Enjoy glorious valley views from one of your two swimming pools at Villa Majolica and Bobolino, two charming villas set on a Tuscan hilltop surrounded by olive groves, vineyards and forested hills. Just half an hour from Florence and with Lucca and Siena also easily reached, this estate is perfectly located for exploring the very best of this beautiful region.

The larger of the two villas, Villa Majolica, has undergone such a thoughtful restoration and features charming interiors alongside modern features. Soak up the traditional Tuscan ambience as you admire exposed wood beams and original terracotta floors and appreciate the comfortable furnishings and great attention to detail of this welcoming 5-bedroom home, sleeping up to 11 guests.

Smaller Villa Bobolino is bursting with character and charm, with room for 4-6 guests across two bedrooms and a sofa-bed. The panoramic views are stunning as you relax on the veranda or wander up to Majolica for grand al-fresco feasts on the large terrace with more sweeping valley views close by.

With exclusivity of the whole estate, guests have the benefit of two wonderful swimming pools. The picture-perfect setting of Villa Majolica’s pool will enchant you with its pretty flowers whilst Villa Bobolino’s salt-water pool makes the most of the Tuscan landscapes and also features a jacuzzi corner.

Both medieval Montelupo Fiorentino and historic Empoli are around ten minutes by car with their inviting restaurants, cafes and shops whilst the artistic treasures and exquisite architecture of Florence can be reached in around half an hour.

When not hiking, cycling or horse-riding through the undulating landscapes of cypresses, vineyards and olive groves, spend time visiting idyllic villages such as San Miniato and San Gimignano or stunning towns including Siena, Lucca and Pisa. You could even reach the Versilia coast in just over an hour or head to the Chianti vineyards to taste some of the finest wines in this exceptional part of Italy.

Please note that Villa Majolica & Villa Bobolino are actually located in the region of Tuscany but very close to the San Gimignano border.

Just half an hour west of Florence in the Fiorentine Chianti hills, Villas Majolica and Bobolino sit on a hilltop with stunning valley views, set amongst forested hills, olive trees and vineyards.

Within a short drive you will find Montelupo Fiorentino (4km), a small medieval town which was an important pottery centre in the Renaissance era. It’s also known for its wonderful Tuscan food with restaurants and local agriturismi often serving delicious produce from nearby farms. Locally made Pan Bistugio is a Montelupo Fiorentino speciality, especially when accompanied by wine from local Chianti vineyards.

Make the most of the beautiful walking, cycling and horse-riding trails through this part of Tuscany and beyond. Golf-lovers have the choice of a picturesque nine-hole course only a 10-minute drive away or the popular Circolo Golf dell'Ugolino just south of Florence.

The rich heritage of Empoli (7km) is also waiting to be explored, as is the gorgeous perched village of San Miniato (20km) with its enchanting lanes and grand square. If staying in late autumn or winter then look out for white truffles being served in local restaurants or you could even partake in a truffle-hunting excursion.

Other historic gems to visit include Certaldo (25km), San Gimignano (37km) and Volterra (56km) whilst the Chianti vineyards, wineries and idyllic villages can be reached within an hour such as Radda, Greve and Castellina in Chianti.

If you are hoping to visit Florence for the day then why not drive to the local station, around 5km away, and catch the 30-minute train to the city centre. There is so much to do within this stunning city whether exploring its art galleries and museums, enjoying a gelato by the carousel on Piazza della Repubblica or just wandering around the city admiring its incredible architecture.

Siena (67km) is another fantastic day out, as is Lucca (60km), Pisa (60km) and even the Versilia coast with Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi under 90 minutes away. For a truly spectacular drive, head further north to the charming coastline and villages of the Golfo dei Poeti and onwards to La Spezia (132km), the gateway to the Cinque Terre National Park.

Please note that Villa Majolica & Villa Bobolino are actually located in the region of Tuscany but very close to the San Gimignano border.

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

The choice of places to visit in Florence can be overwhelming. Start off by viewing the city from above, from Piazzale Michelangelo or from the top of the cathedral dome. Taking in the main artistic sites can be balanced with a trip to the magnificent Boboli gardens for a stroll or picnic. After a morning admiring artworks at the Uffizi gallery, the promise of a generous helping of creamy gelato in a cone or large bowl of fresh pasta at a local trattoria cannot fail to delight children of all ages.

If the little ones fancy a cool off from the hot Tuscan sun, pay a visit to Acqua Village in Cecina, just over an hour away. This Hawaiian-themed park has more than 2km of slides and seven swimming pools and has something to offer the whole family!

If you fancy a more educational day, a trip to Castello dell’Imperatore is a must. This huge structure looks like it is straight out of a fairytale, with high crenelated walls and towers. It was originally built for the emperor and King of Sicily, Frederick II, and it is a typical stronghold to protect from attacks. And it’s such a great place for kids to explore and learn about the history of the country!
