What Oliver loves...
We love a view, and the framed picture postcard window in the sitting room at Zen Escape Villa delivers a stunning river and mountain vista.
The L-shaped infinity pool at Zen Escape Villa is very inviting, set in teak decking, and large enough for a proper swim.
Who doesn’t love to spend the day in a romantic wood-framed, huge day bed, whiling away the hours under the summer sun doing nothing sounds like bliss
This elegant retreat benefits from nature’s bounty, set on a hill, overlooking a river and majestic mountains, and near the sandy shores of the Atlantic Ocean

The Region
Portimão is the largest city in the western Algarve and was traditionally a centre for shipbuilding, sardine fishing and fish processing. Today, most of that industry has been replaced by tourism, leisure and retail, leaving Portimão as a large and residential city. Perhaps the most attractive part of the town is the riverfront which runs from the marina to beyond the road bridge. There are several squares along this stretch, which become increasingly less touristy as you head away from the marina.
Of course, Portimão is probably best known for the fantastic beach of Praia da Rocha. Located about 3 km south of the town, this is one of the most impressive stretches of sand on the Algarve coast. Take a trip up the Rio Arade and explore the local area, or get out and active in the sunshine. Our pick of the best properties to stay in Portimão are perfect bases whether you're simply here for a beach holiday or you plan to explore further afield.
ABOUT THE ALGARVE
Though most people tend to see the Algarve as all about the beaches and a holiday on the Med, there’s far much more to it than that. There’s actually a load of fascinating culture and history, superb cuisine and enthralling adventures to be had, though we’d be the first to admit that the beaches are pretty special too, with lots of sand, spectacle and wonderfully clean water.
But while you’re enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Algarve, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we’ve put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!
