Overview of Chateau Le Brun

What Oliver loves…

  • The owner of this stunning property is a wonderful artist and her colourful and quirky work is displayed throughout.
  • There is an incredible den and living area built into the rafters of the chateau which makes a really great entertaining space (especially for youngsters).
  • Don't forget your fishing rod! At Chateau Le Brun, you've essentially got your own private park to enjoy, complete with lake and your own mini forest.
  • The nearby village of Brinon-sur-Sauldre is two minutes walk from the chateau gates - it's stunningly beautiful and has some sumptuous eateries and shops.
  • The local village butcher provides excellent catering and a delivery service, with meals starting from just two euros per head.
  • From time to time, the owner will be on site and would be delighted to offer any help. Living in a separate building, your privacy won't be affected!

What you should know…

  • Chateau Le Brun isn't completely detached, but with a private entrance, garden and swimming pool you need never see the neighbours - your complete privacy is guaranteed.

Take a step back into French history as you enter the 17th century Chateau Le Brun, originally a hunting lodge owned by Chancellor Seguier, Minister of Finances under Louis XIII and Louis XIV.

Now it's the home of a delightful and talented artist who swapped her high flying city life for her easel. Her fabulous artwork is exhibited around the property to be enjoyed by her guests, as well as her warm welcome.

This private family property is surrounded by a luscious 52 acre park and offers guests 6 spacious bedrooms, each with its own private bathroom. The chateau itself is located in a typical Sologne Village next to the Loire River, and this famous area is home to other beautiful chateaux such as Chambord and Cheverny.

Guests at the chateau have their own sizeable private heated swimming pool, next to which you'll find an outdoor dining space for 18, the barbecue and luxurious padded sun loungers. It's a property guaranteed to seduce guests with its cool, arty ambiance and welcoming comfort.

Interior & Grounds

Ground Floor

There is a living room, complete with comfortable seating for 15 people. The fact that the chateau deliberately eschews a formal dining room with 12 dining chairs reinforces its laid back philosophy, ensuring mealtimes don't become a stuffy formality. The equipped Brick kitchen (hob, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, coffee machine and dishwasher) seats up to 10. There are patio doors opening up onto a lovely terrace. You'll also find a WC and a utility room with washing machine, fridge and a cabinet with boots and pool chair cushions. At the back, there's a TV room with a LCD flat screen cable TV. There are also two en-suite bedrooms, perfect for the elderly: one has a double bed with twin mattresses, shower with a small chair, single washbasin, hairdryer, toilet, fireplace and patio doors. The other has a kingsize bed, jacuzzi with handheld shower and single washbasin.

First Floor

The first floor is accessed by the original staircase and is where you'll find the chateau's further 4 bedrooms (two of which are en-suite) plus a further shared bathroom with shower, sink and WC.

The master suite on this floor overlooks the grounds and contains a double bed with twin mattresses and en-suite bathroom containing a large and luxurious bath with hydro-massage shower, two single washbasins, toilet and hairdryer. Adjoining this is a twin room, making this part of the chateau perfect for a family who wants to stay close together! A further double bedroom with queen bed, en-suite bathroom (with hydro-massage shower, two single washbasins and toilet) overlooking the swimming pool and another twin room with shower and single washbasin complete the sleeping accommodation on this floor.

Top Floor

Though not officially part of the rental, the top floor acts as a great space for kids to play, surrounded by the owner's beautiful artwork. Just make sure the kids don't hog it - it's a charming and relaxing space for guests of any age to hang out!

Pool Area

There is a private fenced and electrically heated rectangular pool with rounded steps at the end (size: 16x15m / depth: 1-2.30 m) surrounded by a beautiful poolside terrace.

Barbecue Area

There is a built-in barbecue with a wooden table for 12 people and a covered dining area.

Park

Guests are free to roam around the 52 acre park with centennial trees that is shared with the owner's brother and sisters. The glorious park is ideal for children to play in, with lovely walks for adults and an exciting playground for fishermen, thanks to the huge pond and 1 km of private riverside!

Reviews for Chateau Le Brun

Chateau Le Brun Reviews

  • Amazing week-long stay at Chateau Le Brun

Posted by Elizabeth J on 25/07/2016

We had a wonderful experience at Chateau Le Brun. The host Maria was very welcoming and helpful. She bought cheese, bread and refreshments for our arrival and made restaurant reservations for us. We loved the chateau with its huge rooms and interesting artwork. We enjoyed walking into the village. However, during the week, there is not much going on. From Brinon, we toured Chateaux Chambord and Chenonceau and the cities of Blois and Amboise, which were about an hour and 30 minutes away. We would relax by the pool one day and then going touring the next. One day, we went horseback riding in Brinon which the kids loved. It was a great stay and we'd love to come back.

  • Our chateau family

    Posted by Dorsburn on 14/05/2015

Our stay at the chateau was great. It is easy to spend a couple days relaxing at the chateau or just using is as a base camp while exploring other towns and sights in the area. We decided to have dinner at the chateau on our first night: an amazing traditional meal, which we had after first settling in and chatting around the fireplace. After dinner and over breakfast we were given such great suggestions on how to potentially spend the limited time in the area. We also walked around the grounds one morning after breakfast. The accommodation is great, and it made our trip to the area even more amazing and memorable.

