Set within a huge 2000 square metre plot brimming with lavender and towering pine trees, Lavenda Sea is a very special property that enjoys a rustic feel as well as offering luxurious amenities. Everything is handpicked, somewhat quirky and individual, all of which creates a beautiful, artistic holiday property. With five bedrooms, the villa can sleep up to twelve guests.

Lavenda Sea is located close to the sensational Praia de Carvalhal and Praia do Pego sandy beaches. With fine golden sand, gorgeous dunes and surrounding fragrant pine forests, guests enjoy fabulous natural surroundings and some thrilling watersports. You may even spot Sado dolphins as you swim in the sea. Located in the hippy-chic Herdade da Comporta in the Alentejo region, you don’t have to go far to be enchanted by the surrounding rice fields that change the colours of the landscape according to the seasons. Herdade da Comporta is comprised of seven tranquil villages including Carvalhal, Comporta, Brejos da Carregueira, Carrasqueira, Possanco, Muda and Sol Troia plus Troia, Grandola and Alcacer do Sal are nearby. The region is known for its surf, wild beaches and fabulous beach restaurants. The nearest village to Lavanda Sea is Carvalhal which is next to the Sado Nature Reserve. Lavanda Sea is typical of many of the holiday properties in this dreamy area in that they are built to integrate nature into the villas.

Lavanda Sea enjoys a fabulous open plan living space. Under an alluring sloping beamed ceiling that offers double height aspect, the neat island kitchen sits at one end with sociable stools so that guests can keep the chef in your group company. Rustic, oversized lights hang from above. At the other end, sumptuous sofas and chairs sit around admiring the natural views through the floor-to-ceiling bank of glass doors. When open, the outside and interior all becomes one, a totally natural, beguiling space. The living space enjoys these glass doors on all three of its exterior walls, maximising the impressive views and integrating the nature. A contemporary indoor fireplace adds charm and warmth on chilly days. Television and a docking station are provided for your enjoyment. Above, glass panels protect the stylish mezzanine level and make the whole space feel cavernous. The mezzanine is another spectacular living space with its charming, vaulted ceiling, exquisite, handpicked furnishings and fabulous ambience. Contemporary art and ancient oars decorate the low walls further, creating an excellent balance between rustic and modern sophistication.

The villa boasts five gorgeous bedrooms: three on the ground floor, one on the upper floor, and one in a separate cabana. Each of the three ground floor idyllic havens enjoys its own separate entrance, sumptuous kingsize or twin beds and a private outdoor area. The upper bedroom is just fabulous with it characterful vaulted ceiling and four comfy beds. An extra cabana has been recently built which includes a bedroom and bathroom, making the total maximum number of guests twelve.

The living space opens to an astounding terrace with lavish outdoor furniture. Both the alfresco lounge area and alfresco dining area sit under imposing porches which are draped with very healthy climbing plants and beautiful lighting. At a lower level, fragrant lavender follows the delightful path to a glorious infinity swimming pool. Trendy loungers sit by the pool enjoying the dappled shade of the towering pine trees. This setting is truly wondrous. To the side of the villa is another lovely area with a firepit and rustic seating. You will definitely leave Lavanda Sea with magical holiday memories.

Lavanda Sea enjoys a wonderfully secluded position surrounded by pines and other trees. It is located close to Carvalhal village and the beaches of Praia do Carvalhal and Praia do Pego. Carvalhal is one of the seven villages that make up Herdade da Comporta. It is surrounded by nature with giant rice fields and gorgeous sand dunes. The beaches of Pego and Carvalhal are renowned for their wild beauty and beach restaurants including the Sal and O’Dinis restaurants. Comporta’s magnificent surfing beaches boast two surf schools which offer courses for all ages and levels. Carvalhal enjoys a good array of cafes and restaurants as well as a central shopping street brimming with antique shops, boutiques and decorating shops. Spa Oryza offers wonderful wellness treatments using natural products as well as yoga and beauty workshops.

The charming village of Comporta is located at the base of the Troia peninsula and at the side of the Sado estuary. With a history going back to the Roman Empire, Comporta is still a hive of agricultural production with rice fields and vineyards producing some fine white, red and rose wines. Golfers love Comporta. Its fabulous Comporta Dunes course was designed by David McLay Kidd within a stunning terrain of pine forest and sand dunes close to Pego beach and Comporta Links is under construction. The nearby Troia championship golf course was designed by the famous golf architect Robert Trent Jones. Comporta offers an excellent array of activities including horse riding, fishing, hunting, sailing, bird watching and cycling. Comporta Beach is a ten minute walk from Comporta village.

Brejos da Carregueira is located between Comporta village and Carvalhal. Again the village is surrounded by rice fields and pine forest. The village enjoys an almost private beach which you reach through the fields. Carrasqueira village is located on the banks of the River Sado estuary with lots of agricultural land and colourful fishing boats. Its main street is lined with an array of restaurants, bars, cafes and a few shops. Possanco village is a newish country hamlet surrounded by the protected reserve and with wonderful views of the estuary. Another tiny hamlet is Muda, between Comporta and Bicas, on the way to Grandola. Sol Troia is a privileged area with its pavements sprinkled with towering palm trees and pretty flowers. The village is situated at the centre of the Troia peninsula between Comporta and Troia. It is an idyllic location just off the coast of Setubal and only forty five minutes drive from Lisbon.

