Bom Dia Villa is a delightful, traditional cottage that has been lovingly renovated into a charming holiday home. It nestles amongst the banana trees and vines of the Quinta Vista Alegre estate in Funchal, Madeira, providing you with a tranquil escape close to the city.

The character and atmosphere has been retained throughout the villa. Stone walls, chestnut-tree beams and select pieces of furniture crafted with wood from the estate complement Bom Dia Villa’s naturally beautiful outside space. This villa really is an oasis of calm and is one that offers you the perfect opportunity to simply relax and get away from it all.

The accommodation at Bom Dia Villa is laid out over ground-floor level. Open the front door into a characterful and spacious living room with feature stone wall. The ceiling beams are another lovely original feature and complement the coffee table that’s also been crafted out of wood from the estate. There’s a comfortable sofa and two armchairs giving you the chance to find the perfect spot to relax and watch the television in the evenings. The kitchen/dining room is well-equipped, with amenities such as an oven, dishwasher, fridge and kettle. There’s also a classic wood dining table for quick and easy serving of meals.

There’s one bedroom at Bom Dia Villa and it features a large double bed, a chest of drawers and an ensuite bathroom.

For your convenience is a separate, shared laundry room with ironing board, iron, washing machine and dryer. You also have use of the picturesque outside space with a large swimming pool that is shared with the owner and their family. The front patio features a shared seating area also, which is shaded by vines and perfect for enjoying drinks and meals. Soak up the almost rural-feel of the plot as you stroll around the garden with its abundance of banana trees and range of colourful flowers and plants.

Bom Dia Villa is part of selection of refurbished historical Quinta Barns. This holiday home, along with Funcho Cottage and Fennel Cottage, are nestled within a historic banana plantation and within walking distance of plenty of amenities within Funchal.

Bom Dia Villa is close to many amenities, which makes stocking up on groceries and heading out for meals easy and convenient. These amenities include a restaurant and bar within a five-minute walk and an even greater choice of restaurants, cafés, bars and small supermarkets within a 10-minute drive.

You can be enjoying everything that Funchal has to offer in less than 10 minutes when you drive from the villa into the city centre. Visit the harbour to watch cruise ships and smaller boats coming and going. There’s even a replica of Christopher Colombus’ famous ship that sets sail from here on fun trips across the sea. But simply strolling along this pretty waterfront area is enjoyable enough - especially if you want to keep your feet on dry land!

The old town area of Funchal is a great place to get a feel for the city’s past and culture. The cobbled streets are full of character and lined with historic buildings, with some dating back to the 15th century. It’s also a very cosmopolitan place to enjoy a coffee on a café terrace whilst soaking up the lively atmosphere.

One thing you must do when exploring Funchal is take the cable car up the mountain to the Monte area. The journey takes around 20 minutes and you’ll take in some stunning scenery along the way. Funchal is home to numerous gardens, but one of the most impressive is Monte Palace Tropical Garden, which can be accessed via the cable car. These extensive tropical gardens are simply bursting with exotic plants and flowers, and are dotted with artworks such as traditional azulejo tiles and beautiful sculptures.

Funchal is the largest city on the island of Madeira and is encapsulated by Pico Ruivo and its neighbouring mountains, which look as if they have been seamlessly carved into the skyline by a Lusitanian God.

There is no better spot to start your holiday than in the Old Town, which illustrates its personality though street art, architecture and busy local businesses. There are many fine eateries, botanical gardens, a cathedral and impressive museums. Perhaps hop on the Madeira Cable Car as one of your first activities, as this will give you a great idea of the islands size.

Many flock Funchal in order to enjoy the Atlantic Coastline. This is home to its prominent harbour, where hundreds of boats and yachts, some of which enable visitors to embark on a magical sea voyage, can be found. Funchal really is a destination for lovers of the sea; as there are renowned surfing points, as well as being a great place to spot some whales.

Madeirans are also notorious for their elaborate festivals. If you’re travelling during the New Year, you will be treated to one of the world’s biggest Firework Festivals…a dazzling sight! During late February & early Mrach, you are able to witness Carnival and the streets of Funchal are lit with parades and festivities. If that’s not enough for you; the Atlantic Festival International Fireworks Competition, Wine Festival and Christmas are all noteworthy dates for anyone visiting Funchal.

There are some incredible villas on the island and we believe that we have done a great job finding them for you. Have a browse and let us know what you think.

