Book Now & Grow Green: 3 Trees Planted with Every Booking!

This Earth Day, join our mission to plant 3 trees for every booking made between April 22nd - 28th, 2024. Let's make a sustainable impact together! Learn more about our journey here >>

Stay in the most Provençal of surroundings at this historic stone bastide with glorious gardens, a heated swimming pool and tennis court, within walking distance of the idyllic hilltop village of Ménerbes.

Whether finding a quiet spot to relax in the olive grove or appreciating the summer aroma of lavender, the gardens are simply superb. Dine al-fresco in the shade of the mulberry tree, play a game of tennis on your own private court and enjoy the fantastic swimming pool surrounded by manicured lawns, hedges and trees. With views towards the Luberon valley, the setting is truly idyllic and just perfect for the ultimate holiday in Provence.

Inside, the characterful interiors will also impress with a large living space leading out to the garden, a brilliantly equipped kitchen as well as a charming dining room under the vaulted arched ceiling. Another lounge area and comfortable study means there is always somewhere to seek a little space as well as ample room to gather with your loved ones to enjoy food and wine together.

The five bedrooms are set over all three floors, all with en suite bath or shower rooms and three benefitting from air-conditioning. A good mixture of twins and doubles allows for flexible sleeping arrangements whether you choose the king-size double on the first floor with its particularly characterful features or perhaps the pretty ground floor twin/double with a door leading out to a garden terrace.

Experience the Provençal ambience of hilltop Ménerbes with its charming shops, restaurants and weekly Farmer’s market or drive out to other archetypal villages of the Luberon such as Bonnieux, Roussillon and Gordes. Hike or cycle through landscapes of vineyards, cedar forests and hills and admire the incredible views of the Luberon massif. Kayak along the Sorgue river and seek out antique treasures at the Sunday morning market in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.

Then there’s Avignon, Saint-Rémy and Aix-en-Provence to discover as well as the gorgeous scenery of Les Alpilles nearby. This is a stunning part of Provence which offers a wealth of experiences for everyone.

In beautiful Provence, Bastide Bleu Lavande is set just outside the Luberon village of Ménerbes, in the foothills of the Luberon massif.

Wander up the hill and you can walk up to Ménerbes in around twenty minutes following the country roads/tracks (no pavement, as is typical in this part of France). The village is famed for being the setting of Peter Mayes’ ‘A Year in Provence’ and it is an idyllic place to explore with its cobbled lanes, restaurants, cafes and Thursday morning Farmer’s market. Look out for classical music concerts that take place in the summer months in Ménerbes and other nearby villages.

Other outstanding places to visit include the lavender fields of Gordes, one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ and the ochre-coloured village of Roussillon. Medieval Lacoste is a beautifully preserved village with the ruins of an 11th century castle whilst food-lovers should visit the Saturday morning Provençal market in Apt (21km), known to be one of the best in the area.

The Luberon National Park is a paradise for walkers, hikers and cyclists with routes through vineyards, cherry orchards and olive groves, often with incredible vistas of the Luberon valley. Rock-climbing is popular near the tiny village of Buoux and there are also plenty of horse-riding and mountain biking opportunities in the region. Another amazing experience is to kayak along the Sorgue river from Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, less than half an hour away.

Then there’s the towns and cities of Provence waiting to be explored from Avignon (48km) with its UNESCO World Heritage sights and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (40km) where you can follow the Van Gogh trail and view some of the landscapes that inspired the famous painter. Aix-en-Provence (61km) is another glorious day out, an atmospheric Provençal town with characterful terrace cafes, a number of art galleries and museums and the magical Carrousel Paul Cezanne.

This part of Provence offers a wealth of outdoor activities as well as some fantastic days out for all ages.

The most adventurous of guests will love the hiking, cycling and mountain biking opportunities across the Luberon and there is also horse-riding nearby. Rock-climbing is another popular activity both in the Luberon and Alpilles, especially close to the little village of Buoux.

Head to Fontaine-de-Vaucluse to hire kayaks along the Sorgue river or spend a day at the tree-top activity centre there where there are activities for children as young as three (depending on height restrictions).

The zoo in La Barben, about an hour by car, is another much-loved day out with a variety of animals, reptiles and a playground. Heading north towards Carpentras, the amusement park, Parc Spirou Provence, and the model railway centre at Le Jarditrain are two other regional attractions that may appeal to families staying in this area.
