Perched on the edge of a cliff in south west Santorini, set in the heart of the Aegean Sea, this exquisitely restored fisherman’s cottage will simply take your breath away. Small, but oh so perfectly formed, Villa Santorini Sunset is surrounded by the cobalt blue waters of the Aegean Sea. Located slightly away from the town, it takes you to a place of peace and privacy. Let your imagination take you to a traditional white washed Theran stone house, with a low domed roof, designed to be cool in summer and warm in winter. The villa has been stylishly redesigned using some of the original artefacts of the fisherman’s trade, including the crane that was used to haul the nets. Interior designers have sympathetically furnished the house to complement the natural beauty of the location using traditional handmade arts and crafts. Villa Santorini Sunset has been decorated with discreet minimalist classic Cycladic crisp clean whites, sea blue marine trim, and soft dove grey highlights. The villa has one en-suite double bedroom, and is ideal for a couple’s getaway or a romantic honeymoon. This is an idyllic escape in the most stunning sea view setting, with a relaxed vibe, and a sense of tranquillity.

Access the villa via a private paved driveway, then walk through a welcoming arch, where you will find your escape from it all holiday home nestled on a secluded terrace, surrounded by whitewashed walls. Enter the villa through the blue painted door, where there is a light and airy open plan living space. The seating area has two built in soft grey cushioned sofas, which could be used as sleeping beds for children, and a scattering of handcrafted occasional tables. There is a small kitchen with a fridge, and essential equipment to cater for your holiday. Breakfast is delivered to the villa at around 9.30am every day, which is a lovely luxurious treat. A wooden dining table and four chairs is ideal for some indoor entertaining. The separate master bedroom leads off from the living area, this spacious light and airy room is charmingly decorated in crisp white walls, furniture and linens, and classic sea blue accesories. There is a large double bed with white bedside tables, open wardrobes and shelving space, a freestanding mirror and chairs, and a flat screen television. Leading off from the bedroom is an ensuite bathroom, with a shower, hand basin, and WC.

We are sure you will be spending most of your time on the secluded expansive terrace, where there is a Jacuzzi whirlpool bath, the perfect place to cool off with a cocktail whilst watching the sunset. Take in some rays in on one of the four white cushioned sun loungers with matching shady parasols. A dove grey soft seating area with side tables is the ideal hot spot to enjoy a morning coffee, and watching the sun rise. Santorini Sunset is located on a promontory, sited low in the hills of the Akrotiri peninsula, on the southwest coast of the beautiful volcanic island of Santorini, part of the Cyclades, in the heart of the Aegean Sea. A stunning former traditional whitewashed fisherman’s house set in the seclusion of a rugged landscape, with sweeping panoramic sea views, and a tranquil ambiance. The villa is a short thirteen kilometre drive from Santorini International airport, or if you are island hopping the port is just north of the villa. The island of Santorini is only eighteen kilometres by twelve kilometres, so wherever you would like to go, it is only a short distance away.

The local area of Akrotiri is famous for the ancient pre-historic archaeological excavations which date back as far as the sixteenth century BC, and is famous for the fabulous frescoes from Minoan times. More recently the village is home to welcoming cafes, bars, and sea front tavernas, as well as a great beach with water sports, a dive centre, and daily boat trip operators. The nearby Akrotiri Lighthouse is well worth the evening walk for a rewarding view of the most stunning sunsets. The nearest beaches are Caldera, with its black volcanic sand, gravel, and rocks, with a view of the caldera, it is a great hit with scuba divers, whilst just around the bay is the delightfully named Snoozie Beach. Santorini’s coastline is populated with beaches, just pick a colour from red, white, or black for the volcanic rock backdrop and style of sand.

For those who fancy a more active holiday there are walking trails and hikes across the island, where you can view the local flora and fauna, admire the dramatic landscape, and take a pitstop in a local village and savour the homemade delicacies. The favourite walk is from the island’s capital of Fira, a cosmopolitan city, twelve kilometres north of the villa, to the charming village of Oia at the top of the island. Fira is where it’s at for your evening entertainment, a small city full of cafes, bars, restaurants, clubs, souvenir shops, and a cable car. Fira is also home to a number of museums, including the Folklore Museum of Emmanuel Lignos, which is also a winery, art gallery, library, and chapel, and the Archaeological and Prehistoric Museums of Thera, housing some of the artefacts from the excavations at Akrotiri. Whilst you are there take time to visit the sapphire blue domed Three Bells of Fira church in the village of Firostefani.

Oia is the must-see village located in the north of the island, a forty five minute drive from the villa. It is carved into Santorini’s cliffs, with eye catching colourful rooftops, an azure sea blue backdrop, beach front freshly caught fish restaurants, and some upmarket luxury designer label shops. Oia also boasts the Naval Maritime Museum with a collection of sixteenth to eighteenth century icons and relics. Santorini sunsets are superb, and you’ll see none better than at the end of the day, sipping an ouzo, overlooking Oia. Take a drive around the island to discover ancient sites, castles and fortifications, traditional villages, orthodox churches, and working monasteries. Skaros is considered the most important of Santorini’s five castle fortresses, inhabited in medieval times as a protection against pirates. Pyrgos Casteli was once the capital of the island, with a Venetian castle, a labyrinth of winding streets, and thirty three churches. It is also home to the monastery and churches of Profitas Ilias, where you can buy some of their local handmade products. The walk up the hill will reward you with sweeping panoramic views of the island.

Stop off at Megalochori, Santorini’s most picturesque village, with traditional Cycladic small white washed houses, cobbled streets, and beautiful churches. Whilst the village of Imerovigli is known locally as the Balcony to the Aegean, due to its unique location three hundred and fifty metres above sea level, the highest point of the caldera, and the ideal Instagram opportunity. The town of Emporio has reputedly the most authentic architecture of the Cycladic islands, as well as a six hundred year old Venetian castle, amidst a maze of narrow streets. After all of that sightseeing you definitely deserve a glass or two of Santorini’s premium wine. Taste the variety on offer of local cuvees at Estate Argos, or visit Venetsanos, above the port of Athinios, rich in history, architecture and incredible views, not to mention their blends of delicious grapes made richer by the volcanic soil – yamas!

Getting There

How to reach Santorini island

There are two ways to reach Santorini Island: either by flight or by ferry.

By plane: The airport of Santorini (JTR) is located in the region of Kamari that is 8 km far from Thira. Santorini island is one of the most popular Greek destinations, that is why many tourists arrive on the island with direct ferries from their country. Domestic flights are available too.

By ferry: The main port of Santorini is called Athinios (JTR) and is located 9 km outside of Thira. The trip from Piraeus can last from 5 hours (if you take a speed ferry) to 9 hours (if you prefer the conventional ferry). One more thing that you should keep in mind is that Santorini is connected through various routes to the most Cyclades islands. You can easily book your ferry tickets using the link below or the booking engine.