  • Summer in France

    Posted by Robert on 25/11/2014

This was an incredible stay for our family. The owners, were very friendly (like family) and very informative. We could not have been treated any better. All of the recommendations were perfect. The Chateau is magnificent. The location is very convenient. We had a great time buying local wines, coming back to the Chateau , and sharing them. We drove to Paris one day. We were told just where to go, and how to get there. We avoided traffic, and even parked easily. If I could, I would be back there now. Loved every minute.

  • Exceptional hosts and a great place to stay

Posted by Richard D on 24/11/2014

The perfect hosts, prepared to accommodate adults and children with generosity and understanding. The Kir Royales were most welcome after our stressful journey!

We had been forced to travel seven hours apart when one of our cars broke down in the UK. Two of the adults and one child arrived after midnight but the owners waited up, advised on travel routes and provided a welcome supper for the late-comers!

We were fortunate to have all three rooms at relatively short notice, each one comfortable and spacious. The château is beautiful and the park ideal for children to run free after hours in a car. Château le Brun was an ideal stop-over for us and a wonderful start to our French holiday.

  • Escape to the Loire Valley

    Posted by Sean on 03/10/2014

Our family spent 7 wonderful days at Chateau Le Brun. The owners made the stay feel like we were visiting old friends. Their Knowledge of sites and wineries made our trip absolutely perfect. We all loved the trip and can't wait to return.

  • Loved this place and great food too!

Terrific host and hostess. The ambiance and property are gorgeous.

  • Perfect stay with wonderful hosts

Posted by Ottawa Couple on 31/08/2014

We recently returned from a wonderful trip to France, which began with three magical nights at Chateau le Brun. Our room was lovely - large, comfortable and very quiet for sleeping. The lodge itself is wonderful, with beautiful grounds and woods for walking through. But it is really made special by the hosts, who could not have been better. I had mentioned that the trip was to celebrate a special anniversary, and on our arrival we found a chilled bottle of champagne in our room. We enjoyed it sitting outside, followed by a truly exceptional dinner prepared by the host. I had read the reviews, but still was not prepared for just how wonderful a cook the host is! And what lovely, warm and generous hosts! Every meal - that incredible dinner, and breakfasts each morning - was made particularly special by wonderful conversation. And through the windows, we could see deer walking through the grounds! The Chateau is an excellent base for exploring the chateaux and towns in the Loire, and the hosts were so very helpful with advice as we planned our days. We had rented a car and found it very easy to get anywhere we wanted. We would absolutely return, both to the Loire and to Chateau le Brun . A wonderful, memorable holiday!

  • Beautiful property, gracious hosts, an unforgettable stay!

Posted by Julia Q on 26/08/2014

A friend and I were fortunate enough to stop here while traveling through Europe and it was without a doubt my favorite part of our trip. The property and grounds were amazing, it was like I was a BBC period piece and I kept expecting a carriage to pull up the driveway with Marie Antoinette inside. Food was fantastic and the dinners were full of laughter and great conversation about French history, society, etc. The hosts escorted us across the French countryside to see chateaux, wineries, small mountainside towns and more. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an authentic experience of the paysage français, and hope that I will be able to come back someday myself!

  • Charming Chateau

    Posted by Irene on 01/08/2014

Historic chateau is charming and very comfortable located in a very lovely setting. But the real treat is the warmth and friendliness of owners. The gourmet meals were wonderful. Irene is a fabulous cook. We talked and laughed for hours at the table every evening and morning. They took us to a delightful local festival put on by the town that should not be missed. We couldn't have had a better time.

  • A place to come back again

Posted by Sergey D on 18/07/2014

We spent one night at Chateau le Brun in October. This was the first stop on our route to Perigord and it turned out an excellent beginning of a journey. I had never visited Chateau le Brun before but my wife (we were travelling without kids this time) had passed here several nights three years earlier. For both of us this was a magnificent experience.

The hosts are fantastic and we enjoyed the evening with them greatly.

The house is great - old and atmospheric. On the ground floor, there is a lovely sitting room with armchairs, a sofa and a fire place. We had the pleasure of occupying the biggest guest room ("Peach"), really nice and with windows opening onto the park. Our bed was king size, really large - my height is over 1m90cm and I had plenty of room to stretch the legs. The en suite bathroom was very spacious and comfortable, and immaculately appointed.

A hearty breakfast was waiting us in the morning. The meal passed accompanied by a friendly chat and we had great difficulty pushing ourselves outside by noon to continue our voyage. There is a lovely park right outside the house and we strolled there a little before saying 'good bye'.

We like to travel and we have been in many different places so we can compare. Chateau le Brun is really something outstanding for us. One of the places we do want to come back again.

  • The only place to stay

    Posted by anonymous on 10/07/2014

After a year off from the bedlam of 'La Motte', my son and I returned this year. Charming location, charming people, excellent food, fine wine. Livery just up the road. Friendly village bar a stumble away. And I still haven't visited the grounds. Next year's treat.
