Overview
Villa Zeki has the most perfect rural location, peacefully positioned in the village of Islamlar at the foothills of the Taurus Mountain range. This comfortable and relaxed two-bedroom property sleeps up to four guests. Larger parties can combine with its sister villa, Villa Zeynep, next door. Islamlar is a small, dispersed village and agriculture is deeply rooted in the heart of this community. Perched slightly inland, it is still only fifteen minutes from the upmarket waterside town of Kalkan yet the ambience and atmosphere couldn’t be more contrasting. Kalkan offers elegant alfresco dining opportunities in abundance, both waterside and on roof terraces, there are also a myriad of artisan boutique shops, a pretty public beach and selection of chichi beach clubs. Villa Zeki is the perfect compromise for a family seeking time to chill by the pool, but with a host of opportunities for exploration only a short drive away.
Modern architecture combines with warm and delicate tones to create a reassuringly homey vibe. The property is built over two floors with the downstairs open plan living space being the focal hub and place to gather. A contemporary and understated theme runs through the villa, with the light and airy large living space designed to bring the outside in. Floor to ceiling glass windows open onto the pristine courtyard swimming pool and garden, featuring a pleasant alfresco dining and seating area together with a built in barbecue where you can absolutely make the most of the warm evenings. The outside space is enveloped by a pleasant stone wall so the children can’t stray far while you kick back with a good book.
The downstairs master bedroom is extremely spacious and even has a free standing Jacuzzi bath looking out across the gardens. Large glass doors open onto the garden and swimming pool, well suited to those who enjoy an early morning dip.
Upstairs, there is no bedroom envy as the second master bedroom is equally well- proportioned and complete with en-suite bathroom. This bedroom opens onto a gorgeous furnished balcony with stunning views of the rolling countryside and swimming pool below.
Villa Zeki is the perfect choice for a family who enjoys a more independent style of holiday. Encircled by towering trees, orchards of pomegranates and lush greenery- enjoy the simple pleasures of a life and land that time forgot.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa ZekiWith the vast horseshoe bay of Kalkan behind, a single inauspicious road turns in land. Passing through the bountiful valley plains, the fields are alive and bursting with all manner of voluptuous fruit and vegetables ready to be picked. Simple stone dwellings are eye catching as vines crawl luxuriously from every nook and cranny. The road soon begins to climb, spiralling between pine trees and dense foliage. It is not long before the air begins to cool and the flow of spring water running off the mountain’s beckons. The air is thick with the heavy, fragrant, scent of pine and the gentle murmur from insects.
The village of Islamlar is a serene paradise that remains very much undisturbed by tourism. You may hear the growls of wild boar which roam the land, although you will probably rarely see them before night fall. The narrow criss-cross road is just as busy with all sorts of four legged friends as it is motor vehicles. Expect to be greeted by a trip of goats who insist on having the right of way, in contrast to some smaller and unwieldy tortoises who sometimes lose their way.
Nowadays, Islamlar is largely inhabited by local agriculturalists and interspersed with a sprinkling of holiday homes. The village also attracts some visitors from the nearby harbour towns of Kas and Kalkan who are keen to experience the local cuisine and slow pace of life. There are several humble restaurants serving the renowned freshwater trout, bred in this region along with other local delicacies and the brightest daily selection of meze. Guest diners visit as much for the awe-inspiring scenery as they do the culinary delights. The sensational views across lush and tumbling terrain towards the golden sands of Patara really set this region apart.
The village is rather sleepy, in the winter, when the main hive of activity is the tea garden in the heart of the village where local men can be spotted playing back gammon while slurping bottomless cups of cay. There is a flour mill in the centre that was in use until recently turning grain into flour. The village has several simple restaurants scattered around, most selling Turkish Breakfasts, or suppers of trout, kofte with tasty rocket salads and fried local cheese.
Islamlar is beautifully situated for exploring the many attractions on the Lycian Coast. Take a short saunter back to Kalkan and enjoy an afternoon pootling on a paddle board from cove to cove. There are many Lycian sites within a short drive. Maybe head up the road to the ancient Lycian site of Tlos, followed by an afternoon in the surf at Patara Beach. Slightly further afield, but well worth the effort, is the sunken city of Kekova. Explore the coastline by gulet or kayak and sail over the silhouettes of buildings from a foregone era.

Islamlar
Islamlar sits 8 km above Kalkan. Once the place Kalkan folk went to cool off at one of the trout farms built to make use of the mountain’s springs. Today Islamlar houses many a villa, enjoyed by Istanbul Turks who prefer a holiday in slightly cooler and cleaner air. Here the locals grow grapes and pomegranates, but you’ll mainly see the men sat gossiping next to the local teahouse. The trout farms remain a place to come for a wonderful fresh meal, or a breakfast consisting of fresh local fare. The rocket will be the freshest & most tasty you’ve ever had; and the fresh chips cooked in olive oil take some beating.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesWithin striking distance of a hive of activities, Villa Zeki is the perfect choice for a family escape. The unique setting and ambience mean days can easily be spent making the most of the large swimming pool and spacious gardens, interspersed with jaunts to explore the wider region and all it has to offer.
Outside of the peak summer months, the Taurus range is superb mountain biking territory. The gloriously rugged terrain provides an exhilarating day’s activity punctuated by quieter pathways with the most astounding views across the coast.
Travelling with smaller children? There is a plethora of sheltered beaches that are gently shelving and ideal for helping smaller people gain their confidence in the water. Patara beach is a favourite with many of our Guests as it is the breeding ground for the loggerhead turtles. At various points across the summer, you can witness the hatchlings making their first journey to the sea.
There is a watersports centre in Kalkan for adrenalin addicts and a dive centre offering try dives for first timers and those seeking PADI qualifications. Feedback from our clients suggests the most sought after holiday experience in this region is a daily gulet charter. A gulet is a traditional wooden sailing boat, although many don’t have active sails. The boats are skippered and can be booked as a sole charter or as individual places. The day is spent leisurely cruising from cove to cave with plenty of stops for snorkelling, swimming and some boats even have an array of non-motorised water sports. A freshly cooked lunch featuring the catch of the day and a colourful display of meze is served on board.
The Saklikent Gorge is another favourite and it is certainly an opportunity to have some respite from the intense summer heat. The geography is spectacular and the gorge is also recognised for being the second longest in Europe. Wade through the numbingly cold waters and feel refreshed, then head back to the coast and warm up at one of the many sun drenched beaches.
