Tamar Castle holds a tranquil position on the Cornish bank of the River Tamar, just fifteen minutes away from the town of Saltash, often regarded as the “Gateway to Cornwall”. The Castle makes a completely unique setting for a holiday, special celebration or wedding and the wonderful memories will certainly last a lifetime.
Dating back to 1698, Tamar Castle boasts infinite charm and character while still possessing all the modern amenities you could possibly need for a contented and relaxed stay. The living accommodation is ideal for socialising and comprises of the elegant drawing room complete with roaring open fire, a formal dining room with seating for twenty-two, a sunny morning room and a fully-equipped family kitchen. The Castle can comfortably sleep up to twenty-two guests across its eleven beautifully-appointed bedrooms, nine of which boast en-suite facilities. On the ground floor is the first of the bedrooms, specially designed with those who struggle with mobility in mind. Upstairs, on the first floor, are a further eight sumptuous, en-suite bedrooms, a number of which can be set up with twin beds on request. The final two bedrooms are situated in the castellated turrets and share a family bathroom.
The gardens are as equally impressive, with fifty-five acres of woodland grounds to explore, there are plenty of beautiful walks to enjoy. During the Summer months, the solar-heated swimming pool is the place to be and provides hours of fun for the whole family! There are multiple terraces complete with dining facilities, ideal for al fresco dining or simply enjoying a peaceful drink in the magnificent surroundings.

- Children should be supervised by a responsible adult at all times when in or in the vicinity of the swimming pool and when exploring the large grounds due to the access to the River Tamar
- While nine of the bedrooms feature en-suite facilities, two share the use of a family bathroom

* The Warren Suite has been designed specifically for disabled use. The en-suite wet room features a height adjustable shower and shower seat. There are call alarms fitted in the bedroom and shower room. All doors and openings on the ground floor are more than 3 feet wide allowing easy wheelchair access.

About the surrounding area of Tamar CastleTamar Castle is situated just a 15-minute car journey from the town of Saltash, where a wide variety of helpful amenities, including shops and restaurants, can be found. Saltash is often known as the “Gateway to Cornwall” and therefore Tamar Castle is well located for those wanting to explore both Devon and Cornwall.
There is plenty to do, see and explore in Devon and Cornwall within easy reaching distance of the Castle. In Devon, the popular port city of Plymouth is just 20-minutes away while the rugged Dartmoor National Park is 30-minutes away. A number of excellent Cornish beaches including Whitsand Bay, Downderry and Tregantle Beaches are all less than half an hour away. The Cornish seaside town of Looe and the picturesque fishing village of Polperro are both less than 40-minutes away and well worth a visit. The Eden Project, home to the iconic botanical gardens, is less than 45-minutes drive away.

Everything works at Tamar Castle and the brilliant team at the Castle are waiting for you. They work with a fantastic selection of local caterers and will make your dreams come true. You might choose to marry by the river in their Victorian bathing hut, under the stunning wisteria-clad pavilion, at the Castle loggia with captivating views, in the garden or in a marquee. Your options are endless, the day is yours and magic is promised. You can arrive by helicopter or boat, play croquet or giant Jenga, toast marshmallows over the fire pit, dance to a live band, the list goes on. Tamar Castle is a luxurious, heavenly venue for happy couples wanting to celebrate their love.

Wedding Packages
Day before and after events are permitted with an extra cost that applies. Full coordination is included both during wedding planning and on the day. Cutlery, crockery, glassware and table linen for one celebration is also included. Depending on the package the venue can also include a marquee and additional refrigeration.

You have to stay here..
We had a fabulous stay at Tamar Castle. The weather was perfect for daily swims and walks around the extensive, beautiful grounds. We felt we had total freedom, even our own key to the front door. The team were amazing, looking after us from a distance making sure we wanted for nothing. Having breakfast every morning and looking across uninterrupted views of countryside was breath-taking, it was another lifestyle, in another world, perfectly real. The catered final evening is highly recommended for that extra touch of indulgence. Staying at Tamar Castle is a must for everyone. Do it, do it, do it, you know you want to.

A wonderful birthday weekend!
We stayed at Tamar Castle for the weekend to celebrate my Husband’s ‘big’ birthday. We invited family and close friends to stay with us. Tamar Castle surpassed our expectations in every way. The rooms are beautiful, they arranged wonderful food and the staff went beyond the call of duty to ensure we had such a special time. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Exceeded expectations
We planned a week long family reunion for 22 at Tamar Castle, and it was a spectacular event with memories to last a lifetime. Despite rain throughout our stay, the venue was absolutely perfect. Every guest was able to relax and enjoy every minute of their stay. All the staff were gracious and kind with all our requests. We can't wait to repeat this vacation at this same venue. All the outside companies that were recommended were phenomenal and exceeded our expectations.

It was perfect
We are a large family of 21 and spent the most glorious week at Tamar Castle. The first place in 16 years when everyone was entirely delighted with their accommodation! Beautiful grounds. Luxurious bedrooms. Massive kitchen and dining room and friendly and welcoming staff and owners. It was perfect. We loved it. We even had a murder mystery in the drawing room! Would go back at the drop of a hat!

Fantastic location, and excellent service from the team, both prior to and on arrival. We hired Tamar Castle for a Christmas family gathering. Our second time. We were not disappointed. The estate and surrounding walks provides for excellent walking, and the Castle a very welcome return. I am looking forward to more opportunities to visit in the future.
