Perched on the hillside a short distance from Almuñécar and Salobreña, this lovely modern property enjoys panoramic views, offering a wonderful place to relax with family and friends and explore the sunny Andalucian coastline.
 
Recently completed, Villa Sofia is a contemporary whitewashed property with large picture windows in every bedroom that showcase this gorgeous region of Southern Spain. Arranged over two floors, the interior is bright and spacious, with stylish furniture and minimal tones that create a chic, contemporary aesthetic. On the lower ground floor, a large living area enjoys plenty of natural light, with generous openings that frame views of the sea whilst giving access to the terrace beyond. A herringbone-patterned floor runs throughout, whilst cement-rendered walls add a unique textured element. To one end, the kitchen is well equipped for preparing meals, with sleek surfaces and an impressive island counter, whilst to the centre, a large dining table invites guests to enjoy meals whilst looking out over the sea. An inviting seating area sits at the far end, where a large sofa and two bright armchairs are perfectly positioned to enjoy the stunning views. Across the front of the room, several doorways lead out onto the terrace and can be left ajar to create a fluid living space and invite in the light, ocean breeze.
 
Outside, the south-facing terrace enjoys sun throughout the day, and various arrangements of seating invite you to relax and soak up the view. Cool off with a swim in the heated pool before reclining on a nearby lounger, or take advantage of the warm evenings and make use of the barbecue, sharing pleasurable meals together as the sun drops below the horizon. There is also a lovely fruit garden, filled with several fruit trees that guests are welcome to pick from and create some delicious sweet treats!
 
Entering from the street level, guests will find four bedrooms in total, each minimally decorated with a pared-back palette, whilst comfortable beds and thoughtful touches ensure a luxury experience. Each room features a lovely en-suite shower, whilst large windows frame the idyllic view, which guests can enjoy without having to get out of bed. There is one room with twin beds, and the other three bedrooms contain king-size doubles (and one has an extra sofabed!).

Sitting on the hillside between Almuñécar and Salobreña, Villa Sofia is perfectly placed to explore Granada’s coastline, and a short drive will take you to the golden beaches and charming towns that line this stretch of the Mediterranean.
 
For those looking to spend the day beside the sea, Playa La Guardia is less than a 10-minute drive away. The gravel-sand beach stretches for just over 1km, and you can wander along the shoreline with your feet in the water or stop for a swim in the deep blue sea. There are several sports centres where you can hire a pedalo to paddle around the bay or visit one of the beachside kiosks to purchase an ice cream. To the far end of the beach, the town of Salobreña is a lovely whitewashed village, surrounded by lush sugar cane plantations and distinguished by its Moorish castle. The Parque de la Fuente is a lovely place to rest, with well-kept gardens and tropical birds, and why not pause for a picnic, sharing produce bought from the local market? The town has a number of restaurants catering to all tastes, but a great place to earmark is El Peñon, which has been running since 1954. Found on the edge of the Rock of Salobreña, the popular local restaurant serves up a delicious menu of Mediterranean classic dishes of fresh fish and seafood, which you can enjoy whilst admiring views over the mountains and sea.
 
A 15-minute drive to the west brings you to Almuñécar. Originally a Phoenician colony, the town has a rich history, as well as a castle built by the Arabs on old Roman fortifications. Climb to the top of the castle to enjoy incredible coastal views, or wander through the old town to discover the maze of cobblestone streets with its small boutiques and neighbourhood tapas bars. The town’s most prominent beach is Playa San Cristobal, with a lively promenade and plenty of restaurant options, or head to Playa Velilla to enjoy an afternoon on the wide sand lined with palm trees.
 
Away from the coast, there is lots to explore, and about 50 minutes inland, the Junta de los Rios Natural Park is a wonderful place to spend the day. Numerous hiking trails invite you to discover the dramatic landscape, with spectacular waterfalls and magnificent mountain views, and you can stop off at one of the picturesque pools to refresh your toes in the clear turquoise water.

Sitting on the coastline just along from Almuñécar, Villa Sofia is a wonderful place to enjoy a break with all the family, and there is plenty of room for everyone to spread out. Kids will love to swim in the pool whilst parents look on from a nearby lounger or make the most of the summer nights and share a barbecue together on the terrace.
 
The sea is just a short drive away, and there are plenty of beaches stretching up and down the coast. To the west, Almuñécar’s Playa San Cristobal offers an animate spot just moments from the town, whilst Playa Velilla is a popular option with families. With a wide stretch of sand and a gentle shoreline, the beach is perfect for young ones to paddle in the shallow water, and there are a number of lively chiringuitos, as well as a water park that will keep everyone entertained.
 
Head inland to discover the dramatic landscape in the Junta de los Rios natural park, following a trail to explore the turquoise pools and waterfalls, or for more light-hearted entertainment, visit the local aquarium to spot some sharks and colourful fish.

Terms & Conditions

These terms and conditions may be amended from time to time.

