Overview

Pool Villa/House Modern Ideal for Kids Garage

Bastide Paul is an exquisitely designed Provençal house on the edge of the artistic town of Saint-Rémy. Alongside stylish interiors, make the most of the gorgeous heated swimming pool and summer kitchen whilst being close to so many wonderful attractions across Les Alpilles and beyond.

Both Bastide Paul and neighbouring Bastide Diane have been created by one of our existing owners who has experience in designing high-end accommodation for discerning travellers. You can see this as soon as you step into Bastide Paul with its elegant features and incredible attention to detail across the home.

Sleeping up to 6 guests, the cosy lounge has doors opening out to the upper terrace whilst the open-plan kitchen and dining area is as chic as you would expect. On this same level, an impressive king-size double bedroom features a striking open-plan bathroom with a large walk-in shower and artwork upon the wall.

Upstairs you will find two further doubles, each with a king-size bed (which can be split into a twin), and a shared modern bathroom with bathrobes and products. There is air-conditioning throughout this inviting home.

Walking down the steps outside, the heated swimming pool awaits alongside the pretty garden, century-old oaks, herbs, roses and other colourful summer flowers creating a lovely ambience. Sun loungers are there for restful days by the swimming pool – you needn’t go far thanks to the summer kitchen with its fridge and Green Egg barbecue (there’s even a shower and WC).

Indeed, everything seems to have been considered here, including an à la carte menu of bespoke services that can be arranged such as breakfast delivery, private chef, grocery shopping, extra cleaning as well as bike hire, sports coaching and massage treatments.

All of this and historic Saint-Rémy is slightly less than 2km away, a delightful town to explore with its cafes, bistros, art exhibitions and Wednesday morning market – pick up cheese, honey, lavender products, olive oil, wine and all sorts of seasonal fruit and vegetables to take home to your kitchen and terrace.

Picture-perfect villages nearby include Eygalières, Les Baux-de-Provence and Maussane-les-Alpilles. Pass undulating landscapes of olive groves, forests, idyllic valleys and limestone peaks as you drive, cycle or hike across Les Alpilles.

Slightly further afield are the historic sites of Avignon, Nîmes and Arles, the antiques and waterways of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and the natural beauty of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. Then there’s the landscapes of the Luberon with its perched villages, orchards and vineyards, yet another captivating corner of Provence.

Enjoying a brilliant location in Provence, Bastide Paul is less than 2km south-east of Saint-Rémy, semi-detached to the equally attractive Bastide Diane. If arriving by plane, fly into the airports near Avignon, Nîmes or Marseille, all within an hour. Alternatively, Avignon TGV train station is 23km away with fast services from Lille and Paris.

The houses are situated in a residential area with a semi-rural feel on the edge of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Just stroll down the tree-lined road, passing neighbouring houses, and you will see rural landscapes a few steps away. The centre of Saint-Rémy (2km) is around a 5-minute drive away – you could also walk there within half an hour following pavements most of the way (depending on your chosen route).

Known for its artistic heritage, experience the bustling ambience of Saint-Rémy as you wander along its cobbled lanes coming across bistros, pavement cafes and art galleries. Follow the Van Gogh trail towards Monastery Saint-Paul de Mausole to the south of the town and don’t miss the vibrant Wednesday morning market where stall owners showcase a wealth of delicious local products such as olive oil, cheese, charcuterie, honey, lavender, wine and a wealth of seasonal fruit and vegetables alongside artisan crafts and more. Art markets take place on the occasional Sunday in the summer alongside the Tuesday evening Creator’s market in late July/August.

As you explore Les Alpilles, visit pretty villages such as Les Baux-de-Provence (10km), one of France’s ’Plus Beaux Villages’, and Eygalières (11km) with its cobbled lanes and high-end restaurants, both with glorious vistas of the surrounding landscapes from their hilltop settings. Maussane-les-Alpilles (10km) is a lovely spot for lunch on the village square by the fountain and church – try the local olive oil produced from the many groves surrounding Maussane, Les Baux and Mouriès.

There are golf courses across this part of Provence including Domaine de Manville (12km) near Les Baux-de-Provence whilst keen walkers, hikers, cycling enthusiasts and horse riders can appreciate the scenery of Les Alpilles with endless olive groves, forests, limestone peaks and valleys. Sample good wines at nearby wineries or venture a little further afield to the vineyards of the Rhône valley or Luberon.

Elsewhere in Provence and beyond, spend time in Avignon (26km) visiting its UNESCO World Heritage sites, canoe/kayak beneath the magnificent Pont du Gard (42km), admire the art exhibitions of Arles (28km), also the gateway to the Camargue, or head east to the iconic villages and stunning landscapes of the Luberon – Gordes, Ménerbes and Bonnieux are all less than an hour by car.
