Overview
You get the best of both worlds when you holiday in the mountain view Villa Kemal, perfectly positioned in the charming village of Ovacik, between the holiday hot spot of Olu Deniz and the cosmopolitan town of fabulous Fethiye, on Turkey’s Turquoise coast. This imposing three-storey, detached villa has three spacious ensuite bedrooms and can comfortably accommodate up to eight guests, ideal for a large family holiday or friends’ get-together. The villa is set in its own high-fenced grounds, enclosing lawned gardens with ancient olive trees and a private swimming pool. Villa Kemal is constructed out of classic Mediterranean whitewashed walls, with floor-to-ceiling glass windows that let in lots of natural light and cooling breezes and open onto the gardens and mountain view balconies. The interiors are contemporary, furnished with modern minimalism, in a soothing colour palette of grey shades and beige tones.
Enter the villa at the ground floor level to be welcomed by a bright and breezy open-plan living space. The seating area has two comfy sofas and a coffee table worked around a flat-screen smart television. The galley-style kitchen is fully equipped with all the latest appliances you will need for your holiday, including that must-have morning coffee maker. A six-seater dining set is situated in the double-height atrium, making it a super spot for some impressive entertaining. A guest cloakroom completes the ground floor. Take the stairs to the first floor, where you will find two large bedrooms with double beds, fitted wardrobes, ensuite bathrooms with walk-in showers, and mountain view balconies. The upper floor is home to a family bedroom, with a double bed, two single beds, lots of fitted wardrobe space, an ensuite marble shower room, and a large mountain view balcony that runs the width of the villa.
The grounds are delightful, enclosed by high fencing for privacy and security, and home to well-maintained lawns and gardens with tall shady trees. A private swimming pool takes pride of place, with an inset shallow pool for the kids. The pool is surrounded by sun loungers with parasols and a swing chair to sway the day away. As the sun sets, meet at the soft seating area for a cocktail or two, and dine on the local delicacies under a twinkling Turkish sky.

- The third bedroom on the upper floor is very spacious, it’s also under the eaves and may be challenging for tall people.

Fethiye
Situated on the ancient city of Telmessos, Fethiye is named after one of its most famous ‘sons’, the aviator Fethi Bey. An earthquake in 1957 damaged central Fethiye, so many of its buildings have been built since then. You can, however, see a Lycian theatre, Lycian tombs (including the rock tomb of Amyntas) and visit the Fethiye museum for more history and artefacts. The centre of Fethiye boasts a covered market area, half of which is given over to the local fish market where you can choose your catch from one of the centre stalls and then get it cooked in any of the surrounding restaurants. The whole of the area is shadowed by the mountain of Babadag where paragliders take to the skies, landing on the beach at Olu Deniz.
Fethiye’s Tuesday market is worth a visit. Traders come from the outlying villages to sell the wares from their smallholdings. Furrowed browed men with cloth caps, and ladies in floral bloomers will sell their produce amongst the lads trying to get you to buy their designer fakes! It’s all in good humour. Try a little bartering and see if you can do some good business. Go to the spice stall and you will get some amazing spices. Look for the Kar Serbeti, like a cinnamon slush or Ayran, a salty yoghurt drink both guaranteed to cool you down.
Olu Deniz & Calis are where people tend to flock for a beach but there are now a few private beach clubs along the coast between Olu Deniz and Fethiye which are worth a visit. There are also beach clubs situated around the lagoon, all with sunbeds, restaurants and drinks service. Hisaronu is more commercialised and hosts a large selection of bars, restaurants and gift shops.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThere’s so much for kids to do when you stay at Villa Kemal. Play in the villa’s private swimming and shallow pools, and there are no set hours when it’s your own. Nearby is the Orka World theme park, enjoy a world of water with lots of slides, splash and play pools, a long lazy river, and the adrenaline-fuelled Rocket. Build sandcastles on the nearby golden sandy beaches of Olu Deniz, with lots of fabulous beach clubs that give easy access into the calm, clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea and offer a whole host of water sports activities.
For your daredevils jumping off Babadag Mountain and paragliding down to Olu Deniz beach is the ultimate thrill, for those not so brave, it’s almost as much fun to ride the cable car up the mountain. From Olu Deniz, take the boat to Butterfly Valley, hop aboard the water taxi, and identify over eighty species of butterflies. All aboard for a family favourite Twelve Island boat trip. Visit Saklikent Gorge, and walk down a fast-flowing river to a cooling waterfall.
Discover Dalyan, where you can wallow in mud baths, then sail down the river past ancient rock tombs to Iztuzu, the famous turtle nesting beach. Get on your horse and ride it at the local pony trekking club. Hire quad bikes and go off-road driving. Ride the sand dunes and join a jeep safari, where you can motor around Mugla and see ancient sites and traditional villages. Explore the local ghost village of Kayakoy and meander among the ruins of an abandoned Greek village. Walk part of the Lycian Way to get a flavour of the original Turkey. White water rafting over thirteen cascading kilometres of the Dalaman River may be just the thing for your older kids. The whole family can enjoy a traditional Turkish bath in one of the local hammams.
