Whether you wish to relax and recharge in peace and quiet or spend your days exploring all that Alpine Slovenia has to offer, Chalet Oskar provides an ideal base to discover the wonders of Lake Bohinj. Nestled within a glacial valley surrounded by the majestic Julian Alps, the lake offers visitors a scenic holiday setting unlike any other. This stunning mountain jewel is Slovenia’s largest natural lake and a hiker’s paradise, with a truly unforgettable location amidst the pristine natural beauty of Triglav National Park.

The chalet is ideally situated in Ukanc, an idyllic hamlet on the southwestern shores of the lake. During the summer months, Ukanc offers spectacular swimming spots where you can enjoy the lake’s refreshing waters near the point where it meets the emerald waters of the Savica stream. There are secluded coves and pebbly bathing areas where you can spend the afternoon relaxing in the warm sunshine. A walk along the lakeside from Ukanc to the town of Ribčev Laz will take roughly an hour and fifteen minutes, rewarding you with picturesque beauty spots and tempting you to take a dip in the crystal-clear waters of Lake Bohinj along the way!

Hikers will love the varied trails in Triglav National Park, where adventure seekers can take on the challenge of climbing to the summit of Mount Triglav, the highest mountain in Slovenia and the highest peak of the Julian Alps. A beautiful hike of roughly an hour will lead you from Ukanc to the cascading waters of the Savica Waterfall, a dramatic sight that will take your breath away. Meanwhile, a hike to Mostnica Gorge offers fragrant woodlands and riverbeds with enchanting scenery to enjoy. Continue through the serene wildflower meadows of Voje Valley to reach the striking Mostnica Waterfall. On your return journey, you can visit one of two traditional alpine huts, where you can enjoy delicious local delicacies such as cheese dumplings after working up an appetite! It might be a good idea to bring cash with you to the mountain huts, as they do not usually accept cards.

For something a little different, a cable car connects Ukanc to the Vogel Ski Resort. The swift journey is not for the faint-hearted, but once you reach the top, Vogel’s mountain station offers panoramic views of the Julian Alps and sparkling Lake Bohinj. Mount Vogel is one of Slovenia’s most popular hiking destinations, while the Vogel Ski Resort offers superb slopes for beginner and intermediate skiers during the ski season, with family-friendly lessons with experienced instructors available.

While a treasure trove of outdoor activities will keep nature lovers endlessly entertained, Lake Bohinj is also perfectly placed for visitors to make the most of some of Slovenia’s best-known cultural gems. The vibrant city streets of Ljubljana are roughly an hour and twenty minutes away from Chalet Oskar by car, while picturesque Lake Bled, with its fairytale island, is only a thirty-five-minute drive away.
