Overview
Time seems to stand still as you gaze out to the views of Lake Como from this exceptionally beautiful and unique Lombardy home near Bellagio.
Contemplate the serenity surrounding this mid-century villa, set in private woodland close to a charming hillside village and enjoying panoramic vistas of the lake and mountains. Yet it’s not just the villa’s incredible setting that will inspire you – its vintage style also adds to the aesthetic beauty of this special place, originally designed by one of Italy’s most iconic 20th century architects.
Start off in the top floor living and dining space with 180 degrees lake views, also featuring an original 1960s bar, sunken lounge, mid-century dining table alongside designer fittings. The elegant kitchen includes bespoke interiors alongside contemporary appliances such as the two Smeg ovens and double fridge with ice-maker whilst doors lead to the prettiest of garden terraces where you can breakfast or barbecue beneath the shady pine trees.
Across the six bedrooms guests can expect 5* hotel quality beds and delicately embroidered linen whilst most of the five bathrooms feature original 1960s tiles. Two of the doubles lead to the mid-floor balcony, a wonderful spot for your morning coffee overlooking Lake Como at any time of year.
Indeed, you can follow the seasons at Villa Splendente from snow-capped mountains in the winter to azaleas and trailing wisteria in local villages as spring approaches. In the summer it’s a privilege to be able to escape the lakeside tourists and relax by your private pool surrounded by hydrangeas and idyllic lake scenery, then come October the estate’s woodland is breathtaking with autumnal tones as local restaurants serve chestnuts and good wine.
No matter when you visit, Bellagio is always full of such charm across its narrow, steep lanes, famous Salita Serbelloni and lakeside promenade, home to the historic Villas Melzi and Serbelloni. Only a 15-minute drive away, Bellagio is also home to summer lidos, a pretty public beach and watersports such as sailing, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding. Alternatively, arrange a private boat excursion, the perfect way to explore this magical lake.
Ferries will whisk you away to other gorgeous lakeside towns including Varenna and Menaggio or head across the lake to Villa del Balbianello, a stunning 18th century house and gardens where scenes have been filmed from Star Wars and James Bond movies. Of course, away from the glamour there are ample opportunities for long hikes, bike rides, swimming from pebbled beaches followed by long lunches in authentic osterie – there are so many experiences to appreciate during your time at Lake Como.
What you should know…
- 12 guests are accommodated across six bedrooms. An extra guest can be accommodated by a chair-bed to be added to the triple room on the middle floor, on request and subject to an additional fee.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa SplendenteEnjoy magnificent Lake Como and mountain views from Villa Splendente, set on a hillside in private wooded grounds just outside a small village, around a 7km drive from the lakeside town of Bellagio. You can walk up the hill to the local village where there’s a cake shop and gelateria, a couple of café-bars and a small supermarket.
Bellagio is of course one of the most loved lakeside towns in Lombardy - it’s a joy to explore with its narrow lanes filled with charming trattorie and little shops including the much photographed Salita Serbelloni. Be prepared for lots of steps or head straight to the lakeside promenade and wander along the lake’s shore, admiring beautiful historic villas and their gardens such as Villa Melzi and Villa Serbelloni. Look out for lidos and watersports, especially around Pescallo where you will find sailing, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding.
From Bellagio, take the ferry across to Varenna, an authentic and picturesque village with traditional colourful houses and pretty cobbled lanes. The most energetic can walk up the steep hill to admire the medieval Castello di Vezio where there’s the most stunning views of Lake Como.
Also accessed via ferry, take a stroll down the elegant lungomare in Menaggio or wander to the heart of the town and enjoy the shops, cafes and restaurants. Explore the old quarter with its characterful buildings or head further inland to discover some of the magnificent walking trails through Parco Val Sanagra.
18th century Villa del Balbianello is another beautiful gem on the shores of the lake with picturesque terraced gardens – many famous movies have filmed scenes here, including Star Wars and James Bond, and the backdrop is truly spectacular. Approach by taxi-boat or footpath from Lenno (take a ferry from Lezzeno or Bellagio).
One of the owner’s recommended restaurants, Trattoria del Segrino, can be found in the village of Canzo not far from the Parco Lago Segrino, a picturesque spot for walking following the trail around the small lake. This is just one of the many beautiful walking spots in this part of northern Italy, not to mention cycling opportunities, horse-riding and boat rental – all spectacular ways to appreciate the stunning landscapes around Lake Como.

