Tucked within the verdant grounds of a 17th-century former courthouse, Cottage du Jardin offers a delightful retreat for two. With its own lawned garden and a private 11-metre pool glinting in the sun, this characterful haven is a place where days are slow and surroundings are steeped in French charm.

Inside, the 2-person cottage has been fully restored with care and craftsmanship. The open-plan ground floor is bright and welcoming, where the well-equipped kitchen and dining area flow into the lounge with Wi-Fi, a TV (UK channels ) and DVD player. Upstairs, a single bedroom and a double room are thoughtfully arranged alongside the shower room.

Step outside and the garden becomes your own personal sanctuary. Read beneath the dappled shade of a tree, enjoy leisurely breakfasts on the terrace or stretch out on a sunlounger by the pool accompanied by birdsong. A barbecue and table tennis are provided for relaxed al-fresco afternoons.

Cottage du Jardin lies just a short walk from the heart of Thonac, where you’ll find a couple of restaurants and a grocery shop selling fresh bread in the morning. The picturesque riverside town of Montignac is a 10-minute drive, while Sarlat-la-Canéda, with its cobbled streets and lively markets, is only half an hour away. From canoeing along the Vézère River to wandering prehistoric caves at Lascaux and Les Eyzies, this corner of the Dordogne invites discovery.

With its storybook setting and characterful features, Cottage du Jardin is a rare escape for couples seeking restful days and French charm.
