Set deep in the heart of the Dordogne, Le Mas Périgourdin sits at the end of a private drive in a small sleepy village less than half an hour from riverside Bergerac. Dating back to 1750, this sensitively restored former bakehouse and its adjoining barns have been lovingly held by one family for over 25 years, offering guests a rare combination of historic charm, characterful space and beautiful grounds.

Inside, two salons invite both quiet moments and convivial evenings, while a formal dining room and traditional country kitchen bring everyone together around the table. Seven en-suite bedrooms are spread thoughtfully across three wings, connected by separate staircases. Antique furnishings lend character throughout, while modern conveniences are discreetly in place, including new kitchen appliances, good mattresses and updated en suite bathrooms.

Outside, the grounds stretch across three hectares of lawns and mature trees. Spend long, sun-soaked days around the open-air heated pool, complete with a bar and summer kitchen for effortless entertaining. Enjoy leisurely outdoor meals beneath the vine-draped pergola, where a barbecue sets the scene for warm summer evenings.

Meanwhile, younger guests can retreat to the Old Schoolhouse within the grounds for games of pool or table tennis, or unwind upstairs in the snug with a film on the big screen. A pitch and putt course and badminton area offer further outdoor fun for everyone.

Set in a tiny village/hamlet, you can order fresh bread from the nearby restaurant-bar or pick up daily essentials a short drive away in Saint Alvère with its two bakeries, grocery store and Monday morning market. Riverside Lalinde and Bergerac are also within easy reach for wonderful restaurants, vibrant markets and rich heritage.

From canoeing down the Dordogne to exploring hilltop castles and medieval towns, the region promises both relaxation and adventure in equal measure. Whether reuniting with family or travelling with friends, Le Mas Périgourdin offers a timeless escape where memories are made to last.

What you should know

  • The upstairs bedrooms are scattered across three wings – one of the staircases is especially steep, but if guests find stairs tricky then there is a ground-floor master bedroom (although do note there are a few steps across the ground floor). Please see the “Layout” tab and floorplan for details.