The exclusive Troia boasts a championship golf course, a trendy marina, spas and a casino. Visitors enjoy sea and river fishing, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, sailing and cycling. Troia lies at the top of the peninsula just off the coast of Setubal and is overlooked by the Serra da Arrbida Nature Reserve. Visitors can take the ferry over to Setubal which is a twenty five minute crossing with the car or ten minutes if you take the catamaran as a pedestrian. Otherwise, you can drive via Alcacer do Sal and Comporta village. Troia is a wonderful area of natural beauty and is home to much wildlife including flamingoes, storks and dolphins.

Grandola boasts a history going back to the Bronze Age and was an important outpost for the Roman Empire which included large scale fishing, salting and preservation complexes. The town is typical of the Alentejo with surrounding countryside of agricultural plains and fields of cork, eucalyptus and pine trees. Grandola offers an incredible shoreline which stretches from Troia to Melides. Activities include kayaking, surfing, hiking, windsurfing, scuba diving, hunting for boar, rabbit, hare, quail and wild pigeon and fishing. It offers fantastic gastronomy and quality wines. The handicraft industry in Grandola includes wrought iron, weaving, tapestry, wooden furniture, pottery, cork and leather goods.

Across the channel of water, the delightful Setubal offers a picturesque, colourful harbour and a very pretty waterfront. Its Manueline monastery, beautiful ancient churches, acclaimed market and its interesting museums are always busy with tourists. Setubal is at the heart of the Portuguese sardine industry and also famed for its delicious, sweet and globally acclaimed moscatel wine. You must try them!

Not far from Setubal is the enchanting city of Sesimbra. The city is very Portuguese, retaining its original character and heritage. It is famous for its freshly cooked seafood and its breathtaking coastline. The fish markets are amazing events and the family run Marisqueira restaurants are atmospheric and very friendly. There are wonderful, panoramic views from the battlements of the Castelo de Sesimbra of the stunning beach which extends around the entire Sesimbra bay . You can explore the wonderful coastline by kayak, boat tour or dolphin watch tour. The Cabo Espichel, a wild and exposed cliff headland, boasts incredible views, a unique church, lighthouse and two sets of dinosaur footprints. The headland was once an important pilgrimage destination.

The vibrant, cosmopolitan city of Lisbon is roughly one hour and fifteen minutes from the villa. It is very popular for its much photographed, colourful trams, its foodie haven Time Out Market, its Oceanarium, its zoo, its pretty azulejos, its markets, its fabulous wine bars and restaurants, its historic monuments, its lovely waterfront and its fabulous squares. Close by, Belem is very popular for its specialist pastry shop, monastery and botanic gardens.

THE REGION

Comporta is surrounded by rice paddies, the ocean, sand dunes and pine forests. It's a unique place where you can connect with nature and live in the moment. Comporta has a rhythm and an ambience that are all it's own. This wild and unspoilt part of Portugal attracts an in-the-know international crowd, including renowned artists, designers, and A-listers.

Comporta has a remarkable diversity of natural systems with long stretches of beach, windswept dunes, scenic pine forests, salt marshes and rice paddies which become a vibrant green in June. The region is also characterized by rice fields and its main attraction, the Comporta beach: 20 kilometres of uninterrupted white sand, a beach lover’s paradise.

As with the rest of Portugal, you can expect sun-blessed weather year-round in Comporta. The best months of the year to visit Comporta for long beach stays are from June to September, while the spring and autumn months are still suitable for picnics or day trips.

ABOUT THE LISBON COAST

The Lisbon Coast is a sensational stretch of golden beaches, wave-lashed cliffs and vibrant seaside towns – but there's more to the Atlantic coastline than that. Delve beneath the surface to discover hidden coves, family-owned seafood restaurants and pristine natural parks.

The coast around Lisbon provides an easy, breezy escape from the capital, whose proximity has made it the stomping ground of kings for the last 1,000 years. In summer, Lisboistas stream into elegant Comporta and Cascais to escape the heat of the city; year-round, surfers hang loose on the coast, waiting for the rollers to crash down on the sand.

But while you're enjoying one of our fantastic villas on Lisbon Coast, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we've put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

There is so much wildlife including beautiful flamingos and tall storks. There are several surf schools at the beaches with friendly teachers. Horse riding is popular through the company Cavalos na Areia. Children can ride through the rice fields or along the beach, all the nicer at sunset. Kayaking through the rice fields of Comporta is another wonderful treat. The Vala Real is the main water channel and there are many animals to watch along the banks. Tours can be arranged through Cavalos na Areia.

Children love taking the ferry or catamaran over to Setubal, possibly seeing dolphins on the trip. While in Troia there are many beautiful walking trails with lovely views. The marina is very buzzy.

Children love visiting Lisbon with its many family friendly attractions. The Portuguese have a very family-focused culture so young children are welcome everywhere. The Oceanarium was opened in 1998 in the Parque das Nacoes. It boasts a huge collection of marine species including penguins, seagulls, sea otters, sharks, rays, chimaeras, sea horses, starfish, sea urchins, corals, sea anemones, crustacians, octopuses, jelly fish and much more. Lisbon Zoo is popular with sumatran tigers, lions, giraffes, dolphins, birds, pelicans, reptiles and elephants. There is a children’s petting and feeding farm and a fun cable car. On a rainy day KidZania is a child-sized city where children can play at being grown-ups trying out different occupations earning money to spend in the supermarket, renting a car or treating themselves to a haircut. Lisbon is famously built on seven hills which give wonderful views. The number 28 tram makes thrillingly steep ascents and descents as it passes through the different neighbourhoods and past historic sights such as the Cathedral and Basilica de Estrela.
