Meanwhile, nearby Jolly Harbour is home to a lively boardwalk, a wide variety of excellent bars and restaurants and an eighteen-hole golf course. For those who wish to travel a little further afield, the breathtaking landscapes of this Caribbean paradise lie waiting to be discovered.
Antigua and Barbuda is a nation encompassing two sister islands and several smaller islets in the heart of the Caribbean Sea. Local Antiguans are understandably proud of the island’s 365 beaches, one for each day of the year. Only a five-minute drive away from Villa Papillon, guests will be delighted to find the silky white sands of two idyllic beaches, Ffryes and Darkwood. Surrounded by dense green hilltops, Ffryes Beach is a popular spot with tourists and locals alike. Here, you can spend the day snorkelling in the crystalline waters before indulging in a delicious dinner at one of the many restaurants on Jolly Harbour Marina.
Slightly further afield, Nelson’s Dockyard National Park is one of five national parks in Antigua. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, this eighteenth-century British naval dockyard is an area of great historical significance on the island, as well as a popular venue for maritime events and activities. For those who wish to experience the magic for themselves, plenty of sailing excursions and water-based activities are available.
There are plenty of fantastic trekking trails around the island, taking in sandy beaches, rainforests and dreamlike coastal views. For a challenging hike, wear your shoes and visit Mount Obama, the highest peak in Antigua. From the summit, enjoy the panoramic views before descending to Cades Bay for a delightfully refreshing dip in the ocean.
Don’t forget to visit Shirley Heights, a restored military lookout known for its bewitching views and community feel. With a popular street party happening every Sunday evening, visitors are welcome to enjoy the music of live Caribbean steel drum bands, taste some of the local food and rum punch and take in the breathtaking sights as the sun begins to go down on the beautiful island of Antigua.

Later, drive to St. John’s, where older children will enjoy the vibrancy of the island’s capital. Here, families can visit local restaurants to sample some of the island’s delicacies.
If you are in the mood for an exciting island adventure, drive along the coast before turning inland towards Fig Tree Drive, where you will pass open fields of bananas and other colourful fruits. Within twenty-five minutes, you will reach the Antigua Rainforest Canopy Park, where a day of thrilling activities awaits! With experienced instructors to guide you at every point along the way, you will cross suspension bridges and rope obstacles, ziplining above the tree tops and crisscrossing a stunning gorge. Don’t forget to take a break in the magical twin tree houses tucked away in the dense rainforest. This is an exhilarating day out that varies in intensity, with options to suit all age groups.
Later on, return to Villa Papillon in time for a sunset dip in the swimming pool before enjoying a family barbecue on the terrace. Once the stars have appeared, everyone will be sure to sleep soundly after another day of fun and adventure!
