Lying off the coast of Naples is the volcanic island of Ischia. This pretty island filled with gorgeous beaches, botanical gardens and natural thermal spas is a unique holiday location and great for family trips. The location means you are able to spend time exploring the island and also visit the nearby island of Capri and the Italian mainland when you wish to.
The villa is well placed as there are lots of amenities a few minutes walk away. If you wish to visit nearby gardens or beaches, then these are a stone’s throw away along with restaurants and a supermarket. For a larger town with historical attractions including towers, churches and monuments and a larger selection of eateries and shops then you should visit Forio which is 2.5km from the villa and is a beautiful town.
The volcanic nature of the island means that it is filled with natural thermal spas. Some of these have been turned into high-end spas offering treatments and others have been left how nature intended. One of the more natural is called Sorgeto hot spring and is just outside of Forio. These hot springs are located within a large, picturesque bay and the thermal waters create a series of natural hot tubs looking out towards the sea. There is a restaurant in the bay, but locals often cook food in a pan using the heat from the springs! If you would prefer one of the spas which offer treatments and a selection of pools, then Poseiden thermal gardens are some of the best and are set within stunning manicured gardens.
If you are looking for historic attractions and great shopping, then visit the island’s capitals which are the connected towns of Ischia Porto and Ischia Ponte. Ischia Porto is a trendy, cosmopolitan area close to the port. While sitting by the port you will be able to see people arriving in yachts to enjoy the high-end shops and restaurants. The port also has some brilliant local seafood which is always fresh from the boats. Ischia Ponte is the older of the two towns and is filled with old winding streets and monuments, make sure to visit the vast Aragonese Castle which was built in the fourteenth century.
When holidaying on Ischia, it is always worth taking a boat trip to nearby Capri or the mainland to visit Naples or Sorrento. All of these trips take just an hour!
** Please note the property is actually located on the island of Ischia. Regular ferries depart from Porto d'Ischia and Porto di Casamicciola to Naples**
