paved streets, wooden shutters and pretty stone squares. Walk up to the nineteeth century St Jacob’s Church for panoramic views of the beautiful countryside.

You are surrounded by lavender fields, vineyards, olive and fig trees yet cultural landmarks are never far away and there is so much to be explored.

The island of Hvar is yours to discover, whether it is wine-tasting in local vineyards, kayaking at sun-set along the coast, cycling across the countryside or exploring the villages and towns on the island. Stari-Grad, one of the main ports for arrivals from Split, was founded by the Greeks in 400 BC and is the oldest settlement on the island. Also, be sure to visit Humac, a sixteeth century village without electricity set upon a hilltop on the remote and beautiful south coast.
