Overview
Located in the picturesque village of Ranco, which lies on the shore of Lake Maggiore, you will find the beautiful Villa Eden Al Lago. This historic villa is set over four floors and offers incredible views over the lake and the mountains. With eight bedrooms and plenty of unique features, including a gym and a wellness area, this house is the ideal choice for those seeking a welcoming home away from home for a break with a large group.
As you approach Villa Eden Al Lago, you will see a grand, elegant villa which offers a wealth of terraces and sits in an expansive garden with lawns and established trees. This idyllic villa is stunning inside and out, blending old and new perfectly. While the historic exteriors, fireplaces, flooring and beams have been carefully preserved, the interiors have also been brought up to date and have been dressed with the highest quality furnishings and chic design. Throughout the home, you will find solid wood floorings, a contemporary kitchen and five well-appointed bathrooms, some of which have luxurious free-standing baths.
The kids have various games inside and outside, including a dart board, pool table, football table, badminton, volleyball and basketball equipment. While the kids are busy playing, parents can enjoy some rest and use the sauna or steam room.
The villa's accommodation is set over four floors; firstly, the lower ground floor is a great social hub for gatherings in the evenings. This ample, open-plan space has a well-stocked bar, seating areas and games to play. You can access the gym, sauna and steam room here or go into the garden. On the ground floor, you will find the gorgeous fully-equipped kitchen; you can dine in the kitchen, the formal dining room or outdoors. The main living room is also on this level. The eight bedrooms are spread between the first and second floors. Some of these rooms are en-suite, while others share spacious family bathrooms.
Outdoors, this green oasis offers direct access to the lake, so you can enjoy a refreshing dip or use the stand-up paddleboards. A private swimming pool is also lined with sun loungers, outdoor lounge spaces, and an atmospheric al-fresco dining table.
What you should know…
- The home is cooled by air conditioning other than for living and dining rooms, which are north-facing and have large windows.
- The rooms on the top floor of the villa have sloping ceilings, though this should not cause a problem for guests.
- Villa has multiple floors connected by stairs. May not suitable for young children and mobility issues.
- There is a fireplace in the villa, but guests should not use this for safety reasons.
- It is highly recommended to bring a car to visit more of the beautiful villages around Lake Maggiore. There are parking spaces on-site.
- The villa’s delightful pool isn’t fenced, so children should always be supervised when outdoors.

If you prefer to indulge in delicious meals and shopping, you can explore the many lake-side villages or spend the day in Milan. There are boundless opportunities here at Lake Maggiore.
While sitting out in the spacious garden, you may feel in complete solitude with only the local wildlife as your neighbours. The villa is set within walking distance of a charming village with a historic centre.
In Ranco village, you can stroll around the centuries-old streets, where you will discover ancient churches, a brilliant transport museum and an array of cafes and restaurants. One of the area’s finest restaurants, Il Sole di Ranco, can be found in the village, just by the lake, so you can take in the fantastic views over the lake as you sample the fresh, local produce as part of the delectable tasting menu. Suppose you would like to spend the day sunbathing at a beach. In that case, you do not need to miss out due to the in-land setting, as there are two lake beaches within walking distance, which are called Spiaggia
Ranco is one of many villages nearby, as the whole lake shore is dotted with towns and villages well-connected by road and ferries that run all day. You can choose from a vast list of towns and villages to visit, but some top choices include Stresa, Verbania and Baveno. As the lake extends into Switzerland, you can also visit some Swiss towns like Locarno, which is a 75km drive away but can be seen as part of a full-day boat tour.
Along with the fantastic villages and towns nearby, you can spend some time getting away from it all and making the most of the scenic natural surroundings. Walkers, hikers and cyclists will have a wealth of routes to choose from, including mountainous hikes and gentle shoreline strolls; you can even push yourself and climb Sasso del Ferro Mountain to take in the incredible views from the top.

When did you become the owner?
We bought the property four years ago, in October 2019. The property was completely derelict and it took us three years to rebuild and renovate it.
What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
The stunning view across the Lago and the Alps. Being nestled in a small Italian town with easy access to the rest of the lake, Milan and the airport. Having private access straight from the house into a very clean, shallow, sand-bottomed part of the lake.
Are there any interesting stories in its history?
The home was built by the son for an aristocratic woman who married a commoner (a banker) and was cast out of her family as a result.
For anyone coming to stay, is there anything you suggest that they really…- Must do?
Rent a boat and explore the lake (I have local contact for a boat rental), paddle board on the lake from our own shore, take a beautiful swim in the lake, go to Milan (easy one hour drive), shop the many local Italian designer outlets, watch the birds frolic right in front of our house, feel like you are in paradise- Must eat? – our town has four restaurants each with a very different feel and we are surrounded by excellent dining options. - Must see? – the incredible surroundings
What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
I would provide all that in the house.