Villa Splendide was everything we would have hoped for
Villa Splendide was everything we would have hoped for in a villa while visiting Lake Como. The light-filled house enjoys incredible views of the lake and mountains. Its private location in quaint Cevenna makes for a quiet and serene setting among the pines. The bedrooms are well sized and appointed with comfortable linens. The beautiful pool, sauna, and vegetable and flower gardens were among our family's favorite hangout spots!
Luiggi, the house manager, was extraordinary. He was attentive, friendly, helpful, and professional. The night he helped with a cooking class - along with Sicilian chef, Fausto - was among our most memorable and festive evenings. Next time, we'll enjoy more dinners at the house! -
Stunning views!
Nice, 70s mid century modern house with stunning views. Excellent communication from host and staff. I’m a snob for views and this place delivered. Pictures online don’t do the views justice.

Luxury in its finest form
This is a place you will walk into and have your breath taken. It is spectacular. The view is so beautiful you will keep having to check it’s even real.
The rooms are very well appointed, beautifully dressed and the beds the same quality as some of the best hotels in the world. We slept extremely well, sinking into the comfortable beds.
The hosts went above and beyond for us!
The sauna and pool overlook the stunning Lake Como as well. Such a treat.
Luxury in its finest form. This is the place you will keep thinking of, returning to and telling your friends about.
A must visit! -
It's like home here
Beautiful place, responsive hosts, historic Villa Splendente on the hill of Lake Como, wonderful scenic views of nature, I especially recommend it to those who like walking in the mountains. Loved the pool and sauna overlooking the lake.
The Villa works on sustainability and green thinking. It's like home here. The service staff works seamlessly. We spent our holidays here for the third time, and I hope we will be back next year,
Thank You so much! -
Splendid stay
Wonderful place. The view on the lake from the balcony and swimming pool is even more beautiful than you can imagine. Nice area to spend your days cycling, walking and visit the towns on the lake. Also visiting more by taking the boats and ferry.
The house has several bedrooms, we slept very good in the bed. So if it is available don’t hesitate.
-
Amazing stay!
We had an amazing stay in this Villa, in a beautiful and romantic room with a full view on Como Lake. The owner Chanel spoiled us since we were the only guests! Really grateful and I hope to go back sooner or later!
-
Location with superb view
Location with superb view overlooking Lake Como. Unique villa restored to its late 1960's style and decor. Enjoyed a very relaxing, peaceful few days with short drives to local towns for great cuisine and walks. Thanks to our gracious host Barbara for a wonderful stay!

History and dream!
Villa Splendente is simply stunning.. there are no adjectives to describe it! Every corner is a piece of history and dream.

Magic stay!
Everything about our stay was amazing. To start with, everything was super clean and spotless!
The house from the inside is beautiful, spacious and exquisitely furnished. As a content creator it made me want to film my videos in each and every corner of the house! I never make content during vacations but this house made me want to have as much memories of that house as possible. I also gave my followers in my stories a tour of the house inside and out which they loved and were in awe! I didn’t feel I need to drive anywhere for a change. I just wanted to spend all our vacation days there relaxing.
You will have everything that you need there: toiletries, clean towels, large tissue boxes in every bathroom, all kinds of coffee making machines and water boiler. Also a dishwasher, washing machine and iron table. Free and fast wifi!
5 bedrooms and two large living areas (one of them is a game room) with dining tables. There is also a large outdoors dining table on the kitchen porch.
Also the kitchen drawers have some spices and herbs for those who would like to enjoy preparing their own meals there! You’ll also find olive oil and balsamic vinegar on the kitchen counter.
From the inside you have a beautiful and breath-taking view from every room which are also very well lit during the day.
The surrounding of the house is so green and magical! You have a view of the lake and the green green forest.
I really can’t wait to come back again in summer to enjoy more of the view while spending time outdoors around the pool and use the sauna and jacuzzi.
Not to forget how AMAZING Barbra is! -
Unique atmosphere
I just came back from my summer vacation and wanted to take my time in writing this review. This property was exceptional. Travelling as a big family around Europe, we could clearly say that this place was the highlight of our trip. The house had a unique atmosphere that can’t be found elsewhere.
-
Exceptional!
Our experience with Villa Splendente was exceptional! from the initial communication until we left the house. We found the directions very easily with the guidance we got, everything was amazing.
-
Amazing!
I didn’t dare to expect exactly what the pictures showed, but that’s what we got. An absolutely amazing house with a fantastic view and location over the lake! I will be back as soon as possible and won’t stop recommending this house and the host to others!

Views are breath-taking
After living in many beautiful houses and resorts both in Europe and Asia, I could not expect to find such a gorgeous place in Italy. Villa Splendente has the most stunning view of Lake Como. I have to say, the views are literally breath-taking.
