Lakeside Barn, sleeping 8 over 4 luxury suites, exudes five star luxury and overlooks the serene waters of lake Ullswater in the English Lake District National Park, arguably boasting some of the most enviable views in the Lake District National Park.
Lakeside Barn is a truly restorative rural retreat that sits harmoniously within the natural landscape. The Lake District was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site on Sunday 9 July 2017. It now joins other wonders of the world like the Taj Mahal, The Great Wall of China and Machu Picchu with the status. This quintessential 17th century converted barn, has seductively leapt into the 21st century with true flair and sophistication, providing outstanding quality and presidential luxury. Set within 26 acres of private grounds with ½ mile of lake shoreline enjoying uninterrupted panoramic lake views across Ullswater to the Lakeland Fells beyond.
Taking advantage of its original design as a Bank Barn, Lakeside Barn fits comfortably into the landscape and its split level layout exploits both its secluded position and walls of glass almost bring the outside in! Whether you access Lakeside Barn by road, water or air the scenery is stunning whatever the season. With the majestic landscape as the backdrop, relax on the patios, feast on the views, and enjoy the great outdoors.
Back inside, Lakeside Barn offers a truly magnificent and memorable setting whatever the occasion. The interior design is luxurious and inspiring, incorporating the latest state of the art technology, so whether you are celebrating a happy event, searching for the perfect setting for an intimate wedding or just spending time with your favourite people, this is a sophisticated and luxurious property that is designed to make you want to return time and time again!
Lakeside Barn has been furnished to the very highest of standards and sure to please even the most discerning of guests. Underfoot you will be walking on the finest Brintonscarpets. Brintons have been at the forefront of the global woven carpet industry for more than 230 years and was one of the first companies in Queen Elizabeth II’s reign to be awarded the Royal Warrant. Read their blog on us here. All our beds are hand made by And So To Bed, a specialist in fine antique-style beds, and our mattresses are Vi-Spring Elite. Having pioneered the use of pocketed springs in 1909, Vi-Spring believe that no mattress should compromise when it comes to comfort. That is why every Elite is individually made to order, using the finest quality British materials and traditional craftsmanship to create a soft and supportive mattress. Each mattress boasts over 1200 hand nested calico pocket springs which adjust and respond to the movement of the sleeper, providing independent support and minimising roll-together. Exclusive natural fillings, including Platinum Certified British fleece wool and cotton, provide sumptuous comfort and temperature regulation.
Both Lakeside Barn and Lakeside House have won numerous prestigious awards including a Visit England 5 Star Gold Award, Winner of the Condé Nast JohansensAward for Excellence, a Visit England ROSE Award for Service Excellence [an award that can only be won once] and won the 2016 Cumbria Tourism Awards.

Location
About the surrounding area of Lakeside BarnSet within a private 27 acre estate, Lakeside Barn is nestled at the foot of Hallin Fell. Lakeside Barn holds an excellent position on popular Ullswater, the second largest lake within the Lake District. It was the yellow spring flowers on the banks of Ullwater that inspired Wordworth's famous poem "Daffodils".
Lakeside Barn is situated in the hamlet of Howtown, there is a walkers bar within walking distance at the Howtown Hotel. While guests will feel a million miles from any hustle and bustle, amenities can be found in the village of Pooley Bridge, just a 10-minute car journey away, while the town of Penrith, with a wider selection of amenities, is less than 30-minutes from the house. Keen walkers could walk to Pooley Bridge, however, it does take over an hour and is along a road that follows the lake edge and so taking the car may be preferable! Nestled on the side of Hallin Fell, the home makes the perfect base for keen walkers, enjoy jaw-dropping views from the top of Hallin Fell which make the climb more than worthwhile.
For those wanting to further explore the Lake District, notable Windermere and Ambleside are both just an hour away, making this an excellent choice for those wanting to fully explore this beautiful region.

About Lake District
The scenic splendour of the Lake District makes it a must-visit for fans of the great outdoors. Ullswater Valley is stunning, sheltering a beautiful lake hidden amongst towering fells – the surrounding area is relatively undeveloped compared with other parts of the Lake District, giving it a remote and peaceful feel. Take the Ullswater Steamer Ferry for a unique perspective of the valley.
While you’re enjoying one of our fantastic Lake District cottages you may well want to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we’ve put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!
