How long have you owned the property?

We have owned the property for over 20 years, though the Palacio s only opened its doors to the public in mid-2024. For two decades, it was a cherished family treasure—and now, we are delighted to share it with others.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?

It was love at first sight. The three Andalusian patios, each with its own soul; the original 17th-century frescoes that still whisper stories from the past; the wooden horse stables, once bustling with life; and the breathtaking views from the tower overlooking the rooftops of Lora del Río and the rolling countryside. But above all, it’s the warm and intimate layout that makes you feel instantly at home—grandeur without pretension.

Do you have a favourite room in the property?

Yes—several, depending on the mood.

The wooden stables, now repurposed into a charming events space, are perfect for intimate flamenco nights or candlelit dinners with local wines. The pool area, with views of the Iglesia de la Asunción and the tower bells ringing softly in the background, is ideal for slow afternoons. And of course, the main patio, which leads into our cozy library—a place I often retreat to for reading, quiet work, or heartfelt conversations.

In Lora del Río, don’t miss:

The Ermita de Setefilla, a sanctuary nestled in the hills, deeply tied to the town’s identity and devotion.
The Mercado de Abastos, where locals still shop for fresh produce and traditional delicacies.
The Casa de la Cultura and Plaza de España, vibrant community spaces where the soul of Lora lives.
Walk through Calle San Fernando, a beautiful street lined with whitewashed houses, flower-filled balconies, and historical corners.

Just 25 minutes away, in Palma del Río, you can’t miss:

The Palacio de Portocarrero, a historic jewel surrounded by orange groves.
Our own Restaurante Hortus, located within the Monasterio de San Francisco, where tradition meets innovation in the kitchen.

Visit the Alcázar del Rey Don Pedro, climb to the top for sweeping views.
Explore the Roman Necropolis, a fascinating open-air archaeological site.

Taberna Pepe Moreno (Lora del Río): a local favourite with hearty Andalusian cuisine and excellent meats.
Bar Chico (Lora del Río): traditional tapas, excellent salmorejo and lively atmosphere.
Restaurante Hortus (Palma del Río): creative, locally sourced gastronomy inside a restored monastery cloister: Monasterio de San Francisco, which is our other family house in the area.

In Lora del Río: the Iglesia de la Asunción, Palacio de los Cepeda, and the rural trails around Sierra Morena.

In Palma del Río: the Palacio de Portocarrero, the Arab Walls, and the orange-scented streets of the historic quarter. If you enjoy fashion the Victorio & Lucchino museum is a must see.

In Carmona: the Puerta de Córdoba, Santa María Church, and the Museum of Carmona, set in a stunning Renaissance palace.

What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?

Let yourself wander without a map—early in the morning or just before dusk. The real beauty lies in the in-between moments: the smell of jasmine at the patio’s edge, the sound of church bells echoing through narrow streets, the conversation with a local who tells you a story no guidebook knows.
