Overview
Villa Ilane sits in a stunning seafront position just along the coast from the village of Paul do Mar on the west coast of Madeira. Paul do Mar is one of the key fishing centres on the island and is a popular spot for enjoying Madeira's fabulous seafood. The village is uniquely positioned on a small area of flat land between the Atlantic Ocean and the steep cliffs of the mountainside above.
Guests staying at Villa Ilane will enjoy waking up to the majestic sea views each morning, and you will be able to enjoy a lovely cup of coffee on one of the balconies the villa has to offer. Sleeping eight lucky guests across four double bedrooms, Villa Ilane offers a wonderful seaside escape on the east coast of Madeira.
The main living area at Villa Ilane is found on the first floor to make the most of the wonderful sea views. A large private balcony stretches the front of the villa and is accessed via large bi-folding doors that stream natural light into the living area, brightening up the room. The open-plan design of the living area allows the conversation to keep flowing whether you are relaxing on the sofa, cooking in the kitchen or chatting at the table. The kitchen is modern and bright, with white counters and stone-effect counters. It is equipped with all the necessary mod-cons to cook up a feast for the whole group. A dining area seating six guests sits next to the kitchen. With a grand stone table and modern perspex chairs, this area continues the contemporary feel of Villa Ilane. The living area is the focus of the room, designed to make the most of the sea views with an L-shaped sofa facing the sea. There is also a wall-mounted television facing the sofa, so you can snuggle up on the large sofa and enjoy movie nights.
Out on the balcony, there is an outdoor dining area seating six guests for you to enjoy alfresco dining and a barbecue area with a sink so you can fine-tune your barbecuing skills. There is also an outdoor washroom here for your convenience.
The first of the four bedrooms at Villa Ilane is located on the first floor. With doors out to the balcony, guests staying here can wake up and stroll outside to admire the views. Inside, there is a large double bed with a calming white and grey colour-scheme matching the pale lilac walls. There is also a modern bathroom on this floor for guests to use, equipped with a shower over the bath.
The remaining three bedrooms are on the ground floor. Each bedroom offers a sumptuous double bed and access to one of the three bathrooms on this floor. There is a modern and tranquil design throughout the bedrooms, with splashes of colour like vibrant pinks and rich blues adding life to the otherwise neutral decor. There is also a good amount of built-in storage in each of the bedrooms, so pack as much as you like!
As well as the first floor balcony, Villa Ilane also benefits from a stunning rooftop terrace. Decorated with astroturf so it is soft underfoot and dotted with sun loungers, here guests can relax in the sun and enjoy the uninterrupted sea views. Location
About the surrounding area of Villa IlaneSitting at 35 miles long and 13 miles wide, the island of Madeira is found off the coast of Africa. Thanks to its privileged position, the island enjoys a surprisingly mild climate throughout the year, making it a great place to visit for a range of activities.
Villa Ilane is on the east coast of Madeira outside of the village of Paul do Mar. Known as one of the fishing centres of the island, this parish provides the island with a variety of fish and is a popular spot for seafood lovers. There is a selection of restaurants in the village serving freshly caught seafood, with a few serving alternative cuisines for those looking for more familiar flavours. The village sits between the waves of the Atlantic Ocean and the steep cliffs of the mountainside above, and until the 1960s, could only be accessed by boat! Today, visitors can easily reach the village along the road that runs along this stretch of the coast.
The town of Ponta do Pargo is located west along the coast from Villa Ilane. Known for its strategically located lighthouse and stunning high cliffs leading down the sea, this majestic town is a wonderful place to visit. From the town, you can take a walk inland that will lead you to the breathtaking Gardanta Funda Waterfall. The viewpoint here gives visitors a chance to admire the vistas of the surrounding sheer cliffs and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.
A trip to Madeira is not complete without a hike up Pico Ruivo. At 1,862 metres high, this extinct volcano is the highest peak in Madeira and is a popular hiking spot. One of the trails starts at Achada do Teixeria and takes hikers on a stunning path up through the hillside. This is one of the more accessible trails, taking around an hour and a half with a climb of 300 metres from the starting point to the top. The effort will certainly be worth it, as on a clear day the views are simply stunning!

Calheta, meaning ‘Small Cove’, is where many tourists flock to in order to indulge in beautiful man-made beaches and striking scenery.
