Puggiestone is an exquisite country manor house with a tremendous indoor heated swimming pool set within beautiful gardens. Boasting magnificent bucolic views from its elevated position on the outskirts of the gorgeous up market village of Chagford within the popular Dartmoor National Park. An elegant contemporary style has been achieved by combining hip and elegant minimalist décor with high quality furnishings throughout.

Entering through the classical front door, the welcoming hallway leads through to the delightfully airy and spacious living room. Comfortable soft furnishings abound, and the configuration is set up to showcase the incredible vista afforded from the large glass sliding doors leading out to both the beautifully manicured gardens and an attractive courtyard with seating and adjacent to the indoor pool house. The large open plan kitchen / diner is luxuriously equipped, and a cleverly designed wall to ceiling glass corner allows gorgeous views out over the garden. We are sure that many an hour will be spent here admiring the views whilst rustling up your meals. The seven eye-catching bedrooms are all designed and furnished to the highest of standards, with the master en suite bedroom boasting its own dressing area, bath tub, shower and twin hand basins.

Appealing and attractive, the outdoor areas are equally extravagant and are sure to be the focal point of your stay here, with a vast expanse of woodland, a lengthy stretch of the river Teign with private fishing rights and acres upon acres of lovely tended grass to play on. There is plenty of space for alfresco dining with a barbecue area conveniently located close to the lovely outdoor seating area, making for long, sociable and fun evenings under the unpolluted sky. For those visiting in the warmer months of the year, we are sure that the shed (tree house!) will become a popular place to chill out in the late afternoon/early evening, with its floor to ceiling glass windows and wrap-around decked balcony making you feel like you are in the tree tops. This has to be the most perfect spot for a relaxing G&T and a chat with good friends. The inviting indoor private swimming pool with sauna, seating and TV can be found in the glass fronted pool house to one side of the colourful courtyard. We are sure that many an early morning will be spent here burning the calories before another day of over indulgence!

Within the gorgeous village of Chagford there is a great choice of country pubs to wine and dine including a michelin starred restaurant, all within walking distance. Puggiestone is sure to become a firm favourite amongst our most discerning of clientele.

What you should know…

  • As beautiful as the gardens are, they are not great for people with walking difficulties, as much of the gardens are on a slope and can be slippery when wet
  • Puggiestone is not a suitable house for families with very young children, as the river can be fast flowing during the winter months and is not fenced off
  • Although pets are allowed, please note that this is restricted to 2 small dogs at the owners discretion

  • 100% going to come back to stay again at this very special house

    Created on 20/02/2020

Brought the family over from Dubai for an English holiday and what a lucky find, ‘Puggiestone’! My two young daughters enjoyed the indoor pool, my wife loved the luscious West Country garden and moorland walks and I particularly enjoyed the extraordinarily large kitchen. Could even watch the family fun in the garden while cooking.

  • When can we come back?

    Posted by Antonia on 28/01/2020

Awesome is the only word to use for this place. The tastefully, yet unusually decorated house itself is luxurious and comfortable, in a stunning setting with gorgeous views down to the river. Even the swimming pool room evokes emotions that make it hard to leave the picturesque charm of Puggiestone. Venture into the local village Chagford for provisions and make sure you stock up from the friendly local butcher whose bacon goes down a treat after a country walk in the woods, all sorts of pasties from the bakery and classic West Country ‘homity pies’ from Blacks the deli (yep, this Devon village has it all – dairy, off licence, bakery, pubs, florist and all manner of shops) and you’ll have a fine time here. One question tho. When can we come back?

  • Wonderful

    Posted by Angela on 02/01/2020

We had such a wonderful time at Puggiestone, ‘The best Christmas ever’, according to my son, who tells me he is the only child in his class who was swimming on Christmas day. Twice! We loved every minute. The house was spotless on arrival – even my very particular mother was impressed. The whole place felt welcoming and gorgeously decorated for Christmas. Puggiestone’s grounds are incredible. The rainy weather meant we (happily) made more use of the pool than the garden but, when it cleared up, there was always somewhere interesting to explore outdoors. It was nice not to have to drive away to enjoy such beautiful natural surroundings.

  • Perfection!

Posted by Mrs Murray on 19/11/2019

What a wonderful choice for a truly relaxing, peaceful time in the most beautiful setting overlooking sweeping lawns and a fresh gushing river. This large appealing house is decorated in a sophisticated, contemporary style with a variety of warm, comfortable places to sit and a kitchen containing everything a keen chef would require. The heated pool is a treat! Great detail….large beds and lovely linen. Good views. Also good for walking and Chagford nearby. Perfection!

  • Beautiful!

    Posted by Malcolm on 31/08/2018

Beautiful house in fabulous location. The grounds were stunning. The house had lots of character , lots of space, excellent library, lounge and rooms all decorated and furnished to a high standard. Louisa and her team were extremely welcoming and helpful . The indoor swimming pool and sauna are very good. The house is an excellent base to tour Dartmoor and the nearby town of Chagford has some very good pubs and restaurants.

  • Really Excellent

    Posted by Iris on 17/07/2018

The house, pool and gardens are all excellent. Narrow lanes tricky but it's the countryside!

  • Thoroughly Enjoyable

  • Wonderful!

    Posted by Hamdi on 09/01/2018

It is a very nice house, everyone loved it . Very children and dog friendly place . Very helpful property manager. There were few teething problems , but they were dealt with promptly regardless of weekend or outside of working our hours. We would consider going back.

  • Great for the Family

    Posted by Anthony on 17/09/2017

Very good house and garden. The swimming poolis excellent and great fun for all the family.

  • The house is beautiful!

    Created on 20/03/2017

My family and I stayed in Puggiestone House over the first weekend of march 2017 for my mum's 50th birthday.
The first thing I would like to say is that the experience from start to finish was fantastic. Once I made the booking I was put in touch with Louisa the property manager, she was beyond helpful. As we were celebrating a milestone birthday there I wanted it to be special but living in London I wasn't able to do it myself. There was nothing that was too much for Louisa, she decorated the house while we went for lunch, put me in touch with a chef who come to the house and cooked a 3 course dinner and she even collected the cake from the cake shop. We were in constant communication prior to our stay, which reassured me that everything was going to be just the way I wanted it. Not only did you she do everything to help prepare for the celebration, she made sure the stay would be hassle free for me with my 9 month old son. There was a cot, high chair, bath seat and changing mat all ready for use. She even set the temperature in the pool a little higher than normal so my son could enjoy the pool too. It's the small touches that make a big difference.
I can't fault our stay at all, if we had a query while we were there Louisa was always on the other end of the phone or happy to pop over if we required any assistance with anything.
The house is beautiful, that with the exceptional service provide by the property manager made our stay one to remember for all the right reasons.

  • What an amazing place

Posted by N Hunter on 26/08/2016

What an amazing place, we absolutely loved the funky ‘shed’ (the tree house), a wonderful spot for a sundowner amongst the trees, and we loved playing down at the river attempting to catch fish for dinner. The indoor swimming pool was a highlight for morning exercise and the house was simply amazing. Can’t wait to go back. Oh, and the local pubs are brilliant! NH
