Villa Enxate can be found in the historical region of Minho, a location that is well known for its charming attractions and soothing atmosphere. Guimaraes Castle is one of the most significant landmarks in Minho and is based just over half an hour away from the centre of the region. First constructed in the 10th century, this striking monument is thought to be the birthplace of Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal. This castle was also used to host many great battles throughout history, further emphasising its far-reaching and alluring history. It is also located on the top of a very large hill, giving guests a range of panoramic views as they travel toward the castle. Guests can partake in a guided audio tour and uncover more of the castle’s wondrous origins as they travel through the building.
The Palace of the Dukes of Braganza is another fascinating historical landmark within Minho and is well recognised for its exquisite exterior. This palace was built in the early 15th century and was modelled after the lavish manor houses seen in France during this time. After the Dukes of Braganza moved to the Palace of Vila Vicosa, the monument fell into disarray and was left untouched for a century. Finally, in the 1930s, the palace underwent an extensive reservation process and quickly became a very popular tourist attraction. Guests can enter the palace and observe the well-preserved artefacts and explore the interesting museums that are located on the first floor. The Palace of the Dukes of Braganza is just over half an hour away and welcomes guests from 9 am till 8 pm every day.
Minho is also home to a collection of impeccable beaches, allowing guests to gain some rest and relaxation during their time in this region. Praia do Cabedelo hosts a spectacular beach that is filled with soft golden sands and calm water. Due to the tranquil nature of this water, Praia do Cabedelo is a perfect location for surfing and other watersports. Thus, guests can embark on a new exhilarating sport during their time at this fantastic landmark. Praia do Cabedelo is located just under an hour away from the centre of Minho.

ABOUT MINHO
The areas of Minho extend from the Spanish border in the north, south to Porto and east to the mountains of Vila Real. It is a green and fertile area of rolling hills encompassing the great rivers Minho, Lima and Douro, and the National Park of Peneda Geres. The countryside of the region is typified by long, sandy beaches bordered by pine woods, picturesque villages nestling among vine-covered hills, and historic towns such as Amarante, Guimaraes, Barcelos, Ponte de Lima, and Viana do Castelo.
The area encompasses a range of postcard-worthy landscapes and features that could almost be Portugal in microcosm: dreamy river scenes, high mountains, rolling vineyards, beautiful historic towns, dramatic Atlantic beaches, ancient religious foundations and mysterious archaeological sites.
Then there's the bold, sharp and fruity Vinho Verde to consider. This young wine is fashioned from the fruit of kilometres of vineyards that wind along rivers, over foothills and into Minho mountain villages.
But while you're enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Minho, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we've put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!
