With beautiful greenery all around, the location is delightful. There is a restaurant serving delicious Galician dishes and a bar very close to the villa.
Santiago de Compostela has its origin in the shrine of Saint James the Great, now the magnificent Cathedral de Compostela. Since the 9th century, thousands of pilgrims have travelled the St James’ Way every year, reaching this majestic capital of Galicia and entering the iconic cathedral. Along with its pilgrimage history, it is a buzzy city with countless restaurants and bars where visitors can enjoy delicious seafood and local delicacies. It enjoys its UNESCO World Heritage centre along with contemporary art galleries and trendy bars. One of the most special places in the city is Plaza del Obradoiro, the site of the Cathedral, Raxoi Palace and the luxurious Hostal de los Reyes Catolicos, said to be the world’s oldest hotel. There is a ritual for visiting the Cathedral, you will admire the Portico de la Gloria, embrace the figure of St James on the main alter, go down to the crypt and up to the sensational rooftop to enjoy the views. There are many other fascinating historical buildings such as the imposing Monastery of San Martino Pinario. A visit to the colourful Mercado de Abastos food market is fabulous, the second most visited place in the city. You can buy and taste seafood fresh from the Rias, delicious cheeses and Padron peppers and well as the famous tapas. In the heart of the old town you can also enjoy tapas, octopus a feira, scallops and Santiago cakes along with the delicious Albarino wines. In the university area you will find contemporary architecture including Cidade da Cultura by the New York architect Peter Eisenman and the Galacian Contemporary Art Centre.
The Ria boasts approximately 70 beaches stretching from Finisterre on the North side of the Ria to Corrubedo on the south side. There is a huge variety of beaches including family beaches, beaches with restaurants and cafes, hidden beaches, beaches for watersport lovers and even naturist beaches! Favourite epic beaches are Carnota with its gorgeous sand dunes and rock pools, crab and fish catching and Louro with its beautiful sand and crystal clear waters. Playa de Brona and Playa de Esteiro are popular family beaches.
The historical cities of Padron, Pontevedra and La Coruna are easily within reach and are wonderful cultural excursions.

About the Region & Getting There
About Galicia
Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.
You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!
Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.
Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.
Getting There
Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain (and even Portugal). There are also vairous coach routes that you can take throughout the region and to other cities in Spain.
From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThough the villa offers just one bedroom, two children can sleep on the sofabed in the living room. Families enjoy the splendid gardens and swimming pool where the views are astonishing. It is so peaceful yet close to the city.
The beaches of the Ria are perfect playgrounds with swimming, surfing, kite surfing and good fun in the dunes. At Monte Louro, which is mountain and peninsula, you can see dolphins coming out to play in the evenings. There is a delightful little nature trail to reach the gorgeous Playa de Louro. It is spectacularly beautiful and serene, hidden away and protected by the lagoon of Xarfas. If you travel to the Rias Baixas, one of the most popular beaches is Praia das Rodas on the Cies Islands. With its dazzling white sand and crystalline waters, it is constantly favoured. Another wonderful beach trip is to take a ferry to La Isla de Ons, part of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park.
Galicia offers these magnificent white sandy beaches, epic Atlantic scenery and delicious seafood. Families that enjoy the great outdoors can enjoy lush green valleys, rugged mountains, sheer cliffs and wild seas.
Santiago de Compostela is very busy, very welcoming and you will find the street and squares full of children, parents and grandparents. There are plenty of street musicians and entertainers. Children will be entertained by bagpipes, the cathedral and the welcoming locals.
At La Coruna, children love to visit the Aquarium Finisterrae where there is a wonderful variety of ocean creatures including octopus, sting rays, other colourful fish and playful Atlantic seals. Children can touch the starfish and turbots.

Excellent property with a great host
Excellent property with a great host. Maria made sure we were made welcome (apple tart was delicious) and ensured we knew where everything was and how it worked. Always available for queries and a speed wizard on messaging. Pool and Jacuzzi were most welcome with the hot weather. This property is very private with only normal country village noises. The property was very clean and comfortable with virtually every facility you will need for a stay.
Very close to Santiago for visits. Also near all local motorways to make further visits quickly possible. A car is necessary. -

The most fabulous week at the villa
We enjoyed the most fabulous week at the villa. We ate in the beautiful garden underneath the orange trees. The villa enjoys a lot of outside space and an excellent pool which was amazing. The hostess welcomed us with a delicious apple pie as well as wine and other provisions. Each day we picked fresh strawberries, lettuce and tomatoes from the vegetable garden. During our stay the hostess was so kind to provide me with the ingredients and show me how to make Spanish tortilla. We highly recommend this villa and I will keep practising my tortillas. Muchas gracias.

Amazing holiday!
The accommodation is very nice, well equipped, clean and well presented. Lovely garden with fresh oranges can pick every morning for fresh juice. Also a pool but didn’t use as not warm enough yet. The host was lovely and provided a delicious soup and apple tart and general provisions including wine, milk and bread on our arrival. There is also a local bar open every day with very friendly owner and local people. The accommodation is located in a small village about 10 minutes drive from Santiago. Lots to do in the area and personal favourite was la Coruna and drive along the coast both west and north. Very relaxing and enjoyable week in Galicia and would recommend this accommodation.
