Why visit Barbados?

Barbados has a rhythm all its own – warm sea breezes, colourful villages and a welcoming island spirit that makes visitors feel at home almost instantly. Life here revolves around the ocean. Days begin with a swim in clear Caribbean waters, drift into long seaside lunches and often end with sunset cocktails as the sky glows pink over the horizon.

The island’s culture is rich and lively. Bridgetown, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, blends colonial architecture with bustling markets and boutiques, while Holetown on the glamorous Platinum Coast is known for elegant beach clubs, oceanfront restaurants and some of Barbados’ most luxurious villas. Across the island, lively beach bars, cricket matches and colourful festivals reveal the joyful energy that Barbados is famous for.

Food is another highlight. Bajan cuisine celebrates bold Caribbean flavours – freshly grilled seafood, fragrant spices and tropical ingredients appear on menus across the island. The national dish, flying fish with cou-cou, is a must-try, while rum lovers will enjoy discovering the island’s long distilling heritage.

Adventure is never far away either. Catamaran cruises glide along the west coast, snorkellers explore reefs filled with colourful fish and sea turtles, and surfers head east to catch Atlantic swells at Bathsheba. Yet relaxation remains the island’s greatest luxury – whether that’s lounging on soft white sand or unwinding beside your private villa pool.

What Oliver Loves

Barbados offers an incredible mix of calm Caribbean beaches and dramatic Atlantic coastlines – meaning one day can be spent swimming in tranquil waters and the next watching powerful waves crash against rugged cliffs.

Barbados: Getting there and around

By plane

Barbados is one of the easiest Caribbean islands to reach from the UK. Direct flights from London Heathrow, Manchester and Edinburgh arrive at Grantley Adams International Airport, with flight times of around 8 hours 30 minutes.

By taxi

Taxis are widely available across the island, and drivers often double as knowledgeable local guides. Fares are fixed rather than metered, so it’s best to confirm the price before setting off. Airport transfers can also be arranged through our Concierge Service.

By car

Hiring a car offers the most flexibility for exploring Barbados at your own pace. Roads are generally easy to navigate, and a temporary local driving permit can be arranged when collecting your rental vehicle.

By bus

Local buses are an affordable way to travel between towns and beaches. Fares are inexpensive and routes connect many of the island’s most popular areas.
