Although the museum is only open from 9 am till 12:30 pm on weekdays, this is a deeply cultural museum that should not be missed.
Just over three hours away from the centre of Resende is the Douro River, providing a wide range of landmarks for guests to explore at their own pace. For lovers of architecture and religious history. Lamego Cathedral is a perfect spot to uncover. First built in the 12th Century, this cathedral stands pride of place in Lamego, which is just under three hours away from the Douro River. ABOUT THE DOURO
A symbol of Portugal’s birth and growth as a nation, the Douro has long been the country’s lifeline. Leaving the pastel-coloured metropolis of Porto, venture through the enchanting countryside.
Following the winding Douro river east from Porto reveals one of the most scenic drives in Europe and Portugal’s premier wine region, the Douro Valley. With terraces of vines lining the riverbanks, Douro Valley holidays offer stunning hiking trails, beautiful viewpoints and a wonderful selection of peaceful retreats.
In the Douro, you will find quiet towns and villages, vineyards hugging the bends, castles from the time of the Reconquest and other places worthy of a stop to look far into the horizon.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThe Duoro Valley and its accompanying areas are ideal for children as they are packed with a wide range of fun and exhilarating activities. This area has an abundance of natural parks, all of which present the beauty of Portugal in many different ways. The Alvao Natural Park is just over 40-minutes away from the Duoro Valley and offers a large variety of exciting activities for the whole family to enjoy. Within this park, you will have the privilege of seeing the Fisgas de Ermelo waterfalls up close, a magnificent sight that exemplifies the true wonders of the region. This park was first founded in 1983 and is devoted to protecting the natural areas found within the municipalities of Mondim de Basto and Villa Real.
When on holiday, it can be difficult to explore all of the tourist hotspots within one trip. However, the many train routes within the Douro Valley help tourists to explore these destinations with ease. An immersive trip on the InterRegional train begins at Porto, which is about an hour and twenty minutes away from the centre of Resende. This journey guides guests through over 20 tunnels and 30 bridges, providing beautiful views of the Duoro River. The train terminates at Pochino, allowing guests to travel 160km in just over three hours. This attraction is very reasonably priced, with a ticket costing €14 each.
The Duoro Museum is one of the region’s more popular attractions, helping guests from around the world learn more about the stunning history of the area. This museum is less than 10-minutes away from the Douro Valley, making it a very accessible tourist destination. Inside, you will be able to uncover more about the area’s rich wine history, seeing how the humble winemaking industry grew into a bustling trade. Moreover, you will have the chance to learn about the workers who built this industry, seeing how wine became a collectivist production as time passed. In 2021, the Duoro Museum received two honourable mentions in the APOM National Awards, praising its dedication to conservation and cultural education. This is a very affordable attraction, with each ticket costing just €6.

AMAZING!
A stunning home. All wrapped up in the nicest of little towns.
We are already talking of coming back for a month long stay.
Quiet, beautiful, secure...
Over the top communication and helpful people.
If anything the place was undersold. We just kept saying to each other "wow this is amazing".

Serene and beautiful
If you want the true Duoro Valley experience, this is the perfect house. The serene river and valley are all around you, whether you are enjoying the spectacular infinity pool, cooking in the modern kitchen, relaxing with the high tech surround sound / tv, playing snooker, or lying in bed. Nearby Resende has all the amenities you need with several supermarkets, and several good dining options. I look forward to returning to this breathtaking luxurious riverfront retreat. Amazing host too! We were given freshly baked bread each morning, and a welcome cake and fruit basket. Delicious! Highly recommend!
