Why Visit Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka offers much more than a beach holiday. Eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites cover ancient cities, Buddhist landmarks, Galle Fort and protected natural landscapes, while national parks including Yala and Udawalawe are known for elephants, leopards and rich birdlife. Inland, tea estates cover the cooler highlands and rail routes cut through some of the country’s most impressive scenery. Along the coast, conditions range from surf breaks to sheltered swimming beaches depending on the season. Food is another reason to explore, with rice and curry, hoppers, seafood and kottu among the dishes worth seeking out in local restaurants and markets.

Getting Around

Bandaranaike International Airport, north of Colombo, is Sri Lanka’s main international gateway. Most Oliver’s Travels villas on the Southern Coast are reached by road after arrival, with transfer times depending on how far east you are staying.
