Book Now & Grow Green: 3 Trees Planted with Every Booking!

This modern three-floor, five-bedroom villa is located in the Spanish region of Galicia and has a pool with stunning views across the water to the Cíes Islands.

Located fifteen minutes by car from the coastal town of Baiona, you'll soak up the authentic Spanish vibe as soon as you walk through the door. The villa has been newly renovated and combines a rustic aesthetic with Mediterranean chic. The property makes generous use of wood and stone in keeping with the surrounding region’s landscape and traditional architecture. If you’re looking for an authentic Spanish experience, look no further because the villa has a traditional Galician Hórreo! A unique structure, these used to be granaries and can date all the way back to the 15th century. If you’re travelling around the region, you’ll see these protected buildings dotted across the Spanish countryside.

Upon arrival at the villa, you’ll make your way into the two living areas on the ground floor which feature a smart TV and a fireplace, perfect for cosying up on cooler nights. In the daytime, open up the porch doors for a garden view and let the warm Spanish air flow through the house.

Making your way upstairs will take you to the fully equipped kitchen with an adjoining dining area. The kitchen is linked to a beautiful tiled terrace with a dining area. From here, you can dine al fresco, gazing across the terracotta rooftops of Baiona to the Atlantic ocean and taking in the view as the sun goes down. One floor up are the bedrooms, tastefully decorated in neutral colours and each with their own view of either the garden or the sea. The cherry on the cake for us was the suite with a HydroMassage bathtub.

The lush garden is surrounded by hedges for full privacy and the pool is undoubtedly a highlight of the property. Sun worshippers will be in their element on the loungers and it’s easy to see why guests spend hours here topping up their tans. You’ll be surrounded by Spanish flora with rolling green hills in the distance, so your time outdoors is guaranteed to be peaceful and rejuvenating. If you’re in the mood to cook outdoors, then the barbecue is there and perfect for some outdoor entertaining. There’s also a small apartment in the garden with a bathroom, a fireplace, and enough space for two people cosy up in front of the TV.

A fifteen-minute drive from the villa is Baiona, one of Spain’s most memorable coastal towns. A historic medieval city, the town features a beautiful bay surrounded by pretty, cobbled streets steeped in history and is home to Monterreal Fort and its famous Príncipe Tower with three kilometres of defensive walls. Construction on the fort began in the 12th century and was completed in the 16th century. In 1493, Baiona was the first town in Europe to learn of the discovery of the Americas, thanks to the arrival of a fleet of ships bringing the news. A replica of La Pinta, one of the ships from Christopher Columbus’ voyage, is situated in the harbour to visit. If you’re a history buff, the 18th-century Santa María Collegiate Church is also well worth visiting to admire the flourishes of Romanesque architecture.

The town perfectly combines gastronomy and culture. From the castle, gaze at the sunset and then settle down to a seafood dinner at one of the many restaurants serving up delicious tapas. If you feel like letting your hair down, Baiona has a typical "wine area" that gets very lively in the evening. Head to one of the taverns where you can enjoy Galician cuisine in a relaxed and familiar atmosphere, have a drink after dinner and enjoy this authentic Spanish area full of bars, tapas shops and restaurants.

You’ll also be close to some spectacular world heritage areas; The Camino de Santiago is a world-renowned walking pilgrimage, hosting 30,000 hikers every year, and Baiona is on the Portuguese Way path.

If you’re feeling really adventurous (and remembered your passport), you can head south to Portugal's Costa Verde region and take in the endless beaches and pine woods which hug the coastline.

The jewel in the crown of Baiona is undoubtedly the Cíes Islands, an archipelago comprised of three unspoiled islands: Monte Agudo, O Faro and San Martiño, known for their stunning bays, crystal waters, lush flora, and unique wildlife. The islands are a protected environment and there are four walking trails, all boasting spectacular views, and even a bird observatory!

About the Region & Getting There

About Galicia

Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.

You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!

Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.

Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.

Getting There

Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain. Hop on and enjoy the view from your comfy seat; there's even a Galician Tourist Train pass! This discounted rail pass gives you access to various rail routes created by the Galician Regional Government and based on key elements of the region. Follow the Lighthouse Route along the northern coastline and stop to admire the lighthouses and gorgeous sea views, or hop on and follow one of the Ribeira Sacra Wine Routes to visit the lovely towns and wineries where acclaimed Galician wines are made and enjoyed. Check out the government website to grab your pass and plan your trip!

From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Kids will love a trip to the Cíes Islands. These real-life treasure islands reportedly hold buried treasure, and according to legend, Francis Drake used to hide out in the secluded coves of the archipelago. With all this talk of pirate past, it’s not hard to get the imagination of the little ones excited about this rugged piece of beauty just fifty minutes from Baiona on the ferry. Kids can go snorkelling and kayaking in the clean, clear waters of the archipelago, home to more than 100 species of marine life! There’s also a campsite which organises free children’s activities in the morning and evening. Here they can make new friends in the play area, have fun playing organised games, or get crafty at workshops.

Monte Real Yacht Club holds sailing courses and a summer sailing school, where kids can head out onto the blue waters of the harbour for a few hours with experienced staffers. For the committed junior sailors, take advantage of the club’s weekly sailing course for children between seven and sixteen years old, including a specialised trainer and all the necessary equipment.

An hour-long drive north will take you to the Rías Baixas. Famous for its tranquil beaches, the area also has reputable horse riding schools that will take enthusiastic riders to see the region's stunning landscapes. A thirty-minute drive from Baiona will bring you to the area of Ribeira Sacra, where you can take an excursion on horseback through colourful landscapes full of natural beauty with views overlooking the rivers.

Hiring bikes is a popular way to get around Baiona and families can head off to one of the many beaches surrounding the town or spend the day peddling around the pretty town centre. Either way, be sure to stock up on some delicious local produce for a picnic and a day out the whole family can enjoy.

  • Would love to return and would highly recommend.

We had a fabulous week at Casa Porto in Galicia. Our first time to the region and we all absolutely loved it. Peaceful, friendly, very authentic region of Spain. Very green and away from all the high temps in the Med. the house was perfectly equipped and comfortable with plenty of space for all 10 of us. Short drive to Baiona and lots of gorgeous beaches and an easy stroll down to Restaurante Lorena on the main road, which was fabulous. Loved everything about our holiday. Would love to return and would highly recommend.

Casa Porto is an extremely special house, both its architecture and the views and light it has. It has an exquisite decoration and a very good state of conservation, combining traditional architecture with the most avant-garde decoration. The house, the kitchenware, the pool were very clean, the appliances were state-of-the-art and there is an ideal barbecue to put it to good use. In general terms we had a fantastic time, it has been one of the best vacations we have spent as a family. The owner is very involved during the stay and makes everything very easy for you. I hope we can repeat!
