With a modern, chic design and fantastic views of the Atlantic Ocean, Villa Kadia will bring joy to those who stay here. Located near the town of Canico, 15 minutes drive east of Funchal, this stylish villa provides a space for rest and relaxation for six guests across its three comfortable bedrooms.

The town of Canico is a quiet coastal community surrounded by steep hills, pebble beaches and whitewashed houses. Being located less than 15 minutes from the capital of Funchal, allows visitors staying here to easily head into the city for days out exploring the sights. Madeira's answer to Rio de Janeiro's Christ Redeemer can be found here. Sitting at 14 metres tall, the Miradouro Cristo Rei do Garajau is hard to miss and sits on the coast just outside of Canico.

Guests staying at Villa Kadia are welcomed into the open-plan living space. This space is light and bright thanks to the large sliding doors that lead out to the pool terrace spanning the front of the room. The living area is to the right of the space and boasts a large L-shaped sofa and wall-mounted flat-screen television, perfect for snuggling up in the evenings or watching any sports fixtures. The dining area is surrounded by yet more sliding doors and is home to a stylish dining set seating six guests comfortably. Behind the dining area is the kitchen. Equipped with all you could need to cook up a feast, this sleek kitchen will excite any budding chefs in the group. The monochrome design of the kitchen matches the decor of the rest of the villa, with hues of grey, white and black and natural wooden ascents giving the space a modern feel.

Two of the three bedrooms are found on the ground floor. Both of these bedrooms are home to comfortable double beds and benefit from doors leading straight out to the lawned garden. One of the bedrooms even offers its own en-suite bathroom for extra privacy, while the other bedroom shares use of a stylish family bathroom on this floor. The master bedroom at Villa Kadia certainly has the wow factor! Occupying the whole of the first floor and with full-height windows and large sliding doors leading out to a private balcony, this room is flooded with natural light and enjoys views over the majestic Atlantic Ocean. With a unique piece of feature artwork on the wall and a large double bed, not to mention the en-suite bathroom, guests staying here are sure to enjoy a good night's rest.

There is ample outside space to enjoy at Villa Kadia. To the sides of the villa, you will find lawned gardens that are great for running around and playing games. To the front is the all-important private swimming pool. With an infinity edge and the option to be heated, the swimming pool continues the sleek modern design of the villa's interiors. A spacious terrace wraps around the pool and is dotted with sun loungers, so you can easily jump into the pool and cool off after relaxing in the sunshine. There is also a decked area with an outdoor lounge that is great for enjoying an evening tipple. To the side of the villa, and easily accessed from the kitchen, is an outdoor barbecue area. Sheltered from any rain that may fall, this covered area is ideal for fine-tuning your barbecue skills!

Villa Kadia is located on the south-east coast of Madiera, near the town of Canico. Canico is a small coastal town surrounded by wonderous natural landscapes, from steep hillsides to pebble beaches and sheer cliffs.

One of the most popular sites in the Canico area is the Quinta Splendida Botanical Garden. Featuring over 1,000 species of plants and flowers and a restored 19th century mansion, this is a lovely place to visit and learn more about the natural environment. Another famed attraction in the area is the Miradouro Cristo Rei do Garajau. Canico's answer to Brazil's Christ Redeemer, this monument sits at 14 metres tall and overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. Sitting below the Miradouro Cristo Rei is Praia de Garajau. This small beach with Madeira's infamous black volcanic pebbles and sand can be reached on foot or by car down a long winding road that will test your limits if you're not a fan of heights! Or for those more leisurely inclined, there is also a fun cable car taking visitors down to the beach.

The city of Funchal is less than 15 minutes away from Villa Kadia and offers a range of amenities and activities for visitors. The cable car is always popular and offers stunning views over the city and a unique perspective from above. And when you reach the top, you can visit the Monte Gardens. These stunning ornamental gardens offer some light relief from the sun as areas are partially shaded - be sure to check out the Chinese garden! From the top of the cable car, you can also head for a toboggan ride back down the mountain - it is certainly a fun and fast way to get back down! Guided by two men steering the toboggan, this is a fun adventure for those looking to get the adrenaline-pumping!

There is plenty do to across the whole island of Madeira. The small village of Porto Moniz on the island's north-west coast is known for its volcanic pools. After heading for a swim in the pools, be sure to visit the aquarium. Although small, the aquarium makes for a great trip and is a great way for kids to learn more about marine ecosystems. Head inland along the walking trails of Levada das 25 Fontes. Along the paths, you can admire the lush vegetation and even visit a few beautiful waterfalls!

THE REGION

Funchal is the largest city on the island of Madeira and is encapsulated by Pico Ruivo and its neighbouring mountains, which look as if they have been seamlessly carved into the skyline by a Lusitanian God.

