Villa Hacivat is an über-contemporary, light-filled villa set just a short distance from the charming Kalkan harbour, offering airy accommodation for ten, with access to both buzzing nightlife and traditional Turkish life.

Set within its own impeccable grounds, this slick home is characterised by modernist interiors and unfussy spaces with enormous glass floor-to-ceiling panels optimising the views and natural light.

Set across three storeys, this stylish pad is ideal for families or friends to enjoy the Kalkan harbour, with the privacy of an independent home and chic alfresco living. The linear, minimalist exterior offers an interplay between indoor and outdoor living, with a large terrace overlooking views of the harbour, dazzling pool with infinity edge, Grecian steps and glass balustrades. Setting the scene for sumptuous barbecues in the balmy air softened by sea breezes, with coral-pink sunsets, this is a sleek entertainment space whether it be for rocking pool parties or family gatherings.

A state-of-the-art kitchen offers top-grade fittings, glossy surfaces and industrial accents with steely greys, vibrant whites and in-set lighting for a warm-lit wash over the shared areas. Set up with open-plan dining for eight with sublime views at every turn, this chic home has an upbeat air of informality and vivacious styling.

The super-inviting lounge is finessed with neutral tones and accents of soft mauve, setting the scene for those downtime moments at the end of a busy day. With ample space for the whole family to spread out, this impeccable home doesn’t miss a trick when it comes to comfort.

The bedrooms are spread across the three floors, with two twin rooms and a double on the first and the magnificent master on the top complete with its full-length terrace. Polished with all the elegance of a boutique hotel, each of the bedrooms has individual accents of colour, from marina blue to sunset amber.

Villa Hacivat is a contemporary haven of quality, style and elegance, just moments from some of Kalkan’s hotspots, nestled in a tranquil spot with harbour views and the mountain backdrop.

Villa Hacivat is nestled just one and a half miles from the centre of Kalkan, and circa one mile from the town’s charming harbour along with its beaches and gulets (traditional wooden sailing boats.) Originally a local town of winding cobbled lanes and traditional sea-food restaurants, today Kalkan is a bustling town with colourful markets, upmarket bars and restaurants as well as charming boutiques and artisanal fare.

An array of family restaurants are set up with roof-tops for dining under the stars, one of the most spectacular being Villa Mahal, considered by Condé Nast as one of the most romantic on the Mediterranean, with tables just inches from the azure waters. Botanik is a more bohemian traveller style spot, complete with hammocks and treehouses.

With the truly majestic Taurus Mountains as a backdrop, visitors can access charming little white-washed mountain villages, as well a network of treks and biking trails. Whether it be chartering a boat for a day’s touring finished with a sea-food meal, or a spot of indulgence at one of the town’s spas, to cocktails at one of the upscale beach clubs, Kalkan is a magnetic town that draws visitors back again and again.

A water lover’s paradise, from para-sailing to diving, from white water rafting to canoeing, or wading through the cool water of Saklikent gorge,  the Kalkan beaches offer something for everyone. While archaeology lovers will enjoy the sunset remains at Kekova, or perhaps a leisurely boat trip via the half-submerged ruins with a stop off at Simena’s Ottoman castle en route.

Kalkan

Kalkan has become boutique resorts, with cobbled streets and converted Greek houses, which belonged to the Greek merchants before the exchange of population in the 1920’s. Once quiet fishing harbours these days you are more likely to see traditional wooden gulets taking tourists to soak up rays on the sparkling turquoise Mediterranean. A boat trip is a must do, from the boat you can snorkel and usually a delicious lunch is prepared on board. Keen walkers should check out the Lycian way for designated walking paths in the area.

You cannot come to this area without spending  some time exploring the many Lycian sights, such as Xanthos, Patara, Myra or the sunken city of Kekova.

Patara is said to be where democracy started (they excavated stone voting block) and is also said to be the birthplace of St Nicholas, who became bishop at nearby Myra. The ruins here include an ancient theatre, city walls, government build and agora. The lighthouse on the site is said to be the earliest of its kind. Visit Patara in the late afternoon and finish the trip with a drink on the sandy beach watching the amazing sunset.

