Within a 20-minute drive of the airport and Corfu Town, this idyllic ocean-view villa can accommodate up to 10 guests and impresses with its 45 sq m private pool and garden terrace.

The house enjoys pretty and peaceful surroundings, with gardens of citrus and olive trees offering some wonderfully relaxing areas, including a dining area and barbecue. A large pool terrace is lined with sun loungers and there are hammocks and seating outside too. A covered dining area is just steps away from the pool, and there’s another attractive space on the extensive upper terrace above, with a delightful view of the Ionian Sea.

Situated on Corfu’s east coast, conveniently close to the main town, the village of Benitses, sometimes known as Mpenitses, is an attractive former fishing village. These days, it’s tourism which is the backbone of the local economy, and Benitses provides all a visitor could want or need. You will find plenty of bars and restaurants, with the area around the boat-filled marina, acting as a focal point.

It’s just as easy to reach Benitses from the airport, which is itself just south of Corfu town – the journey should only take about 20 minutes. Closer still is a local landmark, the grand Achilleion house. This impressive property was originally built as a summer palace for Empress Elisabeth of Austria, and while her story is a tragic one, it is certainly an enjoyable place to visit, with wonderful views from the beautifully kept gardens.

To the north, Corfu town is well worth visiting, and features many architecturally impressive sights. The Royal Palace, which now houses a Museum of Asian Art, is a Neoclassical mansion with a fascinating collection of Indian, Japanese and Chinese works within. A pretty courtyard café enjoys views across the water towards the southern fringes of Albania.

Also noteworthy are the Old Fortress and the New Fortress, both built by the Venetians in the 16th century. Walk up the highest points of either and you can marvel at the views, although the buildings themselves are interesting to walk around. Set in a park in the Kanóni part of town, you can also see the birthplace of the Duke of Edinburgh, the palace of Mon Repos.

A possible excursion, while you are in Kanóni, is a boat trip to the peaceful islet of Pontikonísi, or Mouse Island – but only if you happen to be around on the one day of the year visitors are permitted (6th August). Perhaps the most photographed spot in the area, it is said to resemble a mouse when viewed from above. You can best capture it from outside the Panagia Vlacherna monastery, itself at the end of a walkway which extends into the sea.

The Island/Getting There

One of the largest and greenest of the Ionian Islands, Corfu is far more than its trademark blue-hued seas and sandy coastline. With its UNESCO World Heritage status and unbeatable strolling opportunities, there is no better place to start exploring than the main town and its historic old quarter, where ancient churches, scattered ruins and a handful of museums mean Corfu’s layers of history can be found just about everywhere. And if you’re in need of a cosy abode, take a look at our flawless villas in Corfu.

With a big outdoor pool looking out on the ocean, Villa Jacaranda Lilac is made for families. Set in large gardens, and only a short walk from the beach, there is always somewhere to be enjoying the great outdoors. Indoors is pretty good too, with the villa’s comfy bedrooms and cool terrace areas allowing them space of their own – plus there’s TV, DVD and Wi-Fi to keep them entertained.

Head into Corfu Town to find loads of shops, cafés and restaurants to explore, with pizza, burgers and all the usual favourites, alongside irresistible Greek specialities. It’s not just the food that could be an education – with museums and historic houses and galleries aplenty, Corfu has a lot you might not necessarily expect.

There’s still sand and sun, of course. When you have enjoyed the beach, you could take a boat trip – either to another island or just to see the marine wildlife living in the Ionian Sea. A glass-bottomed boat is the way to go here.

Elsewhere on the island, you will find the Corfu Aquarium, located on the west coast at Palaiokastritsa and, closer to Corfu town, the popular Aqualand water-park. It’s as much fun for the adults as the kids.

  • More than we could have ever asked for!

    on 22/10/2019

The villa is amazing! It is sparkling clean, there is a lot of space inside the house and also outside, the pool is conveniently placed next to the villa, also super clean, and you can spend the whole day in the sun beds. The villa is very elegant, recently renovated as we were told by the hosts, we loved the interior design, the kitchen is fully equipped, the view is to die for, the beds are very comfortable and we also loved the hosts. They did everything in their power to ensure that we had a wonderfull time. The villa was being cleaned and bedsheets and towels were being changed regularly. The location is ideal, it is very close to Benitses, which is a charming village, and it is in the center of the island so you can visit easily the north and the south part. We also loved swimming in the pool at night, the lights in the pool, house and garden are amazing! Thank you Giorgos and Afroditi for a wonderful stay, it really exceeded our expectations!!!

  • Beautiful Villa, amazing pool!

    on 07/04/2019

The best thing about the villa is the pool, the perfect place to spend the whole day with kids. It is surrounded by a beautiful garden and it is ideal for relaxation.
But the greatest surprise of all is that we were the first to enter (visit) the villa after its renovation!!! Everything was brand new and the interior was much better than what we had seen in the photos.
The villa combines the style of a traditional corfiot mansion in its exterior, with a flavor of modern architecture, convenience and cozy new furniture in the interior.
Although the bus station is just outside the villas' gate, renting a car is necessary if you really want to see Corfu.
The owner was helpful and available whenever we needed him.
A really nice place for a short family stay in Corfu.
