Calypso Retreat makes a luxurious base for those wishing to explore the wonderful island of Gozo. It holds a fantastic location just a short distance from the vibrant village of Xaghra, next to the iconic view of ‘Calypso Cave’ and very close to Ramla Bay, famously known for its strikingly red sand. Calypso Retreat is a perfect vacation home for eight guests to relax and unwind across three bedrooms each offering lovely ensuite bathrooms. Full of Gozitan charm, the exterior of this villa offers the privacy of a large back terrace with a gorgeous pool, welcoming hot tub, sunbathing spots and a secluded olive-tree garden.
Upon entering Calypso Retreat, three well-appointed bedrooms await you. Two of the bedrooms have lovely king-sized beds paired with wonderful en-suite bathrooms. The other bedroom makes the perfect bedroom for children to share with two single beds and an ensuite bathroom.
With an open plan living area including kitchen, living room and dining room, Calyspo Retreat offers the perfect place for entertaining friends and family. The chefs among you will love using the fully-equipped kitchen with electric oven, stove, microwave, fridge, freezer, kettle, crockery and dishwasher. Others may enjoy stretching out across the L-shaped sofa infront of the TV.
Step outside to find a beautiful pool surrounded by beautiful stone walls making your stay all the more peaceful. Enjoy lunches using the charcoal grill, dinning around the large table in the cool shade under the canopy looking onto a beautiful olive garden. As the sun starts to set, make your way into the hot tub and bubble away into the night with the starry lit sky twinkling on the water.

About the surrounding area of Calypso RetreatCalypso Retreat is situated on the small island of Gozo, set in the heart of the Maltese Mediterranean Sea. There is no international airport on Gozo – something which makes this island feel all the more remote and tranquil. Guests are advised to fly to Malta, and then hop on the short and frequent ferry to reach Gozo.
Calypso Retreat can be located on the outskirts of the quaint village, Xaghra and 3.6 km east of Gozo’s capital, Victoria. Sitting next to the iconic view of ‘Calypso Cave’ and very close to Ramla Bay, famously known for its strikingly red sand and just a stones throw away from the UNESCO and World Heritage Site, Ggantija – Calypso Retreat is in the perfect location. Not to mention all the main amenities are within walking distance.
Whilst the island of Gozo is only seven kilometres long, and just over thirteen kilometres wide, there will be something for everyone. Whether its historical sites, fortifications, ruins, and castles, religious churches, chapels, convents, and monasteries, nature’s trails and treks amongst the natural flora and fauna, city sightseeing and shopping, sampling the best of the local homegrown cuisine, or simply sunbathing on of its many golden sandy beaches, you’ll always be spoilt for choice in Gozo. To explore the treasures found on this island, a car is perhaps your best bet.
Enjoy the slower pace of life and soak up the Gozitan sun. Crystal clear waters can be found at each beach and cove, enticing you into the serene waters. Spend the days swimming, snorkelling or even diving. In fact, Gozo is known as a popular diving spot, great for first timers and experienced divers too. Swim with schools of colourful fish through the networks of undersea caves and sunken WWII bombers! Families with young children will enjoy the nearby infamous Rambla Bay, featuring long stretches of striking red sands, set against craggy cliffs with lifeguards for safety. Options for water sports are never ending… paddleboarding, kayaking, tubing, wakeboarding or water-skiing!
There are some great hikes on Gozo that let you see the peaceful countryside, peppered with remarkable geological features begging to be explored. Enjoy the hike from Xaghra to Rambla Bay or challenge yourselves and hike up to the Sanap Cliffs. Each hike is bound to reward you with captivating views. Afterwards, find a spot to eat some delicious, fresh Gozitan food. The locals are well known for their incredible hospitality, encouraging visitors to come back time and time again.

Alternatively, embrace the history, culture and stories that entertain young and adults alike. Visit the megalithic temples at Ġgantija, and the recently restored Il-Kastell fortress towering above the capital of Gozo, Victoria!
For a more laid-back adventure, take a boat ride and tour the coast. You can get to dive and swim at many idyllic spots or you can opt to sail out to Comino, the island that captures the imagination of many. If you’re interested in exploring the island we suggest that you plan a day and return to Gozo at sunset.

We can’t wait to come back.
We enjoyed this spacious modern apartment. The provost pool and the deck was enjoyed throughout the day, in the evening the hot tub was the cherry on the cake.
