The town also has plenty of sightseeing opportunities: visit the Archaeological Museum of Kissamos to find a treasure trove of artefacts from the Hellenic and Roman eras; or stroll down Skalidi street to see beautiful architecture and explore local artisan craft shops. From the harbour in Kissamos you can also take a ferry to visit Kithira, Peloponenese and Piraeus. Or go on a cruise to Gramvousa and the Balos Lagoon.
The island of Crete is home to some superb beaches including Falarsana – one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean –; exotic Elafonisi in the south-west of Chania; Episkopi and Petres for a young vibe; Agios Pavlos in the south with its huge sand dunes; and the palm forest beach in Vai which is a sight not to be missed.