There is no better spot to start your holiday than in the Old Town, which illustrates its personality though street art, architecture and busy local businesses. There are many fine eateries, botanical gardens, a cathedral and impressive museums. Perhaps hop on the Madeira Cable Car as one of your first activities, as this will give you a great idea of the islands size.

Many flock Funchal in order to enjoy the Atlantic Coastline. This is home to its prominent harbour, where hundreds of boats and yachts, some of which enable visitors to embark on a magical sea voyage, can be found. Funchal really is a destination for lovers of the sea; as there are renowned surfing points, as well as being a great place to spot some whales.

Madeirans are also notorious for their elaborate festivals. If you’re travelling during the New Year, you will be treated to one of the world’s biggest Firework Festivals…a dazzling sight! During late February & early Mrach, you are able to witness Carnival and the streets of Funchal are lit with parades and festivities. If that’s not enough for you; the Atlantic Festival International Fireworks Competition, Wine Festival and Christmas are all noteworthy dates for anyone visiting Funchal.

There are some incredible villas on the island and we believe that we have done a great job finding them for you. Have a browse and let us know what you think.

ABOUT MADEIRA

The island of Madeira can be found south west of mainland Portugal, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Due to the island’s location, its is considered to have a Mediterranean climate that serves locals and visitors all year round – making it an ideal escape from reality at any point in the year.

What we love Madeira for is its seemingly ongoing festivals! Madeirans have found an excuse to celebrate most things; including film, their natural surroundings and key patron saints. This means that planning a visit during these days and even weeks of commemoration is well worth it (scroll down to see some key dates).

Madeira is divided into several municipals, each with a special offering to those who visit this island. Our favourite two communities are Funchal and Calheta and these are where you will find most of our beautiful villas.

Madeira’s landscape extends much more than a striking coastline. Make sure you pack some hiking boots and venture inland during your stay. With mountainous trails along Vereda do Arieiro, or more countryside appropriate paths like Levada do Risco and waterfall chasing treks like Levada do Caldeirao Verde – this archipelago has everything a keen outdoors person requires.

For those who enjoy either playing or watching sports, you’ll be happy to know Madeira offers so much selection. Madeira is also home to three notable football clubs, so if you’re visiting during the football season and want to see a good quality of football, you have every chance to. Porto Santo Golfe is the island’s renowned golf course. With an 18-hole course (Par 72) overlooking a Galapagos-like backdrop, golf enthusiasts will certainly want a ‘slice’ of the action! Surfers can access some great beaches like Jardim do Mar, Ponta Pequena, Paul do Mar, and Fajã da Ovelha in order to find some swell. Or, if you’re simply looking to recline on a sun lounger and soak up some rays, whilst listening to crystal clear waves break as they hit the shores, you will find plenty of man-made beaches & Lidos created for your leisure!

With a superb climate, close proximity to the coastline, wonderful cuisine, charming locals and astonishing scenery – this is a fabulous holiday choice for families & friends.

But while you're enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Madeira, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we've put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages

Villa Kadia is a great base for a family holiday. The open-plan design of the living space makes the room wonderfully sociable. Guests can move freely from the living area to the kitchen without stopping the flow of conversation. The private swimming pool is sure to be a hit with the whole group, and with the added option to be heated, kids can play in there for hours! The large lawned garden provides a great space to run around and play, and with trees providing some shade, it can offer some relief from the sun.

Practicalities as well as entertainment have been considered at Villa Kadia. A washing machine and dryer are available to tidy up any holiday mess, and a high chair and cot be hired upon request for the youngest of guests. Wi-Fi and air conditioning are also available, keeping you cool while you keep up with your friends back home. And sleeping arrangements will be easily organised as the master suite on the first floor is perfect for the adults, while the double bedrooms on the ground floor will suit the kids to a T.

The area around Canico offers plenty to keep families busy. The Miradouro Cristo Rei do Garajau is Canico's answer to Brazil's Christ Redeemer, and at 14 metres tall on the edge of the coastline, it will undoubtedly impress the kids. Whatsmore, from here, you will be able to see a tiny beach at the bottom of the cliff. The black shores of Madeira's beaches offer a novel experience to many kids thanks to the volcanic rock across the island. Praia de Garajau can be reached on foot or by car down a long zigzagging road that will test your limits if you're not a fan of heights! Or for those more leisurely inclined, there is also a fun cable car taking visitors down to the beach. Cable car rides are always popular with kids and offer a unique perspective on the world from above.

For those looking for an adrenaline-pumping adventure, then a toboggan ride down the main hill in Funchal will certainly be enjoyed. Thrillseekers are taken down the mountainside by two men guiding the toboggan at speed - it really is such fun but perhaps best for older kids.
