Overview of Little Oak Hall

What Oliver loves…

  • The indoor spa includes a sauna and Jacuzzi, so make sure you pack your swimming costume and get ready to relax - there's even a heated swimming pool outside!
  • The perfect venue for a big celebration - Little Oak Hall sleeps as many as 40 people, and accommodates up to 60
  • It's situated in the middle of a National Park, so great for rugged, outdoorsy types who don't mind getting a bit muddy. The venue itself can even arrange a huge selection of activities for guests!

What you should know…

  • It's 30 minutes walk to the nearest pub, and there's not much in the way of local nightlife anywhere nearby
  • Being in the middle of a National Park, there are restrictions on excessive noise after a certain time and the use of fireworks
  • Room furniture is quite basic, so don't expect sheer luxury - but it's a fantastic venue for that long-awaited family reunion

Little Oak Hall isn't just a large country house - it's anything you want it to be. It’s a prime spot for a party. It’s a conference or seminar centre. It’s perfect for family events and wedding celebrations. It’s a place to get together, or be apart. It’s ideal for yoga, dance or celebrations. Mostly, it’s a wonderful place to relax and have fun with up to seventy of your nearest and dearest in a glorious slice of rural England.

The drawing room is the perfect place to curl up with a book on squishy sofas, to chat and play and laugh and enjoy the simple art of relaxation. There is a large dining room that seats seventy-five and a fully equipped commercial kitchen to provide your meals. You'll also love the bar and lounge for pre-dinner drinks and there's acres of space with tables and chairs on the garden terrace. Little Oak Hall can be self catered or fully catered - your call!

Enjoy some exercise or head off alone or in happy groups over the English lawns to the fields and romantic bridleways of the Exmoor Hills. Back at base, a wealth of facilities await you in the shape of the heated outside pool, garden games, spa with Jacuzzi, two saunas and steam room, licensed bar and wifi.

Please note that the maximum numbers allowed for parties and functions are 100 guests. the maximum occupancy for sleeping is 60 guests.

The property rates are based on 40 guests sharing. Up to 60 guests can stay at Little Oak Hall please see the terms and conditions for more details and the additional costs.

Interior & Grounds

Little Oak Hall is suffused with history. In 1198 the estate was home to a community of Cistercian monks, part of Cleeve Abbey. Since the departure of the monks, the site of Little Oak Hall has seen a variety of uses from a feudal farm to a residential school for girls.

An even wider variety of residents have passed through the grounds, including a magistrate who possibly used the property as a courtroom, to war time evacuees and an eccentric German Count. It was the latter who was responsible for many of the beautiful garden features which include the Italian garden and the various water features that can be found within the grounds.

Through the centuries, events and people have shaped the story – and the appearance – of Little Oak Hall, giving it a unique warmth and soul that is immediately felt as you enter this beautiful building.

  • Fantastic!

    Posted by J.M.O on 20/05/2017

Thank you very much for a fantastic stay at Little Oak Hall. It was a very special experience and everybody loved the place. We have arranged company seminars in many places and several of my employees told me that your house was the best.

Thank you so much for letting us stay at your house. We had a terrific weekend in the most beautiful place. We all loved Little Oak Hall and the surroundings very much. Your live-in staff took very good care of us, and so did Peter Mundy Catering and his team.

  • Amazing stay!

Owner Profile

Property Owner
Peter

How long have you owned the property?
7 years.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
I found the tranquillity, the huge spaces, the wonderful gardens and the rural Somerset views so wonderful after city life. These along with all the amazing facilities, heated swimming pool, spa, steam room, saunas and the huge party spaces, accommodation for up to 80 of my closest friends seemed to make it a wonderful house to hold celebrations and parties.

Are there any interesting stories in its history?
At beginning of the 1900s the house was owned by a German Count who was a great local benefactor. He hosted garden parties and even baby shows before being forced to leave England at the start of the First World War. Recently we had a visit from the nephew of another former owner who remembers the house when he was a teenager in the 1930s with 20 servants and rooms stuffed with antique furniture. His uncle inherited a million acre estate in Australia and moved there.

Have you ever had any famous guests staying?
Not that we speak of, we try to be discrete and protect guest's privacy.

What’s the strangest or most difficult guest request you’ve ever received?
Due to the Icelandic volcano ash cloud preventing Trans Atlantic flights a Guru booked by an holistic group to channel spirits for them, failed to arrive at their event. With a few cables and a rather slow broadband connection we were finally able to rig a large screen and a projector and a Skype connection to the Guru in California. He was then able to take requests for channelling the spirits to the guests in the group. I think this is a first, channelling spirits over Skype! However many may think that that is what Skype does anyway...

For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area they should...
Really do?
There are lots of interesting things to do. What we should say is what you should not do. They should not look for the local oak tree where local felons were hung. They should not set off fireworks which could burn the local fields of dry thatching straw and make the people of south Wales think that the French have invaded England.

Really see?
Two local things not to miss: the Bakelite museum in Williton- a world class museum for Bakelight enthusiasts- and the West Somerset Steam railway.

Lastly, what insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
Book early as we fill up quickly.
