Oliver's Insight...
Home to some of the most natural beauty in all of Europe along with a relatively small enough area that you can visit all of its glorious ranges, Montenegro makes for a fantastic getaway for lovers of nature and leisure alike! Dine on some of the finest foods you'll ever try, as well as taking to beaches, islands and a worthy nightlife to encapsulate the perfect break from the mundane!
Your stay in Tivat, on the southwest peninsula of the country, gives you access to the town and the glorious bays and beaches that sit around you. Glitzy and glamorous, Tivat is all about style and class, so expect to see opulent super-yachts, a gorgeous marina and even traces of history in this charming coastal municipality!
If you've splashed in the sea enough at Villa Mariska, head into the marina and promenade where a wealth of restaurants, bars and cafes will ensure your appetites are satisfied! Enjoy a drink as you watch the hustle and bustle of the marina and the odd celebrity or two! The street that lines the beaches and bays extends an awesome array of places to eat. Try the region's speciality, seafood, in a variety of recipes whilst sipping some of the finest wines across the Balkan expanse! The promenade also offers guests who crave more international meals anything from pizza to barbecued delights!
After dining why not head through the town and check out some of its heritage! Look out for the Ostrvo Cvijeca with its sacred monuments, Renaissance Summer House Buca in the middle of the city, Gornja Lastva, the old centre, or book a boat trip to the island Sv. Nikola!
Lovers of nature can rejoice as your stay puts in easy access to mountains and canyons and amazing sights on the sea! Trek or take a mountain bike tour from Mountain Vrmac, overlooking the entire region or head to Luštica Mountain, which is just outside Tivat for an equally compelling experience.
The Region
About the Bay of Kotor
The Bay of Kotor, or Boka, has been a World Heritage Site since 1979, so be assured of its captivating scenery that includes; a Venetian old town, a Fortress, Roman Mosaics, churches and a glistening cove that all culminate to provide guests with an exceptional holiday destination.
Sailing through the fjord you will notice the Orjen Mountains along the west, and the Lovćen Mountain range curling around the east, which outline this spellbinding landscape. As you enter through the bay you are greeted by a man-made islet that is home to Our Lady of the Rocks Church and a museum. This is the first of many reminders that you are about to reach a region of Montenegro that is famed for its natural scenery and poignant architecture.
The Bay of Kotor is made up of four cornerstones - Lastva, Morinj, Stoliv and the most renowned Tivat. Within these villages you are able to find iconic landmarks such as St Petka Church and St Mary’s Church, or for something a little less pious; simply enjoy Tivat Marina and Gornji Stoliv’s Olive grove & Fig orchard.
Travel inland and strap on a pair of hiking boots as you explore Lovcen National Park. Although it is about an hours drive from the Bay, it really is worth the day trip! Whether you’re travelling with a Botanists, Ecologist, Entomologist or Zoologist; they will be pleased to know that there’s an immeasurable number of species that include birds, insects, bears, wolves and some breath-taking flora & fauna.
We urge holidaymakers to make the most of Kodor! This charming town has everything you need to forget the day-to-day tribulations of home life. Not only does this small medieval refuge have a host of cafes & restaurants, but there are some must see attractions like the Maritime Museum, the Cats Museum of Kotor, Cats of Kotor Shop and St. John’s Hill. The perfect retreat for a family in need of sun, sea & sentiment.