The island of Madeira can be found south west of mainland Portugal, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Due to the island’s location, its is considered to have a Mediterranean climate that serves locals and visitors all year round – making it an ideal escape from reality at any point in the year.

What we love Madeira for is its seemingly ongoing festivals! Madeirans have found an excuse to celebrate most things; including film, their natural surroundings and key patron saints. This means that planning a visit during these days and even weeks of commemoration is well worth it (scroll down to see some key dates).

Madeira is divided into several municipals, each with a special offering to those who visit this island. Our favourite two communities are Funchal and Calheta and these are where you will find most of our beautiful villas.

Madeira’s landscape extends much more than a striking coastline. Make sure you pack some hiking boots and venture inland during your stay. With mountainous trails along Vereda do Arieiro, or more countryside appropriate paths like Levada do Risco and waterfall chasing treks like Levada do Caldeirao Verde – this archipelago has everything a keen outdoors person requires.

For those who enjoy either playing or watching sports, you’ll be happy to know Madeira offers so much selection. Madeira is also home to three notable football clubs, so if you’re visiting during the football season and want to see a good quality of football, you have every chance to. Porto Santo Golfe is the island’s renowned golf course. With an 18-hole course (Par 72) overlooking a Galapagos-like backdrop, golf enthusiasts will certainly want a ‘slice’ of the action! Surfers can access some great beaches like Jardim do Mar, Ponta Pequena, Paul do Mar, and Fajã da Ovelha in order to find some swell. Or, if you’re simply looking to recline on a sun lounger and soak up some rays, whilst listening to crystal clear waves break as they hit the shores, you will find plenty of man-made beaches & Lidos created for your leisure!

With a superb climate, close proximity to the coastline, wonderful cuisine, charming locals and astonishing scenery – this is a fabulous holiday choice for families & friends.

But while you're enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Madeira, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we've put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

  • Rental is clean, very comfortable with a friendly pool area

    Posted by Catherine on 25/08/2019

The villa rental is clean, very comfortable with a friendly pool area. The owners are full of good intentions and want to preserve our privacy and meet all our expectations. A recommended holiday home.

  • What a discovery!

    Posted by Caroline on 01/04/2019

A more than satisfactory stay. Close to the center of FUNCHAL. A magnificent place surrounded by a banana plantation. Very friendly owner. We will certainly return with great pleasure.

  • Great cottage in a wonderful area

    Posted by Susnane on 28/03/2019

We really enjoyed the stay in this accommodation. You really can not live in a better way. It was cozy, spacious, great and there was nothing missing. The whole area was great with banana plantation, super nice pool area we used the whole week alone. The landlady was very nice and always available. Supermarkets, bakers, etc. were in the immediate vicinity. The harbor is about 20 minutes walking distance. Everything is possible, one is not necessarily dependent on a car. We can highly recommend this property.

  • Quiet and blissful.....

    Posted by Michael on 20/03/2019

We enjoy the quiet and privacy of Bom Dia Villa and have stayed there several times. It is set in a beautiful plantation near to the main manor house. 25 min walk into the centre of Funchal or a few minutes by bus. About a 10 minute walk from the unmissable Reid's Hotel! There is a lovely swimming pool/ sitting area. The property is well equipped, comfortable and attractive. The king sized bed is firm and very comfortable. There are two other gite type properties adjoining. We have always found our neighbours to be quiet and courteous. The owners live in the main house and are warm and helpful. So if you want a quiet relaxing environment in beautiful grounds and within walking distance of Funchal old town and plenty of good eateries........

  • Superb environment set in beautiful grounds

    Posted by Michael on 11/06/2016

We stayed for most of May at Bom Dia Villa. Until this year we have stayed at a good Hotel but decided to try somewhere else. It was brilliant. Well equipped, comfortable, spotless and with firm mattresses on the beds. Frank and Buffy are very welcoming. The location is ideal - one really can walk into Funchal and it is near the Ferry Terminal for Porto Santo Island ( a great place to visit), Reids Palace Hotel ( fantastic for afternoon tea) and a range of grocery/coffee shops. All the couples we met seemed like us to like peace and quiet. The pool is very good and I swam most days. If one wants to go to Church - Penha de Franca RC Church ( 20 minute walk) has a service every Sunday at 10.30 in English and its full. The priest is remarkable and welcomes all religions ( we are Methodists). We think it was a super experience and quite a 'find' - Surrey UK couple.
