Overview
Nestled amidst the tranquil gardens of a seventeenth-century park, the opulent Knights Castle offers guests a unique experience in the heart of green Slovenia. Boasting a rich history that dates back as far as the thirteenth century, the six-bedroom castle was originally built by the Knights of Strmol and has been carefully and lovingly preserved, having been fully restored between 2010 and 2012. With breathtaking surroundings and beautiful interiors decorated with a selection of antique pieces, Knights Castle is the perfect place for a fairytale wedding, a special family reunion or a luxury escape to remember in the idyllic Slovenian countryside.
The verdant grounds surrounding the castle boast a fragrant, sloping orchard with a pathway leading to a picturesque fishpond, where you can relax in the sunshine on warmer days. A separate pathway leads guests towards a hidden walled courtyard behind the castle. Adorned with baroque sculptures by the artist Angelo Putta Pozzi, the quaint courtyard offers a dreamlike moment of peace and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. On the opposite side of the courtyard, an access path descends, eventually leading to a nearby road. For those who wish to explore further, the grounds offer access to a larger park with an artificial lake and a charming cafe.
At the northern entrance steps, guests at Knights Castle will be greeted by imposing Atlas statues by Angelo Putta Pozzi, while the statue of a crocodile, affectionately known as ‘Ms. Hribar’s pet’, provides another fascinating and entertaining insight into the castle’s history. The scenic views from the castle continue inside, where guests will find the splendid ‘red lounge’ on the ground floor. Here, everyone can gather together to discuss the day’s adventures over a glass of excellent Slovenian wine from the castle’s private cellar. A museum is located on the first floor, offering guests the opportunity to delve deeper into the castle’s colourful history.
The second floor of Knights Castle boasts a sumptuous main dining room, perfect for a boutique wedding celebration or an intimate dinner party with friends and family. An elegant piano lounge is also located on the second floor, alongside the castle’s six delightful double bedrooms. Each of the spacious bedrooms features tasteful décor, with ornate furnishings and serene views creating a restful ambience. Large en-suite bathrooms also provide guests with every modern comfort, including freestanding bathtubs in which to indulge in a long soak after a day spent hiking in the countryside or enjoying the vibrant streets of Ljubljana. On the third floor of the castle, guests will find the spectacular ‘golden salon’, the ideal space for an unforgettable gathering with your loved ones.
Boasting enchanting surroundings and an abundance of authentic charm, Knights Castle offers guests a unique and romantic setting in which to soak up the magic of Slovenia.
