Woodland Retreat is situated in the tranquil village of Ahakista, the sleepy seaside village is home to two pubs, Arundels by the Pier and The Tin Pub, both are within walking distance of the home. Every August bank holiday weekend, Ahakista Regatta draws a large number of visitors in to the area and features a quiz hosted by the TV personality and Author, Graham Norton. On the edge of Ahakista is a Memorial Garden dedicated to those who died in the Air India terrorist attack in 1985. The market town of Bantry, which is home to a variety of shops and restaurants, is conveniently located just a 20-minute drive away. Be sure to visit Bantry on Fridays for market day where you will find excellent local artisan food on sale!
The home is ideal for keen walkers, one of the most popular routes is the Sheep’s Head Way walk, a 93km trail which starts in Bantry and ends at Sheep’s Head Peninsula. Here you’ll find the Sheep’s Head lighthouse and stunning views northwards across Bantry bay – some lucky individuals may even spot dolphins or whales! For those short on time, it is possible to drive most of the route too.
