The Costa Brava earns its name, the ‘wild coast’, through a rugged shoreline where rocky headlands shelter beautiful coves. Around Begur, pine trees reach almost to the water at Sa Tuna and Aiguablava, while the Camí de Ronda coastal paths offer wonderful walks above the Mediterranean. Further north, Cadaqués retains its artistic character, with whitewashed houses surrounding a sheltered bay and the dramatic landscapes of Cap de Creus nearby.
Beyond the beaches, Girona’s medieval streets and colourful riverside houses make a rewarding day out. Inland villages such as Pals and Peratallada have beautifully preserved stone architecture, while Salvador Dalí’s former home at Portlligat offers a fascinating insight into the artist’s life. The protected waters around the Medes Islands are particularly popular for snorkelling and diving.
Food is a pleasure here; coastal restaurants serve freshly caught fish and traditional Catalan seafood dishes, while the Empordà wine region produces excellent local reds and rosés. The wider Girona region boasts 15 Michelin-starred restaurants, holding 20 stars between them, including the celebrated three-star El Celler de Can Roca. It’s an exceptional destination for food lovers and groups celebrating a special occasion in a luxury villa.
Barcelona El Prat Airport is around 1–1.5 hours away by car, while Girona Airport offers a closer alternative with seasonal UK connections.
