In the quaint, peaceful village of Kayaköy, 8km south of Fethiye, you’ll find Villa Alev. This beautiful area is known for its traditional restaurants, ancient ruins and its calm and quiet atmosphere. Along with its beautiful backdrop of the mountains, this village offers beauty and much to explore and experience!
Kayaköy has the famous Ghost Village which offers some spectacular ruins to explore, enjoyed by children and adults alike. From the ghost village you can walk down to the remote Cold Water Bay. This beach is family-friendly with soft sand and a cold bay that may be perfect for you on a hot day. Additionally, you can explore the forest nearby that has been used as a movie set in the past. Following exploration of the Ghost Village and a dip in the sea at Cold Water Bay, you can then head to any of the traditional shops and restaurants to enjoy some delicious food. The mountains also offer great walking trails so you can immerse yourself in nature.
With Fethiye and Oludeniz being nearby, you can easily make a day trip out by exploring the nearby cities. Oludeniz offers some beautiful beaches such as the Blue Lagoon and Butterfly Valley, both of which are stunning with lovely waters perfect for swimming in. Butterfly Valley is also a nature reserve where there are many species of butterfly that you may be able to see! Oludeniz is a relatively calm location for a day trip. But if you want a livelier holiday or a colourful nightlife, then head to Hisaronu which has a great selection of clubs and disco bars along with restaurants. Fethiye offers further chances at exploring ancient sites, and it’s recommended that you visit the old quarter! The rock Tomb of Amyntas is also located in Fethiye and is a popular site to see.
The Region
The "Ghost Town" of Kayaköy was once inhabited by a substantial Greek Orthodox Christian; Artisans who left for Greece in the populations exchange 1923. Many of the old stone houses have been brought back to life and the village is again alive. There is a bohemian feel and a mix of restaurants cater for those enjoying the healthy village air. The cute beach at Gemiler is the closest place for sea swimming here. The area was the inspiration for Louis de Bernieres’ novel Birds Without Wings. Whilst here do try the local Gozleme pancakes.
Local days out include the resort of Gocek along the coast, Tlos ancient site and the Saklikent Gorge. Slightly further afield are Dalyan or going south, Patara for its sandy beach and ruins.
