Overview

Spring Offer!
Villa/House Quirky Ideal for Kids Walk to Beach Walk to Village Romantic

Situated on the beach in Portosin, in the Rías Baixas area of northern Galicia, sits this cheerful two-bedroom villa. With direct access to Coira beach, this neat property is the place to come if you’re looking for the sea- you really can’t get much closer to it than this!

Inside, the décor is plain and comfortable. Wood-panelled walls and white beach furnishings create a tranquil ambience in the living room, and it won’t be long before you’re relaxing on the sofa and staring through the huge windows, mesmerised by the views. Handily, the two sofas double up as single beds for children, and there’s also a TV to keep them entertained. Overlooking the lounge is a small kitchen for preparing delicious meals that can be served at the sit-up counter. But for a more inviting dining venue, step through to the covered veranda. Featuring a six-seater table and floor-to-ceiling glass windows, it’s a delightful space. Once you’ve eaten, cosy up with a good book or sit back and watch the surf gently lapping against the shore.

Two double bedrooms can also be found on this floor, and both are a good size. Wood panelling, white linen and marine blue cushions create a soothing atmosphere, while large windows overlook the beach and garden and flood the rooms with plenty of uplifting light. There’s a bathroom with a shower on this floor and an extra bathroom on the lower ground floor.

While the interior is simple, the outdoor setting is sublime. And happily, it’s only a hop and a skip straight from the veranda onto the beach. Spend the day in the surf, build castles on the shore, or explore the coastline in the villa’s kayak. And when you tire of the beach, simply wander back to the villa barefoot, rub the sand from your feet, and enjoy a cool drink in the pretty garden. Alternatively, pull up a sun lounger and enjoy a snooze under a shady tree. When the day starts to draw to a close, light the barbecue, gather the family, and dine al fresco at the outdoor table. Afterwards, you might be tempted to stretch your legs before bed with a walk along the shore. Villa Portosin is ideally placed for beach-lovers, yet it is only a 5-minute walk to the restaurants and shops in the small town of Portosin.

Located on Coira Beach and overlooking Ria de Muros Y Noia, Villa Portosin is ideal for guests who love being close to the sea. The sandy beach is clean with calm waters and is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a swim. There are also a number of eateries dotted along the beach where you can grab a bite to eat. The town of Portosin is a 5-minute walk from the property and is a working fishing village with a small number of shops, restaurants and tapas bars. Portosin also has a private yacht club and harbour and is the closest marina to Santiago de Compostela (Galicia's capital).

Although the surrounding area is wonderfully tranquil, you can learn about the history of the area at Castro de Baroña, a 15-minute drive from the property. The Celtic people who lived in the region from the ninth century BC to the Roman era built distinctive circular structures. At Castro de Baroña, you can view the remains of one of these settlements. History-lovers can also get further information at the Centro de Interpretación do Castro de Barona, a 5-minute drive away in the coastal town of Porto do Son. Porto do Son is also a relaxed spot to linger over a glass of local Albariño wine and a Galician fish dish. Afterwards, relax on the beach or try your hand at surfing at the nearby surf club.

More reminders of the past can be seen in the town of Noia, a 20-minute drive north of the property. Admire the gothic buildings, browse the markets and shops, and then enjoy a coffee in the pretty medieval district. Later, stroll along the long boardwalk and enjoy sweeping views of the bay.

But for a full day of history and culture, make the 30-minute drive inland to the beautiful Santiago de Compostela. Packed with Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Neoclassicist buildings, Santiago is a well-preserved historical city and popular pilgrimage site. Spend the morning meandering through the medieval streets with their gold-tinged monuments and be awe-struck by the stunning Catedral del Apostol. Considered a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture, it also features the remarkable Portico de la Gloria. A whole day can easily be spent exploring Santiago's most famous building, but if you need a breather, head to the leafy Alameda Park. Alternatively, head to Rúa do Franco and enjoy a drink and tapas at one of the many bars dotted along this road.

About the Region & Getting There

About Galicia

Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.

You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!

Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.

Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.

Getting There

Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain. Hop on and enjoy the view from your comfy seat; there's even a Galician Tourist Train pass! This discounted rail pass gives you access to various rail routes created by the Galician Regional Government and based on key elements of the region. Follow the Lighthouse Route along the northern coastline and stop to admire the lighthouses and gorgeous sea views, or hop on and follow one of the Ribeira Sacra Wine Routes to visit the lovely towns and wineries where acclaimed Galician wines are made and enjoyed. Check out the government website to grab your pass and plan your trip!

From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Children will love Villa Portosin with its beach vibe and sofa beds in the living area. On wet weather days, they can relax on the covered veranda, surf the Internet or cosy up with a film in the lounge. But when the sun's out, they'll want to be running free on the lawn or splashing in the sea. And with Coira beach right on the doorstep, kids can spend whole days swimming, snorkelling, or exploring the coastline in the villa's kayak. Older kids can also try their hand at windsurfing, while younger ones will love rolling down sand dunes or flying a kite on the shore. And after a day of beach activity, it's a hop and a skip back to the house, where a shady garden awaits. Relax with a cool drink, then throw some fish on the barbecue and enjoy a family meal al fresco style. Afterwards, you can even take a stroll along the shore and watch as the sun dissolves into the sea.

To learn about the history of this region, head to Castro de Baroña, a 15-minute drive from the property. Here kids can view the stone structure remains of a prehistoric settlement and imagine how early ninth-century Celtic people lived. A five-minute drive from the site is the fishing village of Porto do Son. It's a good place to stop for lunch, and adventurous kids can even sample some of Galicia's famous seafood dishes. Choose between mussels, clams, or even octopus. Afterwards, head to one of the beaches dotted along the Porto do Son coastline for a swim, or if the waves are good, kids can have a go at surfing.

Hop on the Santiago de Compostela Tourist Train and enjoy the winding narrow streets and beautiful architecture in comfort. Be sure to also spend time at the stunning Catedral del Apostol. Children will love climbing to the roof of the cathedral and exploring Santiago's most famous building from the cloisters.

Unique shore-side setting, beautifully furnished, and easier to reach than expected. No oven but understand this is the norm in Spanish homes as most eat out for dinner. A most memorable holiday.
