Welcome to the beautiful Chateau Saint Jean. This exceptional chateau renta was constructed in 1820 by the current owner’s family and embodies everything a romantic French chateau should; elegant décor, awe inspiring towers and turrets and intricate stone masonry. It is located in a mature woodland setting with beautiful views to the east across the castles lawns, the local village and the 10 hectares of private parkland.

Chateau Saint Jean has an elegant and spacious interior and accommodates 13 guests in 7 luxurious bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. The ground floor is home to a modern kitchen, a spacious living room, the dining room and a charming salon.

Outdoors is a sizable heated swimming pool with pool house and a terrace with barbecue, perfect for al fresco dining on long summer evenings. The local village of Saint Jean is a just short, pleasant stroll from the chateau. 4 miles away is the larger town of Loches, rated one of the most magnificent medieval towns in France, which offers plenty of shops, restaurants, sights, music & theatrical events.

The chateau is both spacious and elegant with a modern kitchen, a living room, the dining room and a salon.

The chateau can accommodate 13 guests in 7 bedrooms (5 en-suite) in a variety of sizes and configurations. These consist of a mix of suites and rooms, with living areas and lovely original features such as marble fireplaces. There is also space for additional children.

There are four double bedrooms and one twin on the first floor, all en-suite. Two of the double bedrooms have adjoining rooms on each end; one small twin and one single, ideal for families.

In the grounds there is a secure heated swimming pool (6x12m, max depth 2m) with pool furniture and sun loungers. There is also a BBQ area and terrace, a table tennis table, volleyball equipment, free access to bicycles and private woodland parks ideal for walks. Locally there is tennis and golf (driving range) within 2 miles. St. Jean (500m) has the River Indre with a water fall that is very popular, locals like to swim or fish here, there is a sandy area and a large picnic area. A little further you will also find Lake Chemille (6 miles) which offers watersports.

There is a bakery, a golf course and tennis courts within 2km of the chateau. The medieval city of Loches, voted one of the finest medieval villages in France, is 4km away. We have a local restaurant/routiers within walking distance, they serve from Mon-Fri lunch and dinner, presently 11 euros all inclusive (4 courses and wine).

The Indre River flows through the local village 1km away and is very popular for swimming (it has a small water fall), fishing and picnics. Our local restaurant serves lunch from noon and dinners from Mon-Friday.

A little further you will also find Lake Chemille (6 miles) which offers watersports.

There are many Historical Chateaux that are approximately 30 mins to 1 hr drive from the chateau. Loches is our bigger local town 4 km away. It is a historical citadel town with Chateau and Donjon to visit as well as open markets (2x weekly mornings for local produce), many restaurants, and during August they hold numerous events in the town including theatre, music and midnight markets.

These terms and conditions may be amended from time to time.

Security deposit €1000/£1000. The security deposit is paid before the arrival to the owner and will be refunded in full after departure subject to damage inspection.
Linen & towels included? All linen and towels are included in the rental price.
Tax A tourist tax of €0.80 per adult per night must be paid (deducted from the security deposit)
Energy costs included? Included in the rental price. There may be a charge for the low seasons.
End of stay cleaning included? Yes
Arrival time 4.00 p.m.
Departure time 10.00 a.m.
Pool heating charge? No. The pool is open from April to October. Please note that like all heated pools, pool heating and water temperature are reliant on weather and outside temperatures.
Pets welcome? No
Smoking Allowed? No
Insurance It is recommended that all guests take out insurance to cover against potential cancellation and any accidental damage caused during your stay at the property.
Changeover day Saturday in high & peak seasons. Flexible otherwise.
Minimum stay 2 nights from 22/09-08/12 and 05/01-13/04. For the rest of the dates the minimum stay is 7 nights.

How long have you owned the property?
Our home was built for the family by my forefathers, I am the 5th generation of ownership, and it was built in circa 1820 and has since remained in the family.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
The grounds are extensive with 10 acres of parkland.

Really do?

We are situated 4 miles from the famous, charming Citadelle Town of Loches, it is steeped in history and very beautiful, has many restaurants for visitors with 2 x a week (Wed and Sat) outdoor mornings, fresh local produce market, not to be missed!

Really eat?
The area/region is well known for its local wines, Chinon, Saumur, Vouvray, Sancerre, just to name a few.

Really see?
The many famous Chateaux are only 30-60 minutes’ drive, i.e. Chennonceaux, Chambord, Cheverny, Loches and many more.

What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?

The chateau is perfectly placed in the Loire Valley, it offers beauty, tranquillity, peace and very private.  The rooms are well appointed, spacious and tastefully decorated.  It is truly a comfortable, gracious home from home in style, our guests have left many compliments which we thrive on and happy to share.

    Wonderful owners who are friendly and very helpful. The ambiance of the chateau is great. Inside, it is very comfortable and clean with beautiful large bedrooms. The views are amazing! WOW! We were served delicious breakfasts. Nobody wanted to leave!
