About the surrounding area of Villa MizeVilla Mize is surrounded by lush pine forests in the rural hamlet of Muda, located between Comporta village and Grandola. The hamlet is less than a twenty-minute drive from Comporta and roughly eighty minutes from Lisbon. Whilst Comporta and Lisbon are overflowing with charm and vibrancy, Muda offers the tranquillity of tall pines and ancient cork trees, so you can enjoy the best of both. The area becomes increasingly popular year after year, with visitors embracing the outdoors with horse riding, surfing lessons, yoga, boating, sailing, wildlife watching and much more. Whilst the beach is not on your doorstep; it can be reached in minutes. In one direction you can visit the beaches of Comporta, Pego, Carvalhal and Troia. The other way is you can visit the beaches of Melides, Santo Andre, Porto Covo and Sines.
Comporta is a charming village located at the base of the Troia peninsula and at the side of the Sado estuary. The history of the village goes back to the Roman Empire, and Comporta is still a hive of agricultural production with rice fields and vineyards producing some fine white, red and rose wines. For golf lovers, Comporta is a dream; the fantastic Comporta Dunes course was designed by David McLay Kidd within a stunning terrain of pine forest and sand dunes close to Pego beach. Troia championship golf course is also nearby, designed by the famous golf architect Robert Trent Jones. If golf isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other activities and pursuits that you can involve with, including horse riding, fishing, hunting, sailing, bird watching and cycling. Comporta beach is just a ten-minute walk from Comporta village, so you can combine the two for a fabulous day out with your family and friends.
Of course, being this close to the vibrant, cosmopolitan city of Lisbon, a day trip is a must for your holiday. A foodie haven, there are so many options, from fine-dining restaurants to the renowned Time Out Market and the incredible Portuguese custard tarts. There is so much to see and do, including its Oceanarium, its zoo, its pretty azulejos, its markets, its fabulous wine bars, its historic monuments, its lovely waterfront, and its fabulous squares, just to name a few!

THE REGION
Comporta is surrounded by rice paddies, the ocean, sand dunes and pine forests. It's a unique place where you can connect with nature and live in the moment. Comporta has a rhythm and an ambience that are all it's own. This wild and unspoilt part of Portugal attracts an in-the-know international crowd, including renowned artists, designers, and A-listers.
Comporta has a remarkable diversity of natural systems with long stretches of beach, windswept dunes, scenic pine forests, salt marshes and rice paddies which become a vibrant green in June. The region is also characterized by rice fields and its main attraction, the Comporta beach: 20 kilometres of uninterrupted white sand, a beach lover’s paradise.
As with the rest of Portugal, you can expect sun-blessed weather year-round in Comporta. The best months of the year to visit Comporta for long beach stays are from June to September, while the spring and autumn months are still suitable for picnics or day trips.
ABOUT THE LISBON COAST
The Lisbon Coast is a sensational stretch of golden beaches, wave-lashed cliffs and vibrant seaside towns – but there's more to the Atlantic coastline than that. Delve beneath the surface to discover hidden coves, family-owned seafood restaurants and pristine natural parks.
The coast around Lisbon provides an easy, breezy escape from the capital, whose proximity has made it the stomping ground of kings for the last 1,000 years. In summer, Lisboistas stream into elegant Comporta and Cascais to escape the heat of the city; year-round, surfers hang loose on the coast, waiting for the rollers to crash down on the sand.
But while you're enjoying one of our fantastic villas on Lisbon Coast, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we've put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesSurrounded by nature and with the beach within a short drive, Villa Mize is a great option for families with older children. Due to unprotected drops from some terraces, the infinity pool, French glass windows and low tables with hard corners, this property is not ideal for toddlers, and young children must be supervised.
Comporta amplifies this love of the outdoors with water sports galore and amazing boat trips from the Troia marina to watch dolphins, creating memories that the whole family can enjoy for long times to come. The sensational sunsets are sure to mesmerise all ages, making a whole day and evening at the coast ideal for families. There are surf schools at the beaches with friendly teachers ready to help kids whether it is their first time or they are experienced. On land, horse riding is popular, where children can ride through the rice fields or along the beach. Kayaking through the rice fields of Comporta is another fantastic family activity.
Throughout Portugal, there is a very family-focused culture, so young children are welcome everywhere. This is evident in Lisbon, with its many family-friendly attractions. The Oceanarium boasts a huge collection of marine species, including penguins, seagulls, sea otters, sharks, rays, chimaeras, sea horses, starfish, sea urchins, corals, sea anemones, crustaceans, octopuses, jellyfish and much more. Whilst the Sumatran tigers, lions, giraffes, dolphins, birds, pelicans, reptiles and elephants at the zoo will captivate little ones!
