The charming Chateau de Seyres is ideally located in a small village in the Charente region of South West France, just on the Dordogne borders, and offers guests a choice on whether they'd like to stay in Medieval splendour or Classical elegance! The property has remained in the same family for several centuries, who painstakingly take care of the place and ensure each and every need of each and every guest is met. Enjoy the spectacular linden tree in its courtyard, as you take in a chateau nestled in greenery that overlooks the nearby valley and woods - the perfect place for a holiday in the South of France.

The chateau has two wings, which are connected by a music room. This room is a great place to meet up with everyone for drinks and nibbles, and entertainment is easy thanks to the Pleyel grand piano, at the disposal of seasoned musicians.

The elegant rooms have all been decorated by hand and refurbished with a contemporary touch that'll make modern visitors feel right at home. There's a huge attention to detail, including good quality beds (two four-posters) and linen as well as period and vintage furniture. Most of the property's bathrooms have been completely remodelled to include (among other things) a large shower. There is central heating for winter use and, should you feel the need, a blazing log fire!

Good news! For a little extra, this property can be booked as a Vill’otel

Yey! Wait… what is that?
It’s the perfect combo of the privacy of your own personal villa, with all the luxury and convenience of a hotel.

What can be arranged?
Breakfast, cleaning, welcome drinks and hamper, plus more! Check the 'Extras' tab for all the details.

This home is a part of our Great Value and Heritage Collection!

This is a historic home, and as such:

  • It has probably been standing for over 100 years, which means it's full of historic value and charm but it may also have one or two quirks!
  • Some of the decor and furnishings may not be brand new, but that should not detract from your holiday experience in this unique setting that allows you to take a step back in time!

Owner Profile

How long have you owned the property?
The chateau has been in our family for centuries.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
Most of the people are charmed by the stunning 250 year old linden tree and the roman church - it brings a very special and romantic atmosphere.

Are there any interesting stories in its history?

We have many stories about this place, our grandfather was a doctor with a great sense of humour... the chateau was occupied by German officers during World War II, and our grandfather was fed up to see his Cognac and his favourite tomatoes being stolen by the Germans. So he put some methylene blue over the tomatoes and into the cognac. The following morning after all the poor Germans had enjoyed my grandfather's delicacies, they came running to see him, very scared that their pee had turned blue! Our grandfather told them it was very serious and they had to stop to eating tomatoes and drinking Cognac!

Have you ever had any famous guests staying?

We had a theatre group from France and the main actor is famous in France, they stayed few days.

For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area they should...
Really do?
Go to visit Brantôme, one of the most beautiful and romantic towns in Dordogne

Really eat?
In the village of Sers 1min walk away, we have one of the best butchers in the area - he has received several awards for his charcuterie and fantastic meat.

Really see?
Two brothers in the 50’s decided to create a copy of Versailles, they never had time to finish this amazing project. For a few years a group of passionate people decided to continue their dream, now you can visit the chateau, they organise many events in the chateau and it’s really interesting.

    Great start

  • Absolutely beautiful

    on 12/07/2023

The château was absolutely beautiful. Lovingly maintained and updated in a way that provides modern comforts but keeps the traditional style and a real sense of the history. The pool was perfect and the peaceful surrounds so tranquil and relaxing. The breakfasts were beyond expectations, with delicious home prepared French Toast, eggs, pastries and big bowls of hot chocolate that my children couldn’t get enough of. Delightful and helpful hosts too. I just wish we’d stayed longer.

  • We definitely recommend it and will come back!

    on 22/05/2023

We had a great weekend at the castle! The place is incredible with a very spacious interior, the numerous rooms and bedrooms, all very pleasant, some with a magnificent view of the surrounding landscapes! The exterior is also very pleasant! The large swimming pool and the entire park allowed us to have a great time with friends! We definitely recommend it and will come back!

  • Unique castle atmosphere

    on 08/09/2022

Unique castle atmosphere, beautiful atmosphere with furniture, and porcelain. Awesome pool.

  • Lovely authentic old chateau!

    on 03/08/2019

Lots of room for guests. A bit rough around the edges but a great base for a holiday.

  • The High Life!

    on 03/01/2018

We all dreamt of it and Nathalie and Blandine made it possible. First of all, it is a real castle, with its towers, beautiful rooms, staircases and corners. It is also a house where it is good to live and where every room is a good place to be. All was devised so you feel at home but with grandeur. Blandine and Nathalie really have put themselves in our shoes and asked “What can we do so their stay is as enjoyable as possible?” Everything is perfect, Maybe, sometimes a latch or a towel rack are missing, but rest assured that next time, for there has to be another time, everything will be sorted.