The Salikent Gorge is a great place to visit, especially if you want to cool off in the fresh waters whilst walking up the gorge. For the more energetic there are rafts and rings to ride the flowing waters. Further down you can enjoy a day canoeing toward the beach.

Islamlar sits 8 km above Kalkan. Once the place Kalkan folk went to cool off at one of the trout farms built to make use of the mountain’s springs. Today Islamlar houses many a villa, enjoyed by Istanbul Turks who prefer a holiday in slightly cooler and cleaner air. Here the locals grow grapes and pomegranates, but you’ll mainly see the men sat gossiping next to the local teahouse. The trout farms remain a place to come for a wonderful fresh meal, or a breakfast consisting of fresh local fare. The rocket will be the freshest & most tasty you’ve ever had; and the fresh chips cooked in olive oil take some beating.

By night both Kalkan and Kas come alive. Kas has more of a bohemian feel, people ambling through the cobbled streets, passing the ancient tomb in the street, haggling for textiles, carpets and other goodies, maybe stopping for the traditional Turkish ‘maras’ ice cream, a tulip-shaped glass of tea or a wonderful kebab in the shadow of the mosque. Most of the villas in Kas are just out of town on the Cukurbag Peninsula. A reasonable (5km) taxi or Dolmus (local bus) ride into town. Be sure to try the Piyaz, a white bean salad with tahini sauce.

Travelling along the coast, towards Kalkan you pass the modern marina, the children’s beach park (run by the local hotel school) and halfway to Kalkan the stunning Kaputas Beach, cut in a gorge with all different shades of turquoise in the sea.

Kalkan is a more sophisticated resort, with the villas built onto the mountainside. Evening are spent enjoying the rooftop restaurants, perched on the top of the old ‘konak’ houses. Then wandering to a seaside bar for a cocktail, after shopping for glass lanterns, Iznik pottery, handbags or pestemel towel. Do visit the ‘pastane’, local patisseries which do the most delicious morning pastries and you must try the ‘Gozleme’ pancakes at the Thursday market.

Other things to do in the area include scuba diving as the visibility is excellent, paragliding, horseriding on Patara Beach or kayaking around the sunken ruins at Kekova.

Kids

Villa Hacivat offers a vibrant and airy home with abundant space for families with children, complete with pool and outdoor dining space. Çocuklar (children) are much loved in Turkish culture, and they will be welcome wherever they go. There is also an indoor pool so perfect for swimming away from the midday sun.

Among our pick for families, is a day out on a traditional wooden gület - this is a superior way to enjoy the full beauty of the Turquoise Coast, with time for a swim and a sea-food lunch on board. Or, an exciting trip for little ones would be a sun-set cruise as the stars pepper the clear skies.

Water sports enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice, with options for kayaking to paddle-boarding and jet-skiing. A kayak trip along the Esen River from Xanthos to Patara Beach, will delight them with the stretch of 12km of soft white sand, (alternatively, Patara beach can be reached in just 15 minutes from Kalkan.)

Reviews

  • Amazing

    on 01/10/2023

Amazing villa and amazing stay. Very great recommendations by our host as well. Thank you for such a memorable stay for my 40th birthday with my friends.

  • Fabulous views and modern spacious villa

    on 06/06/2023

Beautiful modern property with en-suites to every room - pool was great - didn’t use second indoor pool - views were outstanding, great outdoor seating - owner really helpful with local information.

  • Nice and private

    on 12/04/2023

The villa was every bit as nice as it looked in the pictures with fantastic views over the bay. It's also pretty private, there are other properties on both sides but you don't get direct line of sight to them from most rooms and parts of the pool area. The host was very responsive and friendly and made arrangements to accommodate our middle of the night arrival and departure. All the facilities were in working order and clean. Well equipped kitchen and a wood/coal burning bbq were really nice as we cooked most of our meals there. There's a bbq-galore type of shop at the bottom of the street that leads to the village and a few shops with fresh meat/vegetables/bread a stone throw from it.
