Stay in a characterful Dordogne residence with a heated swimming pool, only a 5-minute drive to Monpazier, one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’.
In a lovely countryside setting and part of a larger estate, Monpazier Cottage features three bedrooms and its own garden. We love how the original features exude such charm from the thick stone walls to the exposed wood beams across the spacious living and dining room. Yet there are also ample modern touches including a Smart TV with Netflix, reverse-cycle air-conditioning throughout and a bright kitchen for preparing wonderful meals.
One master en suite double alongside another double and a twin bedroom that share a contemporary shower room allow up to 6 guests to stay in this comfortable and characterful home. Outside in the garden you can make the most of the heated swimming pool or simply relax on the al-fresco terrace, then fire up the barbecue. With open grounds, there’s a feeling of rural calm as you look out towards the trees, étang and countryside landscapes.
Picture-perfect Monpazier, one of the Dordogne’s most beautifully preserved bastide villages, is only 6km away by car. The 700-year-old Thursday morning market is a joy and there are many excellent restaurants and pretty shops.
Other Dordogne gems include picturesque Issigeac with its Sunday morning market, the historic towns of Belvès and Beaumont-du-Périgord as well as Bergerac and vineyards. Picnic by the banks of the Dordogne or hire canoes in Le Buisson-de-Cadouin, under half an hour away, and venture towards the gorgeous riverside villages of Beynac-et-Cazenac, La Roque-Gageac and Domme.
Heading south towards the Lot River, visit much-loved spots such as Monflanquin and Puy-l'Évêque whilst wine-lovers should not miss a day out in Cahors, such a handsome town surrounded by Malbec-producing vineyards creating some of the finest wines in the world.
