In one of Provence’s most beautiful regions, Maison Boisée and its apartment is a stunning contemporary home for guests looking to relax in quiet surroundings yet be just a five-minute drive from the delightful Provençal town of L’Isle sur la Sorgue, near Avignon.

Architecturally beautiful, Maison Boisée offers vast space in its air-conditioned living room with elegant sofas, a fireplace, contemporary fittings and striking artwork. Large sliding windows open straight out on to the calming terrace where you can hear birds sing in the surrounding woodland as you relax with your morning coffee. The modern kitchen is brilliantly equipped whilst a delightful al-fresco dining terrace is ideal for summer evenings cooking by the plancha-barbecue.

There are three delightful bedrooms, each one with doors leading out to the gardens, as well as two en suite shower rooms and a bathroom. Furthermore, a first-floor apartment in the west wing of the house, with its own entrance, offers a fourth en suite bedroom alongside a lovely air-conditioned living area, kitchen corner and upper decked terrace.

Outside you will appreciate the tranquil ambience whether you are dipping into the large swimming pool or seeking shade in the 4000m2 of wooded grounds. Play a game of boules or ping-pong, swing in the hammock or snooze in one of the deckchairs, this is an idyllic setting in Mediterranean surroundings.

L’Isle sur la Sorgue is just 2.5km away, a charming and very picturesque town known for its many waterways and antique dealers. Enjoy long lunches by the riverside, admire the ancient water wheels and visit the famous brocante on a Sunday morning, one of the biggest in Europe. Head to the source of the Sorgue river in Fontaine de Vaucluse and canoe back to L’Isle sur la Sorgue to appreciate just how special the scenery is.

This is the gateway to so many wonderful Provençal places from Apt to Avignon and Cavaillon to Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Some of the Luberon’s archetypal villages are within a short drive, activities include golf, hiking and cycling and the landscapes of vineyards, undulating hills and fields of lavender are just tremendous. This is true Provence at its very best.

Offering visual contemporary beauty alongside authentic Provençal nature, Maison Boisée is a special place in an incredible setting in this enchanting part of southern France.

Maison Boisée and its apartment is located in a residential area, surrounded by 4000m2 of beautiful grounds featuring woodland. It’s just a five-minute drive to local supermarkets as well as the charming town of L’Isle sur la Sorgue, just east of Avignon in this beautiful part of Provence.

L’Isle sur la Sorgue is a delightful town, famous for its many waterways as well as antique shops. The Sunday morning market, a farmer’s market as well as one of the largest brocante in Europe, is well-known and people come from all over the region and beyond to hunt for hidden treasures in the antiques and bric-à-brac market as well as wonderful local produce. The Sorgue river also runs through the town and you can admire its ancient water wheels or enjoy a coffee or lunch by one of the riverside; L’Isle sur la Sorgue really is an incredibly picturesque place to spend some time.

The town used to be a fishing village many years ago and you can still fish for trout in the river. Canoeing is also popular pursuit; you can hire canoes and kayaks and sail from the source of the river in Fontaine de Vaucluse to L’Isle sur la Sorgue.

There is a beautiful golf course just a short drive away and other outdoor activities include stunning hiking trails through the Luberon countryside as well as Mont Ventoux (also popular with cyclists) and Plateau de Vaucluse.

The idyllic villages of the Luberon region are just a short drive away such as Gordes (22km), one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ and so loved by Van Gogh, Ménerbes (20km) and Roussillon (30km) as well as many others. Don’t miss the weekly Farmer’s market in Apt (35km), a town known for its candied fruit. The stunning Les Alpilles are also within striking distance with archetypal villages such as Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (34km) and Les Baux-de-Provence (44km) ideal for wonderful day trips.

Wine-lovers can discover many of the great vineyards across the Luberon and Les Alpilles or head north to the southern Rhône with famous wine villages and towns such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape (30km).

Cavaillon (15km), famous for its canteloupe melons and historic architecture as well as the beautiful cities of Avignon (36km) and Aix-en-Provence (76km) are further great places to visit. You could even head as far south as Marseille (90km) and the surrounding coastline, particularly Parc National des Calanques.

The Camargue Natural Regional Park is also just over an hour away; this really is a great location for exploring this rich and diverse part of Provence.

Owner Profile

How long have you owned the property?
I became the owner at the end of summer 2017. Since then, the property has undergone a lot of renovation.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
What attracted me to this property is the peace and serenity, the surroundings, the nature, the large bay windows allowing you to bring the outside indoors. The spacious pool, the terraces, the beautiful furniture.

Are there any interesting stories in its history?
Being in the woodlands, the birds come to drink at the edge of the pool. We have also seen squirrels in the trees.

For anyone coming to stay, is there anything you suggest that they really…

Must do?
Visit the Lavender museum and discover its precious secrets in the neighbouring village of Coustellet.

A little further away, the well-known village Gordes is situated on a rocky hillside. At the bottom, you can visit a village previously known as “ Village des Bories” which is a classified historical monument thanks to its buildings made without mortar and visit the magnificent Abbay de Sénanque.

Must eat?
Try local dishes such as soupe au pistou, tapenade, anchoiade, l’aïoli, ratatouille or even la daube.

Must see?
The region of Isle sur la Sorgue is very popular with tourists, being a Mediterranean region with a great amount of sunshine. The relief is varied which makes the area even more exciting to visit.  There is a rich cultural heritage and several festivals take place in the area over the summer. Isle de la Sorgue is a village full of joy, and well-known by antiques dealers for its colourful market.

Further away, you can find the pretty village of Goult in the heart of Luberon’s Regional Nature Park. Continue until you reach APT and its famous glacé fruits.

Don’t miss the giant of Provence, Mont Ventoux. This legendary mountain is popular with cyclists and hikers alike. Avignon, the capital of the Cotes du Rhone,  is also worth visiting.
