Live like a local with a stay at the charming Villa Aralik, in the village of Islamlar, above the holiday hotspot of Kalkan on the Mediterranean Turquoise coast. This beautiful stone cottage-style villa has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and can comfortably accommodate up to four guests. Ideal for a small family holiday, or two couples sharing, and perfect for a romantic honeymoon just made for two. Located in the natural setting of the hills of Kalkan, the villa occupies its own plot surrounded by tall pine trees and olive groves as old as time itself. Decorated with locally made craftsman wooden furniture, and painted in classic Mediterranean white, with cornflower blue highlights, this villa is a real home from home.

Small but perfectly formed, the ground floor has a furnished entrance hall, with a L-shaped comfy blue sofa, coffee table, and modern free-standing lamps. There is a bedroom with a large double bed, dressed in crisp white linens and sea blues accessories, with French windows leading to the garden and pool terrace, and an ensuite shower room. Take the central stairs to an open plan living area, furnished with a blue sofa, wooden side and coffee tables, a flat screen television, and an open fire for the cooler months and evenings. Billowing white curtains drape over louvred shuttered windows, and French doors give access to a balcony with table and chairs. A small kitchen with traditional wooden doors, wraps around the stone wall, fully equipped with everything you will need for a happy holiday. On this open plan level you will also find the second sleeping area, a double bed made up of vivacious aqua and turquoise tones; this sumptuous home offers guests a chance to escape the strains of urban living and drop the tempo. Simplicity is married with comfort at Villa Aralik.

The outside space is where you will be spending most of your time, home to an impressive natural salt water panoramic infinity pool, enjoy a few lengths before a yummy breakfast. Mesh sunbeds with shady parasols surround the pool, with a scattering of pastel pink cushions and bean bags on which to wallow in the sunshine. There is an elevated Ottoman seating area, and an ancient cedar tree, the perfect place to unwind with some holiday reading. The double level garden is surrounded by tall trees, giving the space a sense of privacy, seclusion and natural shade. A chestnut dining table cut from one piece of wood seats four guests, where you can dine alfresco as the sunsets and count the twinkling stars.

Villa Aralik is a short distance from Islamlar's pretty centre. Within a few miles visitors will be able to access cafes, supermarkets and restaurants. The two closest airports are only eight and ten miles away respectively.

Whether it be beaches, the Salikent National Park, or the Berzigan Plateau, this is a region of stunning and varied natural beauty. Islamlar is in the foothills of the Taurus Mountains, yet close to local restaurants, for a blend of rural beauty along with traditional small town Turkey. The village provides an insight into rural Turkish life which has remained unchanged for generations. Full of olive groves and vineyards and where the flour for the bakery is still ground using an old water-powered millstone. The region is known for its trout farm restaurants
Kalkan and the beaches are only about fifteen minutes distance, whilst the local restaurants serve authentic Turkish food using locally produced organic ingredients.

Away from the glitzy resorts and the bustle of the tourists, Islamlar offers refreshing retreat, being slightly cooler than at sea level; city dwellers head to the Islamlar restaurants for respite from the heat, whilst the region is a natural choice for walkers with the famous Lycian Way.

For more classic resort style amenities, Kalkan offers well-heeled restaurants, smart boutiques for shopping, as well as long stretches of sandy beaches with clear waters. Whether it be boat trips, water sports or mooching around local markets, Kalkan has abundant options for visitors to soak up the local flavour whilst enjoying a taste of authentic Turkey.

Islamlar

Islamlar sits 8 km above Kalkan. Once the place Kalkan folk went to cool off at one of the trout farms built to make use of the mountain’s springs. Today Islamlar houses many a villa, enjoyed by Istanbul Turks who prefer a holiday in slightly cooler and cleaner air. Here the locals grow grapes and pomegranates, but you’ll mainly see the men sat gossiping next to the local teahouse. The trout farms remain a place to come for a wonderful fresh meal, or a breakfast consisting of fresh local fare. The rocket will be the freshest & most tasty you’ve ever had; and the fresh chips cooked in olive oil take some beating.

The open plan and lateral spaces are ideal for family life, whilst children will sleep soundly after enjoying the sun, outdoors and surrounding nature.

Villa Aralik is lovely, it's great to have a saltwater pool, instead of chlorine

  • Enjoy this lovely house!

    on 21/04/2023

We are independent travellers who have had the good fortune to be in this area 6 times now and twice at this beautiful house. Please let us recommend the unassuming restaurant Pinar Basi - on the left going down the hill before the village "square". Recommend: village cheese in butter to start (one between 2! trust me). Trout and mixed salad (a MUST!) maybe chips and finally do try the baked helva (again one between two). This and a bottle of Angora Red will set you back around £25. We ate there at least 3 times in a week!
Kas is a lovely place to visit for an eve. Gorgeous drive around 6:30 - 7pm - takes half an hour.
Recommend Restaurant Iqbal (or Ikbal) - up a steep road in the corner of the square and turn right. Delicious lamb shish. Very good quality meat here and well cooked.
Enjoy this lovely house - happy holidays!