Security deposit €2,000 charged to client's credit card as a pre-authorisation at least 2 weeks prior to arrival and refunded two weeks after departure, subject to full inspection.
Arrival time 3 pm. Early arrivals are on request, subject to availability, and may require an additional charge. Late arrivals will require an additional charge of €90 after 8 pm and €150 after 11 pm.
Departure time 10 am. Late departures are on request, subject to availability, and may require an additional charge.
Energy costs included? Yes, included in the rental price.
Heating costs included? Yes, included in the rental price.
Linen & towels included? Yes, included in the rental price, and linens are changed weekly.
Pool towels included? Yes, included in the rental price.
End of stay cleaning included? Yes. However, guests are required to leave the accommodation clean, tidy and in the same condition as on their arrival. Any extra cleaning, laundry, maintenance and/or rubbish disposal required will be charged against the security deposit.
Internet access? Wi-Fi internet access included in the rental price.
Minimum stay 3 nights. All other durations on request.

Pool heating charge? Pool heating is available, on request, and at an extra charge of €150/week payable to Oliver's Travels with the balance payment. Please request this during the booking process. Please note that like all heated pools, pool heating and water temperature are reliant on weather and outside temperatures.

Insurance Guests are required to be in possession of a valid insurance policy, which covers them for cancellations, loss of personal belongings, personal liability and any accidental damage caused during their stay.
Stag & Hen Do Allowed? Weddings, stag/hen parties and any special events are on request only and subject to prior arrangement with the owner and additional charges.
Other Ts and Cs Staff may sometimes be required to access the property's grounds to carry out pool maintenance, garden maintenance, or other tasks. Workers should always be given access to the necessary areas.
Other Ts and Cs Guests are asked to be mindful of their noise levels, especially from 11 pm to 8 am. Guests are also asked to be mindful of their usage of the air conditoining units and only turn them off with the windows closed and when in the property. Furthermore, no interior furniture should be moved and placed outside.

How long have you owned the property?
Since 2021

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
The spectacular panoramic sea views, the vast plot size, and the exotic fruit trees planted by the first owners of the home - especially the 40+ year fig tree, abundant lemon, orange, guava, and jasmine fruit trees. The majestic sunsets and sunrises are the second thing that we fell in love with when we spent the first night there. Every evening and early morning looks cinematic and surreal.

Do you have a favourite room in the property?
It sounds cliche but it is true - all of the rooms are our favorite rooms because all have floor to ceiling windows of sea views. If pressed, we would probably choose Bedroom #4, because it has sea views like all of the other rooms in addition to a view of the Salobreña castle, which looks theatrical when it is lit up at night. Bedroom #4 also has spectacular views of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, the highest point in the Iberian Peninsula.  A close rival is the dining room, which hosts a 2.6 m handmade mango wood dining table for ten. It is an open and spacious area opening to the terrace and offers stunning sea views.

Really do?

Moonlight kayaking in Salobreña’s La Guardia beach with an expert tour guide from The Guardian Beach Club. Antonio, the guide, brings the town’s history, culture and traditions to life with a unique view to environment, ecology, and biodiversity. Visit the Salobrena castle, and take a walk around Salobreña’s old town. From around November to April, the ski slopes are open at Sierra Nevada, a little over a drive away from Villa Sofia. Impress yourself and your friends by skiing in the morning and returning to Salobreña for cocktails and even a swim at the beach on the same day (the temperature difference is incredible due to the altitude of the mountain range).

Really eat?
Fusion menu with a view at the ambient and chic La Roka restaurant in Salobreña’s old town. Arrive before sunset for cocktails and stay for dinner, awaiting the opera music that accompanies the sunset each night (the restaurant’s tradition). Try charcoal grilled fish at El Peñón Restaurant or La Bahia and enjoy your meal directly on the beach in front of the open sea.

Really see?
The dolphins! Rent some stand up paddle boards or kayaks from one of the many beach clubs in the area like The Guardian Beach Club or AWA Beach Club at Playa Granada. If you’re lucky, you will meet members of the dolphin colony that lives here. The Alhambra Palace, traditional flamenco performances in the Sacramonte caves, and Picasso Museum (all less than an hour drive from Villa Sofia). Also, during the season, enjoy skiing at the Sierra Nevada ski resort, which is less than an hour away.

What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
Villa Sofia is in a privileged location with a natural beach (Playa de Enmedio) below the mansion. Drive down to the beach and take a picnic with you (perhaps made up of some of the goodies in the complimentary luxury hamper we offer to our guests on arrival!) in the stunning coves. You will have it almost all to yourselves and channel Leonardo DiCaprio in “The Island”. (Although it is a short 3 minute drive down from Villa Sofia, it is not recommended to walk due to the steepness of the hill.)

    We loved our holiday at Villa Sofia! Amazing views, great terrace and refreshing pool. Such a relaxing vacation, thank you for sharing your villa with us. For our final night we visited “La Roka” - Delicious food and the most glorious view of the sunset. Most other nights we enjoyed the BBQ! Thanks to Martin for being a very welcoming host.

    This is truly a dream house. Brand new whitewashed villa (we probably were the first guests after the ground-up renovation) with the most incredible sea views from each single room (and bathroom) we've ever seen. Stunning, minimalist design with the utmost care for every detail. The real feeling, once in the house, is far better than the pictures. Developed on three levels, so expect a few stairs inside and outside. A car required to move around. The host showed a special care from the very first contact and has been extremely kind, proactive and helpful during our whole stay, even greeted us with a basket of gourmet, locally sourced products. Plenty of offers for extra services to be enjoyed at the villa and thorough, carefully selected suggestions on things to see, do and eat in the area. We had a fantastic week overall. Our 7 years daughter fell in love with the pool and the giant flamingo! Best property we stayed in.
