Set in storybook gardens with a well inspired by the original Snow White film, Manoir des Fables is a place where history lingers in the stone walls and craftsmanship is woven into every detail. With origins tracing back to the 16th century, this enchanting gite-style home has been painstakingly rebuilt using traditional materials and techniques, blending heritage with modern comfort.

Step inside and discover an atmosphere shaped by oak, walnut and cherry wood, where hand-crafted doors, bespoke furnishings and antique finds tell tales of eras past. The soaring main living space, with exposed beams and a stone fireplace, creates a captivating heart to the home. Here, guests can gather beside the crackling fire, challenge each other to board games or curl up with a film on the Smart TV. The open-plan kitchen and dining area features a monastery-style table and high-grade appliances behind solid oak cabinetry, all chosen to respect the home’s historic soul.

Four pretty bedrooms continue the sense of thoughtful authenticity, with hand-built oak bed frames, walnut headboards and queen-size doubles (that can be split as twins) with high quality mattresses. Three contemporary bathrooms also await, two with gorgeous walk-in showers (one of which is en suite).

Beyond the manoir’s stone walls, a private world opens up. The 10.5-metre pool is set beside a games lawn with badminton and croquet, with shaded corners and stargazing spots scattered across the landscaped grounds and a red Japanese footbridge spanning the lower garden. Gather for family meals on the circular teak table with atmospheric lighting in the trees. Deer occasionally wander by at dusk, as if drawn in by the magic of the place.

Located in the rolling Charente countryside, just over half an hour from Angoulême, Manoir des Fables feels blissfully secluded yet well connected. Local essentials are found in nearby Blanzac-Porcheresse, while the vineyards of Cognac, the charm of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne and even the market towns of the Dordogne are all within easy reach for wonderful days out.

Whether soaking up golden afternoons on the terrace or exploring the treasures of southwest France, Manoir des Fables offers a picture-perfect setting where every element has been lovingly considered.