  • A Perfect Holiday

    on 24/10/2017

The chateau was as pictured, gorgeous. But what really impressed us all, was the warm and friendly and accommodating attitude of the hostess and her sister. They did everything to make our holiday special, and even refused the tip we offered at the end. All in all, it was a perfect holiday.

  • A little corner of paradise

    on 18/03/2017

The welcome from our two hosts was warm and sincere. The chateau is splendidly decorated with great comfort too. There is a fabulous sense of calm and tranquility making this a trip of dreams.

  • Wonderful chateau, full of character

    Created on 14/09/2016

We stayed in the Chateaux De Seyres for a week as a friend was getting married in the region, a group of us decided to book accommodation for a week's holiday and couldn't have chosen a more perfect place! We were 10 adults and for two nights we were 15. The Chateau itself is a wonderful maze of rooms and corridors, some as much as 800 years old, full of character and completely unique. Situated on the edge of a small village, we were able to pick up our morning breads and meats locally, while the nearest supermarket was about 15 minutes away. Secluded and secure, the grounds of the Chateau include a beautiful outdoor dining area, heated swimming pool, with ping pong table, badminton net, trampoline and various other entertainment available, even a few bikes to explore a little further.
We found the owners very friendly and helpful. They were available whenever required, without being intrusive. They organised a local horse riding and canoeing trip for us and arranged a meal on our first evening, cooked by some of their friends.
I could not recommend this place more. Every bit as beautiful as it looks!

  • Stunning chateau in an idyllic town

    on 04/08/2016

A group of friends and I stayed here a week ago and could not have wished for better. The Chateau itself is absolutely stunning and the grounds are beautiful. The rooms are immaculately presented in a style befitting the age and history of the property but with a comfort and warmth that makes one feel relaxed and at home. My only slight regret was that as the weather was so good for us that we barely spent anytime inside but for sleeping. Having said that, dining outside each night in front of the old coach house wasn't a chore! Nathalie arranged a meal for us on the first night so that removed the stress of shopping and cooking before we were settled. Nathalie and her sister were also on hand to lend advice or help with booking anytime we asked but were never intrusive and were charming hosts. The town of Sers is minimal but you can get all the basic provisions when you get used to their opening times, and the nearest Intermarche is a 15 minute drive away. All this set alongside the swimming pool, badminton set, table tennis and petanque and you have yourself an ideal getaway retreat. I fully recommend staying here to anyone and I fully intend to stay there again myself!

  • Magical week at this special place!

    on 26/09/2012

We visited Chateau de Seyres in August this year, 2012, and enjoyed a magical week at this special place.
The ancient chateau - surrounded by peaceful woodland - oozes character and history, yet the rooms are large and comfortable, with an inviting lounge and atmospheric dining room.
During the week we visited, South-West France was experiencing a fierce heatwave, and with temperatures nudging 50 degrees, the newly-built pool was a necessity! One of the most attractive and largest outdoor pools I have come across, it's nestled in the grounds, surrounded by plenty of sunloungers and a few hammocks... a wonderful setting in which to relax, sunbathe, read.
Our hosts were unfailingly welcoming and hospitable, and always keen to suggest nearby walks, or bike rides (there are a few bikes for guests to use).
We hope to visit the chateau, and this beautiful corner of South-West France, next year.

  • Our wedding day was truly magical!

    on 26/09/2012

We booked the Chateau de Seyres for our wedding in the first weekend of September and it was the best decision we ever made! We booked it online on the strength of the pictures which can be a bit risky but when we checked it out in March we knew we had found somewhere really special!
We had a small wedding with only 25 guests but the setting was perfect.
Planning a wedding abroad can be quite stressful but thanks to Nathalie and Blandine, our charming hosts, the process was relatively easy. They were so helpful throughout the whole experience from arranging the priest to give the blessing to finding us a caterer (who by the way, was amazing! Best food ever!). The church where we had the ceremony is next to the chateau and this was beautiful too with so much character!
There were 15 of us altogether who stayed at the chateau and nobody wanted to leave! Me and my husband stayed in the Red Room which had a lovely view of the garden and a huge four poster bed but all the rooms had quirky details full of character so everyone was happy!
The weekend was so relaxed and we were able to spend quality time with all the family playing in the fabulous pool, playing table tennis and badminton. Self catering was easy because there is a charcuterie and boulangerie in the village and a huge supermarket a short drive away so the day after the wedding we had a barbecue.
I can't rate the chateau highly enough as it was the setting to my dream wedding and it brings tears to my eyes when I think of how happy I was! A weekend was all it took to fall in love with this place but next time we'll stay a whole week to really make the most of it!
Thank you to everyone who helped make our wedding day truly magical!
    Katie