This part of Madeira is formed of several municipalities, each with something unique and special to offer. Calheta Village is an ideal place to start especially if you enjoy a stiff drink! An old sugar cane factory still produces one of the world’s most respected white rums – Aguardente…perhaps you want to leave this part of your holiday till late in the evening!
Jardim do Mar is where you will find many of the locals on dawn patrol, taking to the waves and surfing. The waters can both be heavy and flat, making them ideal for abilities of surfer. Akaw!
For lovers of seafood, you should look no further than Paul do Mar. This is a village where most of the fisherman work out of, so you know you’ll be able to find the catch of the day here.
For those who have travelled to Madeira for its inland beauty, then look no further than Arco da Calheta and Prazeres. Within these locations you won’t only be able find some stunning hiking trails, but you’re also likely to stumble across some traditionally styled Parishes and unforgettable views.
ABOUT MADEIRA
The island of Madeira can be found south west of mainland Portugal, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Due to the island’s location, its is considered to have a Mediterranean climate that serves locals and visitors all year round – making it an ideal escape from reality at any point in the year.
What we love Madeira for is its seemingly ongoing festivals! Madeirans have found an excuse to celebrate most things; including film, their natural surroundings and key patron saints. This means that planning a visit during these days and even weeks of commemoration is well worth it (scroll down to see some key dates).
Madeira is divided into several municipals, each with a special offering to those who visit this island. Our favourite two communities are Funchal and Calheta and these are where you will find most of our beautiful villas.
Madeira’s landscape extends much more than a striking coastline. Make sure you pack some hiking boots and venture inland during your stay. With mountainous trails along Vereda do Arieiro, or more countryside appropriate paths like Levada do Risco and waterfall chasing treks like Levada do Caldeirao Verde – this archipelago has everything a keen outdoors person requires.
For those who enjoy either playing or watching sports, you’ll be happy to know Madeira offers so much selection. Madeira is also home to three notable football clubs, so if you’re visiting during the football season and want to see a good quality of football, you have every chance to. Porto Santo Golfe is the island’s renowned golf course. With an 18-hole course (Par 72) overlooking a Galapagos-like backdrop, golf enthusiasts will certainly want a ‘slice’ of the action! Surfers can access some great beaches like Jardim do Mar, Ponta Pequena, Paul do Mar, and Fajã da Ovelha in order to find some swell. Or, if you’re simply looking to recline on a sun lounger and soak up some rays, whilst listening to crystal clear waves break as they hit the shores, you will find plenty of man-made beaches & Lidos created for your leisure!
With a superb climate, close proximity to the coastline, wonderful cuisine, charming locals and astonishing scenery – this is a fabulous holiday choice for families & friends.
But while you're enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Madeira, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we've put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

And for the youngest guests, a high chair and cot can be supplied free of charge upon request. The living area on the first floor is open and sociable, allowing kids to relax on the sofas watching a film while the adults chat around the dining table or cook up a feast in the kitchen.
While the outside space is limited at Villa Ilane, there is still enough space to enjoy outdoor living. The first floor balcony is equipped with an outdoor dining area and barbecue so you can enjoy alfresco dining while admiring the stunning sea views. And the rooftop terrace is sure to be a hit with the whole group. The terrace is fenced, but children should still stay safely away from the edge. The sun loungers here are perfect for relaxing in the sun, and the jacuzzi will certainly be enjoyed by older kids and adults.
There are many natural swimming pools across Madeira that have been formed by volcanic lava, creating the chance to swim in crystal clear waters surrounded by volcanic rock. This unique swimming experience is sure to excite the kids! The most well-known pools are at Porto Moniz. These natural saltwater pools cover an area of 3,800 sqm and even boasts a children's swimming pool and play area as well as disabled access. For added convenience, there are changing rooms with lockers for storing personal items as well as a snack bar and sun loungers for hire during the summer months. Madeira's aquarium is also found in Porto Moniz and is a great day out when combined with a visit to the pools. Although small, the aquarium offers a great place for kids to learn more about the underwater world.
For those looking to set sail on the seas, a trip on Santa Maria de Colombo is sure to be a hit! Modelled after Christopher Columbus's ship, this boat tour offers visitors the chance to go whale and dolphin watching (depending on the season) as well as the opportunity to jump into the refreshing Atlantic Ocean when the ship drops anchor.
