Whether you’re a couple seeking a peaceful getaway in the Dordogne or a family looking for plenty of features to keep the children happy, this 18th century villa enjoys such a beautiful setting high above the rolling French countryside.
Appreciate La Closerie’s classic ambience with stone walls and simple, rustic furnishings. The owners have also renovated certain parts of the house for their guests' comfort. The older and original part of the house features a living area with air-conditioning, a kitchen (via two steps) as well as three upstairs bedrooms (one with twin beds, two with queen-size doubles) and a bathroom. Next door, a newer 2-bedroom wing with air-conditioning is a possible alternative for a couple or small group at certain times of year.
Indeed, there are various options when renting La Closerie, depending on the time of year and number of guests. Outside the high/peak season, a 4-person rate is possible in which case you could choose to stay in either the newer 2-bedroom wing or the original 3-bedroom house. The newer wing features a pretty living-dining and kitchen area and terrace, a ground-floor twin and small shower room alongside a spacious upstairs bedroom with queen-size double and modern bathroom.
For larger groups however, the 8-person rate includes the original part of the house alongside the upstairs air-conditioned bedroom in the newer wing (in this case the newer wing's downstairs is closed). However many guests, rest assured that La Closerie remains exclusively for you (and is never rented out to other guests at the same time).
Outside, soak up the summer sun on the loungers by the swimming pool (that can be heated for a supplement) and dine al-fresco on the stone terrace looking over the vast gardens. Younger guests will also adore the indoor games in the older house as well as the play area in the garden. Meanwhile, grown-ups will appreciate the sauna that has been recently added.
Set off on a hike - there’s no shortage of beautiful paths here on the edge of the rural village of Grèzes. In nearby Terrasson-Lavilledieu, around 7km away, you’ll find the Gardens of the Imagination - a beautiful 13-part landscape installment presenting mankind’s transition from nature to city life. Also convenient to Terrasson are restaurants, cafes, a cinema, and supermarket.
Further afield, a day trip to Périgueux is worth your while. This medieval town hosts a daily market where you’ll find the delicacies of the Dordogne, most notably foie gras and truffles. Even closer, if you fly in through Brive-la-Gaillarde, stay a while! The locals exude "Gaillarde" - lusty, robust good humour.
